THE BASICS
Name: Vivian Swan. She’s not fond of having nicknames.

CHARACTER DETAILS
House Request: I don’t particularly mind on this, I’ll leave this up to the Sorting Hat.

Year:  First year or second year - basically young.

Bloodline: Half-blood.

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms.

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination.

Biography:
Vivian Swan, a half-blood witch, as her mother was a witch, was born in Ireland and moved to a country-like area in England when she was nine. She was a rather anti-social child, as she thought people to be ‘disgusting, unworthy, and boring’ creatures; with a few exceptions here and there, although she gets embarrassed if asked if she makes exceptions and whatnot. Most days she spent inside with her mother’s cats, enjoying the time spent away from her Squib father and her intruding mother. When she was ten, she opened up a bit more and willingly talked to the other children around the town, but she never spent much time around them.
However, her parents were quite alright with this; they preferred her not to be around Muggles too much, afraid they might consequently rob her of her magic before she could be accepted to Hogwarts. All in all, she was quiet child and, though she denies whenever brought up, as is her nature, thirsts for recognition – to be remembered long after she’s gone. She won’t ever act on it, though, as she feels it doesn’t really matter.
Hogwarts was always something she looked forward to, thinking that it’d be the place where she could perfect her skills and get that recognition she oh-so wanted. She always wanted to meet people like her, people who have magical capabilities they can’t speak of around others. She disliked being so different, though never minded being a bit abnormal, it made it interesting.

Personality:
A bit snarky, Vivian was never good around people. Her replies are usually a bit sarcastic, or smart-alecky, on a bad day; she’s more mild-mannered on good days. She often falls into daydreams she rarely remembers, but it’s distracting and rarely ever does she do it during good circumstances.
Her likes include reading fantasies and wandering around areas in hope of finding something interesting – as she usually declares everything boring at first sight. She dislikes annoying people; which, in her definition, are people too nice, too loud, and too dependent. She fears not being remembered, though she admits this fear is rather stupid. Another fear of hers is spiders, she fears them a lot and she’s not afraid to admit it because she thinks all sane people ought to be afraid of such ‘dastardly monsters’.
She realizes she’s probably predictable but just shrugs it off, she doesn’t like showing what hurts her and what doesn’t as it shows others she can be weak. Vivian is a bad jokester, too; her jokes are usually lame, only make sense to her, or are just plain pathetically unfunny and ludicrous. She gets bored often and easily.

Appearance:
Vivian Swan has long ginger hair typically pulled up in pigtails, the tips of them touching her shoulder just barely. A few freckles spot across her nose, but there are less of them than most expect from someone of her appearance. She’s four-foot and eight inches, a bit on the shorter side. A tad bit stocky, she likes to wear her robes one size too big to hide this; her cousin was thinner at this age, she’d like to at least seem like that too. Her eyes, small and usually half-lidded in boredom, are a light aqua color. Her nose is a small, almost button nose. She lacks, though she doesn’t care, muscle.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
You come across one of these three posts on the site. Please reply to one only as your character would.
*** Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not James' or Astrid's.

Option I:

Blimey, the Great Hall was packed. It seemed like everywhere a guy looked there was some clown waving around a House banner or yelling about the game.

'Can you believe it?' 'No way!' 'This must be the biggest upset in Hogwarts Quidditch history...'

Stupid Quidditch.

James flopped into an empty seat at the end of the table, shoved an empty plate out of the way, and let his head sink onto his crossed arms, squishing his freckled nose down flat against the tabletop. He wasn't sure why he'd even bothered to come here, since he definitely wasn't hungry. He'd probably never eat again, in fact. He didn'tdeserve to eat. He hadn't stopped in the locker room to change out of his muddy, sweaty uniform after the game either, because he was pretty sure he probably didn't deserve to be clean too; and anyway he couldn't stand to see the looks on his team mates' faces after he blew their chance at winning one of the biggest games they had ever played.

Just one lousy shot. That's all it would have taken. If he could have just got that one stupid foul shot to go through that one stupid hoop, they could have won and he wouldn't have been the biggest blockhead in the entire school.

As if to prove the point, half the people at the next table suddenly broke into a loud victory chant. James pressed his face further into his arms to hide the bright red blotches he could feel creeping up his cheeks. That was it. He was just going to have to run away and move to Nova Scotia. He'd just cost the three-year-in-a-row Champions the Quidditch Cup! How do you ever live that one down for crying out loud? He was only a second year and he was going to spend the rest of his life as 'that dumb cry-baby kid who dropped the Quaffle!'

It felt like every set of eyes in the room was boring into him, and James couldn't stand it anymore. He jerked himself back up from the table and stomped right back out of the Hall the same way he had come in. As he stormed into the quieter hallway outside, he could hear footsteps somewhere behind him. James rounded on the sound and began to shout, his brown eyes shining with tears. "WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"

Option II:

“Oh, come now!"

Astrid Bixby’s voice carried down the corridor, the tall blonde girl not far behind. Her interviewee – or victim, depending on perspective – turned a corner and she frowned. They were always soelusive when she needed them. Sure, they would talk as if there was no tomorrow during class, but once she actually needed them to say something, they were nowhere to be found. Gryffindors.

Flustered, Astrid stopped in the middle of the corridor and stared, her parchment hanging limply from her hand. She was a good reporter, really, and she always did her best to make sure that everything she wrote was accurate. She glanced down to the quill, eyeing it with disdain. It wasn’t her fault if her quill misquoted. How was she supposed to know? It made for interesting articles, at least, and if she had misquoted the Head Boy last term as saying he had a love for stuffed animals, then that gave him personality. Astrid sighed.

A pout formed on her lips as she turned away, discouraged. The corridor was mercifully empty, though the doors to The Spellbound – the school newspaper – were ominously closed. Corbridge was a mercifully sweet editor, but Astrid was terrified of disappointing her all the same. She hadto come back with quotes.
Her eyes, blue, trailed her surroundings before choosing a new path, and she turned down a new corridor. A figure was ahead, and her eyes lit up, an impossibly rosy smile blossoming across her lips.

“Hey!” Astrid called, her voice light and singsong. She trotted to catch the person, her shoes clicking on the stone floor. “Wait up! It’s for the paper!” Her legs aided her admittedly poor running, and Astrid gasped as she came closer. “What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

Sample Roleplay Response:

Grumbling, Vivian reaches for a piece of toast. This morning has not gone well for the young girl; aside from falling out of her bed when her roommate ‘accidently’ hit her with a newly learnt spell and the mishap with her robes, she had run into Peeves on the way down and he harassed her, as was his nature of course.
“Bad day?” Vivian mutely shakes her head, not bothering to look as to who the feminine voice came from. Part of her feels slightly akin to Moaning Myrtle – in all honesty, even the thought of that makes her want to cheer up.

“It’s only morning, though,” the voice adds. Vivian lays down her uneaten piece of toast and, hesitantly, moves her blue eyes to find the person so keen on starting a conversation with her. A tall, brown haired girl, roughly sixteen if Vivian is any good at guessing, stands smiling at her. Her clothing indicates she’s in Ravenclaw.

“I suppose-“

“Of course, it’s Friday and you don’t have school tomorrow so you should feel a bit happier by that,” the girl rambles on. Vivian has the slight feeling this girl was a talker and, with a heavy sigh, she tries to tune out the girl’s voice.

“Anyway, I’m Rose Elenor!” the girl finally said, thrusting her hand out with the expectation of Vivian shaking it.

“Er- I’m Ella Black,” Vivian lied, smiling all the while; she’d rather not be tracked down by such an obnoxious girl. And she though Hufflepuffs were the ones with those traits! Well, she heard the Slytherins say and sometimes, though rarely, she heard such words uttered by Gryffindors.

Rose was about to say something else when Vivian rudely pardoned herself and stalked off, a bitter look on her face. Her day had sufficiently worsened by meeting a time waster.
