→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Rhett Blake

Birthday: January 3

Hometown: Belle Meade, TN

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Transfiguration

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): Seventh or sixth

Biography:

There's not much Rhett Blake wanted for.

Born the only child of a somewhat older, pureblood couple, he'd been showered with love and attention since the beginning. Play dates, toys, parents who were never mad, only disappointed with some of his youthful misadventures. Rhett made friends easily and teacher's adored him. Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt, save the odd skinned knee.

There was only one thing in life that had been denied to Carter Blake and his wife, Abigail. Try as much as they liked, it was their inability to fill their overly-prepared nursery that continued to taunt him, despite all the other rooms in their more than adequate home.

His days were spent consoling a depressed wife, taming his temper at work, and slowly coming to the realization that something might finally be out his grasp.

Forget that, he had money, damn it. It had not failed him yet.

"Close your eyes."

"Dear, please, you know how I hate these games. Just tell me what you've bought this time and we can both get on with our day." Abigail sighed, her eyes not closing, or really moving from the patch of yard she stared at through her perch near their bedroom window. She had planned on perhaps putting a garden there. Something that she could oversee, watching the flowers grow along with their small child as she nourished both of them, side by side. Maybe she'd have a strong fruit tree or some a patch of annuals planted on the day they were born, something special to mark the occasion.

The day had never come and she knew it was her fault. Carter never blamed her implicitly, but she could tell how the light in his eyes dimmed now whenever he looked at her. Her days now were spent as a ghost through these halls, living a shadow of the life she had once dreamed.

"Do it."

There was a strange, pleading tone to his voice. She relented, if only so he would leave her be. She turned, making a show of lifting her brows to show her now-closed eyes.

A weight was gently placed in her lap.

It
shifted.

Even the air in Massachusetts was different.

Rhett bounced on his toes behind his father as he waited for whoever it was they were supposed to meet. This was probably the first time in an August that Rhett could remember not sweating immediately after stepping outside. Maybe they had some kind of spells to condition the air.

A door opened, followed by a big, friendly, voice booming. "Carter! Is this him?"

Rhett was too busy wondering when he would get his wand.

"He wants to study abroad, now?"

It was an exacerbated, tired voice that replied to his wife's news. They'd just recieved their son's most recent letter from school. For once, it was actually him writing and not a teacher complaining about his lack of discipline or his grades. Still, they only had a year left after this one, and if Rhett could make it through these final exams, they had a whole summer to prepare him to make the right connections for a internship right out of school.

No matter how dismal his grades were.

"It sounds like his heart is really set on this." Abigail's voice was persuasive. It always was when she pleaded a case for him.

"Since when? Last month didn't he want to go to that Quodpot training program?! What's it going to be next week, one of those mechanical monstrosities like some of those No-Maj's like to get around in?"

Abigail's hand traced Carter's shoulders as she moved from her sitting room chair to stand behind his. Her fingers dug, gently, into his tired shoulders as she said those magical words.

"Think how well it will look for him, after graduation. No one will care about his grades when they find out he's so
well-traveled.

Carter's own fingers pressed into his eyes, not so gently.

"I guess I can contact the Headmaster. I'm sure they could use a donation."

Rhett Blake was going to Hogwarts.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

The dungeons. Did they really need a dungeons at a school?

Rhett had laughed when he'd heard they existed, sure it was a prank on the new guy. But here he was, sure as rain, in those non-existent dungeons. And he was lost.

It did not bode well for him if he could not navigate his way out of a few badly lit hallways. He wouldn't go so far to call them dank, but he did think these Brits were going out of their way to make this part of the castle live up to its name. He'd set out only to sate his curiousity, but now he was cursing the architect responsible for this mess. Seriously, if he'd wanted a leisurely stroll with no destination in mind, he'd have tried out that hedge maze outside.

How was he going to make it to class?

Well, at least now he had an excuse.

After what he was sure was his fourth time around this one corner, he heard a voice.

"H-h-hello?"

It was so quiet, he'd almost missed it. He'd been alone this whole time. Or so he thought.

Was this one of the ghosts he'd heard about?! Did they all speak in such non-threatening whispers?

"HelloooOOOO..." He answered back, mimicing as best he could. One, he didn't want to scare it off. Two, more importantly, he did not want to be rude.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

That's when he saw her. Damn, he felt like a right fool. The girl down the hall couldn't be more than twelve, and clearly she was having a much rougher time down here than he'd been. At the very least, he wouldn't be alone anymore. But first....

"I'm right heeEEEeeeerRRReee...." He whispered again, coming up behind her, before he bust out laughing.

"Ah, sorry," He grinned, his voice returning to its normal pitch and cadence, hoping she wouldn't be too mad at him. They still had to make it out from here, after all.

"I'm a terrible liar, anyways. Who's Emma? Ya'll wanna get outta here?"
