Blood is everything

Alec grew up with this notion in mind from the day he was born. His family's motto being "Purity Above All" gave a certain foreboding as well as a promise. He grew up in the main household in Connacht, Ireland. Though one could easily travel between their house and their uncle's house. So in the end it was almost as if the two houses were one.

The MacTire family is a close-knit crew. They work together, protect each other, most of all they have each other's backs. Trust your back with no one but blood. So for Alec to have a twin of his blood, well, he found someone to entrust his back to. Zander has always had Alec's back and Alec his since the day they were born, and Alec intends it to stay that way.

The MacTire family is old blood, very old blood. But recently they have discovered other means to attain prestige and fortune in this new age, and have done so through the use of the Irish mob. They have their muggle side of operations, as well as their wizarding side. The list of things they do is quite long, though good luck trying to link it back to them.

This is the environment Alec grew up in, and grew into. Alec is not a very nice person. Which is to say he can be, and is, quite mean-spirited. He's rude, disrespectful, does not get along with anyone of less than pureblood heritage and he likes to pull devilishly designed pranks. In short he's a snake in the grass. Yet even though I say that, to his friends and family he is the wind beneath their wings and will continue to hold them up unless they betray him. Beware betrayers for your judgment and verdict shall not be pleasant.

Alec had always known that he was a wizard. Why he was born into a family of purebloods, of course he was a wizard. He had been raised as a wizard among his wizarding family. He had been taught spells instead of fairy tales. He was taught to fight before he could run. To some this may have been torture, but to Alec it was exhilarating. Not only was it exhilarating but it was most definitely necessary considering that family reunions, especially holidays, got a little rambunctious and you would be hard-pressed to go to one and not witness a brawl or three. Such were the ways of the MacTires.

When Alec got his letter there was no party, it was merely to be expected especially since his letter of acceptance also came with Zander's. Some cousins issued quiet congratulations, but other than that nothing. Though Alec wasn't upset and neither was Zander, oh no. It was time for them to be released upon Hogwarts. The wolves were out.

House Request: Slytherin

Personality: Alec is a trickster, a prankster as well as a fighter. He is a purist, despising and looking down upon all those with less than pureblood status. He even looks down upon some of those with pureblood rank. To his friends he is dependable, encouraging, funny and a clown. To his enemies he is a nuisance, a bother, and a threat.

Appearance: Alec is 5'4" which is rather tall for a boy of his age. He has black hair and light eyes. His gaze is cold, harsh and distant, though when provoked his eyes flash an icy blue with pure malice. He has a rather handsome face but his personality often deters the approach of those who think so. Coming from a rich pureblood family he can often be found wearing designer clothing, but it doesn't stay clean for long, not when Alec has places to explore and people to prank.

Option I:

Blimey, the Great Hall was packed. It seemed like everywhere a guy looked there was some clown waving around a House banner or yelling about the game.

'Can you believe it?' 'No way!' 'This must be the biggest upset in Hogwarts Quidditch history...'

Stupid Quidditch.

James flopped into an empty seat at the end of the table, shoved an empty plate out of the way, and let his head sink onto his crossed arms, squishing his freckled nose down flat against the tabletop. He wasn't sure why he'd even bothered to come here, since he definitely wasn't hungry. He'd probably never eat again, in fact. He didn't deserve to eat. He hadn't stopped in the locker room to change out of his muddy, sweaty uniform after the game either, because he was pretty sure he probably didn't deserve to be clean too; and anyway he couldn't stand to see the looks on his team mates' faces after he blew their chance at winning one of the biggest games they had ever played.

Just one lousy shot. That's all it would have taken. If he could have just got that one stupid foul shot to go through that one stupid hoop, they could have won and he wouldn't have been the biggest blockhead in the entire school.

As if to prove the point, half the people at the next table suddenly broke into a loud victory chant. James pressed his face further into his arms to hide the bright red blotches he could feel creeping up his cheeks. That was it. He was just going to have to run away and move to Nova Scotia. He'd just cost the three-year-in-a-row Champions the Quidditch Cup! How do you ever live that one down for crying out loud? He was only a second year and he was going to spend the rest of his life as 'that dumb cry-baby kid who dropped the Quaffle!'

It felt like every set of eyes in the room was boring into him, and James couldn't stand it anymore. He jerked himself back up from the table and stomped right back out of the Hall the same way he had come in. As he stormed into the quieter hallway outside, he could hear footsteps somewhere behind him. James rounded on the sound and began to shout, his brown eyes shining with tears. "WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"

To be honest Alec wasn't having the best of days. He spent the morning trying to hunt down Zander but to know avail. That's what happens when your twin decides he's going to go wrestle a Leprechaun. Didn't he know that they weren't in Ireland anymore? Ah, Ireland. Alec suddenly felt a pang of homesickness, before his thoughts turned back to his missing twin.

Zander is gunna get it when I find 'im he thought to himself as he stormed down the hallway. The reason why Alec was so upset is simple. Zander had taken the galleons that Alec had in his room and had left them in a bread-crumb trail down the hallways in order to lure his Leprechaun. This would have worked in Ireland but they were not in Ireland. Perhaps Zander was just messing with him. Gah! Yup, that was it for sure.

The two brothers loved each other, but they loved messing with each other just as much. However, if anyone else tried to mess with one of the brothers they would be in for a whuppin'.  Ah well, nothing to do but pick up all these coins. Finally Alec got to the end of the trail and bent to pick up the last coin. "Victory! Time to go reward myself with some food!" He turned and rushed off in the way of the great hall. If I catch Zander I'm going to give him a piece of my mind. he thought to himself as he made his way there.

"Oh look! Butter-tarts! Could this day get any better?!" Alec scooped up a handful...or two...and possibly two pocket-fulls of butter tarts and left the great hall all the while stuffing his face. Mmmm, so good. He was already starting to get full and he still had two more butter tarts... he saw a boy up ahead. That boy looks like he's been pranked badly, I wonder who got him. . He walked a little faster to try to pass the boy. Maybe if he'd be able to tell who pranked him from the front.

The boy rounded on the sound and began to shout, his brown eyes shining with tears. "WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"

The sudden theatrics had taken Alec completely unaware. He stopped mid-step, his foot hovering above the ground. His eyes widened and the butter tart that he was in the process of eating with no hands, fell from his mouth.  He stared at the boy for a good two seconds. He didn't enjoy being yelled at. He didn't care what happened to the other boy, he was not about to be talked to like that by anyone.

"Listen here! Do you know who I am? Do You?" The more he spoke the thicker his Irish accent became. He bent down and picked up the butter tart. He looked down at it and glared. "You butter tart...." As he said it he tossed it lightly at the boy. "I won't 'ave it wasted, eat up champ." He poured as much emphasis into the last word as he could.

Biography: (100 words minimum.)
Alec was born into a rather..different kind of pureblood family. Yes they had wealth, and yes they had prestige, but they had gained a lot of it more recently through less than legal means. The MacTire family was after all the family which controlled the Irish mob from the shadows.

Alec wasn't an only child, in fact he had five other siblings. One of his siblings, Zander, was his twin. Alec and his siblings were raised purist. Purity above all, is the saying they heard most often. Being raised in a crime family ends up influencing the mind and from a rather young age Alec's dream job was to become the family's muscle along with his twin brother. After all he and Zander idolized the family muscle. Alec idolized Uncle Liam who was the current muscle of the MacTire family and Zander idolized the Razi family's muscle Uncle Barnaby.

Alec can be rather a piece of work. He likes to push others around and pull pranks and over the years those pranks have become steadily more severe, perhaps he will soon turn to violence without using the cover of a joke. However, with his friends he is harmless, becoming more like a clown than anything else. He considers each friend to be a part of his family and as such he is deeply loyal to them, though he may play a joke or two on them or even tease them a bit, but in these instances it truly is in the name of fun.

In the end only time shall tell exactly what kind of person Alec will become. Will he end up becoming the muscle of the family, despising those with a lesser blood status and harming others without guilt? Or will someone be able to force their way into his heart and make him realize that he doesn't want to live as a purist any longer? But for now, a purist is who and what he is.

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Alec had spent his morning sneaking around and causing all kinds of disturbances. Between throwing grapes at unsuspecting people, and putting marbles on the paths so people would slip and fall he was rather busy. He had just finished loading a slingshot with an icecubes (when they melt there is no evidence of an attack) to shoot at some quiddich playing wannabes when he was startled by a shout from behind

"Merlin's beard!" He exclaimed, whipping around with his slingshot cocked to get revenge on the ambusher, but when he did so he was greeted by some snot-nosed kid.

"What do you think you're doin' sneakin' up on someone when tey're in the middle of sometin' important?" His anger had caused him to speak in his thick Irish accent without thinking. He let out a sigh and took the time to really look at the girl. She was young, that much was evident by her voice, but now that he was looking at her she looked about the same age as his little cousin Bran. Ugh, this is the last thing I need.

"And before you answer that question, the answer is no...unless you want to help me with some of my ... jokes." Just saying the word 'jokes' nearly made him laugh, since usually he was the only one who found them funny, other than his twin, but Zander was busy at the moment. But thinking about it more he realized that this little girl could really help take his pranks to the next level.

The MacTire family is one of the oldest Irish pureblood families, dating back millennia. MacTire meaning 'Son of the Land'. The MacTire family does not like to fraternize with Muggles. As such they isolated themselves in the Connacht province, putting up wards and spells to keep muggles from encroaching on their lands. Their manors are constantly changing positions within the province and as such require a customized port-key or a certain spell in order to find. Though once in one of the manors the floo system can be used to travel between the two, making family drop-ins much easier.

Although they do not like to fraternize with muggles, they occasionally pushed their objectives while using the muggles in the form of the Irish mob. Yes, the MacTire family, is a crime syndicate family which controls the Irish mob from the shadows. The only time that they see fit to step out of the shadows is for revenge, or to keep their footmen in line. This helped them acquire more status, prestige, and money without forcing them to do too much work (other than the occasional bit of...lesson teaching). Lessons taught by the MacTires were usually committed to body and mind.

The family deals in all sorts of things: racketeering, horse-race fixing, illegal gambling, drug trafficking, extortion, weapons trafficking, loan-sharking, and corruption. As for weapons they deal in both magical and muggle. Currently they are pushing their way into the glow market, since it seems there is money to be made in that sector. The only thing is that the family is usually so far back from the crime that it cannot be linked to them. Although, sometimes things have to get personal.

Yet for all of its dark escapades the MacTire family is a very close-knit bunch. They help each other in times of trouble, lean on each other for support and you'd be hard-pressed to catch one further than five miles from another. The MacTires live with a pack mentality where it's all for one and one for all. Betraying your own family is out of the question and heaven forbid that is you. For those who betray blood, bleed. This doesn't go to say that they don't fight. In fact, a family gathering without at least one broken bone is considered a dull affair.

When it comes to marriage the family decrees that purebloods marry purebloods lest the bloodline be tainted. As such the MacTire family is related to quite a few other pureblood families such as the Razi family. Some have married half bloods or even muggles over the years...but we won't speak of them.
