Suggestions & Questions / Default Text Size/Color?
« on: 06/12/2017 at 00:57 »
Hi! I'm fairly new here and I was just wondering if there's a way to set a default font size or text color so I don't have to code it in if I want it to be a certain way every time. Sorry to bug you! :)

Application for Hogwarts School

Name: Brock Sanders

Birthday: October 22nd

Hometown: Massachusetts, USA

Bloodline: Halfblood-ish

Magical Strength: Transfiguration

Magical Weakness: Divination

Year: One, Two

Born to a happily married couple in America, Brock grew up as a fairly pampered child. Fairly pampered, that is, until his loving parents realized the error of their ways and sent him off to school all the way across the Atlantic Ocean. As an eleven-year-old boy who had never been away from his parents, Brock was terrified. He missed his parents more than anything, and he even missed his two obnoxious little sisters, Georgia (age 7) and June (age 4). Though nothing notable had happened to Brock at that point, he hoped to come across something great in his adventures at Hogwarts. Trying to push the encroaching fear from his young mind, he looked forward to the future with a bright hope.

Faith Bedford Sanders was raised as the only daughter of a staunch Baptist preacher in Alabama. Her father, a Muggle, was entirely unaware that his British wife was a witch until just after Faith was born. As was to be expected, he was shocked by the discovery and immediately applied for a divorce. He insisted on keeping his baby daughter safe from the "evil influences" of a witch and took on sole custody of the girl. He was in for a nasty shock when Faith turned eleven and received a Hogwarts letter, however, and was quick to disown her. Feeling entirely alone and lost, Faith reached out to an aunt who took her in and cared for her when Hogwarts wasn't in session. Several years later in her seventh year at Hogwarts, Faith met and fell in love with a young Ilvermorny teacher who was visiting for an event. The two were married shortly after her graduation and she moved with him to his home and job in Massachusetts.

Tyler Sanders was born as a fifth-generation American wizard in Boston, Massachusetts.  His father, a pureblood wizard from Florida, was more than a little relieved to finally have a son after having six daughters.  His mother, a halfblood witch who wore herself thin everyday trying to care for her small army of a family, was a little more trepidatious.  When Tyler turned eleven, she suggested that he be sent off to Hogwarts instead of going to the nearby Ilvermorny to lessen the stress on the family budget.  This suggestion was happily accepted and Tyler made the journey across the ocean to attend Hogwarts.  He survived his seven years there without too much difficulty and returned home to Massachusetts, where he applied for a position with Ilvermorny as a Herbology teacher.  After being awarded the position, he traveled back to Hogwarts with an advanced class to spend some time looking over the European agriculture.  While there, he met his future wife, Faith Bedford.

House Request: N/A

Personality: Brock is excellent at analyzing and solving problems through the use of sheer logic. Logic doesn't fix everything, however, so he has an extraordinarily hard time being emotionally supportive or even emotionally attached. Of course, his emotional hardships are augmented by his tendency to argue his stand on things and can make him come across as being mean or rude. Despite this, he has never been known to turn down a opportunity to spend time with a beautiful woman.

Appearance: Brock generally has a laid back appearance with his customary t-shirt and rather untidy dark brown hair.  He tends to smile a lot and has been told that his grin and chocolate-colored eyes can melt the heart of almost any young lady within a mile radius.  Due to his summer job as a construction worker, he has packed on thick layers of muscle and his skin has become rather tan.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

"You've got to be kidding me," Brock whispered grumpily as he peered across the cluttered desk of the Potions professor. "I don't see my spell-checking quill anywhere in this mess!" He strained on his tiptoes to see over the top of the mounded piles of ungraded homework assignments, struggling to catch sight of his confiscated object.

The day had started out just the same as any other. Brock woke up rather late and had hurriedly thrown his supplies into his school bag. After nearly missing breakfast, he dashed off to his first class, barely making into the room as the bell tolled loudly. The Potions professor smirked at Brock's harried figure sliding into the room before plunging right into the lesson.

"We're taking our midterm test today, students," the professor announced in his high, nasally voice. "This test will consist of a long essay and a series of short answer questions. As always, the use of spell-checking quills or other magical devices is strictly prohibited. Anyone caught with such an object will have it confiscated immediately. If there are no questions, you may begin your tests."

Anxious to begin (and finish!) his test, Brock dug rapidly through the contents of his bag. His hand closed around a long, skinny object and he drew it out in excitement. His exuberance deflated only a brief second later, however, as his eyes took in the sight of the quill. It was no ordinary quill, that was for sure. In fact, it was one of the prohibited items for the test. Brock's handsome lips pressed into an angry glare as he pawed through the bag again and again. But there was no other quill to be found.

Brock snorted at his own stupidity and ill-preparation. Without another choice, he picked up the disallowed quill and began to write his essay. He had only jotted down a sliver of a tiny sentence when a dark shadow fell across his page. Startled, he paused in his work to pay attention to the intimidating professor.

"Mr. Sanders, what a lovely quill you have there." After a brief pause, the impossibly high-pitched voice continued,"I suppose you wouldn't be too keen on letting me take a quick gander at it?"

The intensity of the nasally voice in such a limited proximity to Brock's exposed ear sent a crashing wave of fear through his stomach. His hands trembled like autumn leaves trapped in a stiff breeze and his clouded mind dove into panic mode. With a petrified expression of terror pasted across his usually-flawless visage, he watched the professor pluck the quill from his grasp.

With an angry smirk, the professor stalked back to his desk, Brock's quill still clutched in his meaty grasp.

And that was how Brock came to be in the Potions classroom at the dead of night. He just wanted his quill back, and this was the only time he would be able to search for it without interruptions from other students or teachers. Unfortunately, though, his quill wasn't there.

Groaning in disappointment, Brock turned to leave the room and get back to the warmth of his common room. As he did, the side of his knee slammed into the side of the oak desk. In the silence of the dark room, the sound seemed to be overly loud and impossible to miss. He stopped in his tracks, listening intently for any sign that somebody had heard him.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

Brock bit back a scream as a soft voice pierced through the veil of pensive quietness that was draped over the slumbering school. Somebody HAD heard him! He cursed under his breath, praying that he wouldn't be caught.

And then an insane idea hit him over the head. A stupidly brilliant idea, really.

Forcing his mid-range voice into a squeaky falsetto, he hollered, "Yes, little dear, Emma Birch is ALWAYS here. You better run before my ghostly appetite comes back, because my favorite food is young girl!"

Hoping that his ruse would play out exactly as he wanted it to, Brock waited for some sort of response from the child.
