Character name: Dove Alexandria Märchen

Previous and/or Current Character(s) if applicable: Calla and company

Character age: 15 May 1928 (20)

Character education: Hufflepuff ‘46

Strength and weaknesses (details please):

Many of Dove’s qualities are both her strengths and her weaknesses.

She is very selfless; willing to help out almost anyone if they need it. She has always considered it a strength. Helping others makes her happy and she always feels good about herself when she spends time in service to others. There has been more than one occasion, however, where being so generous has led to heartbreak for Dove, or being taken advantage of.

Dove also has a stubborn streak. It usually shows itself when she sees someone being mistreated or when someone expresses a negative opinion about something she believes in strongly. Sometimes Dove can be too stubborn and it can lead to estrangements from those she loves.

Dove considers her greatest strength to be her persistence. There is hardly anything that will stop her when she decides she wants something or wants to do something. Part of her persistence has to do with her stubbornness because if someone tells her she can’t have or do something, she’ll work even harder to prove them wrong.

Her biggest weakness is perhaps her dislike of change. Dove can be easygoing in many situations, but she prefers to have a set daily routine. She likes the comfort of the familiar and having order in her everyday life. The biggest problem with being so set in how she likes things is that some opportunities pass her by before she can decide if the change is worth disrupting her contentment with her current routine.

Physical description:

Honey brown hair and pale green eyes are paired with the soft, delicate features of Dove’s face. She can almost always be found smiling. She is of average height but has long legs that sometimes make her prone to clumsiness. Dove exudes a kindness that often draws people to her, whether with good intentions or bad, she can’t always tell right away.

Personality (nice, rude, funny etc. Paragraph please.):

Dove portrays all the typical traits of a Hufflepuff. She is extremely loyal and will do anything for those she cares about. She has always been dedicated and hard-working, diligently focusing on her goals and doing everything in her power to reach them. Dove isn’t all work and no play, however. She has a fun-loving side and can sometimes be adventurous; within reason. She isn’t the type to travel spur-of-the-moment, but she does enjoy exploring new places as long as trips are mostly planned out and orderly.

Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?:

As many of the students who attend Hogwarts feel, Dove felt like the school was a second home for her. Most of life’s biggest moments happened within the walls of Hogwarts and Dove is very sentimental about the school. When she decided it was her dream to help future students learn about magic, when she decided she wanted to be a professor, there was no other place to do so than Hogwarts.

Biography (500 words minimum. There is never such a thing as too much.):

Perhaps it was because she was born in the Spring, or maybe it was just part of her nature, but Dove loved the renewal of life that Spring brought. From the time she could walk her parents would find her outside in their garden and the surrounding area, playing with any creature or flora she could get her tiny, toddler hands on. And she was always gentle with everything. Even as a toddler who can’t always control their muscle movements, Dove never injured anything she came across. In fact, she often found hurt animals or plants that needed care and brought them back to health.

It was only natural, therefore, that Dove excelled in Care of Magical Creatures and Herbology when she reached Hogwarts. Charms was also one of her specialties because she felt it was the best subject that would allow her to help more people, animals, and plants.

Being the best at the subjects she cared most about was important to Dove, though she never quite reached the top. She studied hard and went above and beyond what was required of her, but when it came down to it, she was too selfless and she would often help others to do even better than she would do. She was always willing to help others strive to do their best, even if it meant she didn’t get to be the best.

When she wasn’t at school, Dove spent the majority of her time with her two horses she managed to convince her parents to get her for her sixth and seventh birthdays. Though not a magical creature, horses had always been Dove’s favorite animal and when she got that first horse, she was ecstatic. Her first horse was a chestnut mare she named Diamond for the diamond-shaped white patch on the horse’s forehead. When her birthday rolled around again the next year and the farm where she had gotten Diamond told her parents that one of their horses had just given birth to a jet black colt, Dove had to have him. For him, Dove chose the name Cypress because it meant “strong” and she could tell right away he would be a force to be reckoned with.

Despite being part of such a large family and having so many cousins around her own age, Diamond and Cypress were Dove’s best friends when she was at home. All summer long she would simply spend her days galloping around and through the forest near her home. It made for the perfect opportunity to not only spend time with her horses but also to explore all the different lifeforms in the area.

Her social life didn’t suffer that much because she enjoyed spending so much time with animals or studying every plant she could get her hands on. Dove had friends, a few very close ones and a slightly wider circle of friends she cared about but that hadn’t quite been a part of her life long enough to be part of her tight-knit inner circle. Dove loved having friends but really enjoyed having just a few that she could really depend on. She had known them for most of her life and all those years was very important to someone as loyal as she was.

As a hopeless romantic, Dove had always been in love with the idea of being in love, though it wasn’t something that had really happened for her yet. She had a casual boyfriend or two during her years at Hogwarts, but most teenage boys were not interested in commitment and all Dove wanted was to find the one person that she could be with for the rest of her life. She might not have found her true love yet, however the memories would always be special to her. She would never forget having her first kiss in her fourth year beneath the large tree next to the lake just as it started to rain. There could hardly be a more romantic way for a first kiss to occur.

When it came time to graduate Hogwarts and decide what she wanted to do with her life, Dove was already knew she wanted to one day return to Hogwarts and enrich the lives and minds of future Hogwarts students. She didn’t, however, apply for a position directly after graduation. Dove took the traditional year off to travel the world. At the end of that year, though, Dove decided to extend her travels and dedicate time to researching and exploring different animals and plants from different countries. By taking a couple of extra years off, Dove was more prepared to begin her career as a professor at Hogwarts and it was something she felt extremely lucky to have the opportunity to prove she deserved.

It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with various odds and ends, with a place of honor for the Sorting Hat, and the walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses.

In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order, for the current occupant had always despised a messy desk. It was the sign of a messy mind, and she had always favored neatness.

A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.

Along with order, Anneka valued punctuality. She was a very busy woman these days. Even during the summer, she had a number of matters to attend to. Interviewing and hiring staff was only of those matters. The newest potential member of her staff wasn't making a good impression.

She paced the room, black heels clicking against the stone floor. When the door finally opened, Anneka turned, her expression reminiscent of a Russian winter. "You are late."

Explain yourself was what her face said.

Roleplay Response:

Dove was late and the worst part was that she had known she would be for the last few hours.

Perhaps she had been overconfident, thinking that she knew Hogwarts and was comfortable there so she didn’t need much time to prepare for the interview with Ivanova. Dove knew the time it would take her to travel to Hogsmeade, up to the castle and then to the Headmistress’s office. She knew how long it would take her to get ready beforehand. Everything had been planned out as best as she could.

Everything, however, except for the fact that she had decided to take Diamond for a short ride after breakfast that morning. Dove could not have predicted that a jaunt with her beloved horse, on a route that they had travelled together dozens of times, would result in her being late for what was probably the biggest opportunity of her life.

It happened when they had just turned back around to return home, a rabbit had rushed out from some brush nearby and spooked Diamond enough that she took off sprinting. The mare went off trail and for the next fifteen minutes no command Dove gave could stop her and calm her down. They had gone miles off course and it took an hour and half before they finally made it back home.

No matter how late she might be, Dove could not rush her horse and force her to go faster than she wanted when she had just been so frightened.

After getting as ready as she could in the shortest amount of time possible, Dove travelled to Hogsmeade and practically sprinted all the way up to the Headmistress’s office.

The door was flung wide open when she pushed her way in, her breath huffing out in one loud exhale and she attempted to straighten her clothing before looking up at Professor Ivanova.

Dove had never been exactly afraid of the Russian woman but she definitely made for a fierce presence. Especially when she was in her own office and looking quite annoyed that a professor candidate had the audacity to arrive late to an interview.

Dove gulped as the Headmistress said, ”You are late.”

Stepping forward and trying to regain some sort of composure, Dove attempted to explain herself. “I know and I’m very sorry. I went riding with my horse this morning and she got spooked. Before I knew it we were so deep into the forest it took an hour just to get back out again and I just couldn’t bring myself to rush the poor thing.”

With a look of apology Dove hoped her explanation would somewhat alleviate the poor first impression she had made. Hopefully her dedication to her horse and not wanting to push her when she had been slightly traumatized would show to the Headmistress that she was committed to the things she was passionate about, even if that might mean she had to put other important things on hold for a short period.
