→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Ezra Abberton

Birthday: April 24, 1946

Hometown: London

Bloodline:
Half-blood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two): First or Second

Biography:
Ezra never knew her real parents and grew up in a magical orphanage for the first few years of her life. She was a rather bright and bubbly girl, for the most part, though lonely at times and jealous of those with families. Many of the kids in the orphanage looked up to her as she was the kind of person who took charge and helped take care of them.

At the age of three, Ezra’s magic let itself become known. A bag of groceries was about to fall from the kitchen counter atop one of the smaller babies, but Ezra stopped it in midair long enough for an adult to sweep the baby up.

When Ezra was seven years old she was adopted by the witch Rowena Abberton and brought to a small London apartment where she met Rowena’s girlfriend and Ezra’s second (unofficial) mother, Helena Sanders.

It didn’t take long for Ezra to warm up to them as she had always wanted a family, and she quickly came to regard them both as her mothers. She was very happy in her new home, small and cramped as it was, and though her family struggled financially, Rowena and Helena made sure she had what she needed.

Rowena worked a lot in order to support them and was very often away. Helena worked from home as an independent seamstress in order to be with and take care of Ezra. After weeks of relentless pestering, Helena began teaching Ezra to sew and later cook. Ezra was simply delighted at being able to help around the house.

Helena and Rowena loved Ezra dearly, and though they were her mothers in practice, they stressed that she could not talk about them as such in public. Few would be accepting of their family and so they taught Ezra to not discuss her family with others if she could avoid it, and if she had to, to lie about it.

And so the years passed until finally, Ezra got the Hogwarts acceptance letter she had dreamed about for so long.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Gryffindor or Hufflepuff

Personality:
Ezra is a reliable, practical, strong-willed, loyal, ambitious and sensual young girl. She is generous and more than willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family and the needy, even if it means she has to endure hardship or loss. She’s loyal and will stand by those close to her no matter what and do whatever she can to ensure their happiness and health. She’s also quite down-to-earth, polite and pleasant, and is mostly rather even-tempered. She loves to feel helpful and useful; it makes her happy.

Dependable to a fault, she won’t ever disappoint, not if she has anything to say about it. She’s a hard-working person, at least when she’s sufficiently motivated, and has an almost endless level of patience. She believes in taking her time and doing things right rather than being the first to get a job done. Quality is something she values highly.

Ezra moves at her own pace, which is often slower than most others due to her love and deeply-held desire to ponder and consider her and others every move. She can deliberate something for ages, but once decided she’s totally clear on, and committed to, where she stands and what she’s doing, and practically nothing can sway her.

To say she’s stubborn and independent would be a vast understatement. Ezra will pursue the goals she has set for herself with endless reserves of tenacity, patience, and resilience, attacking the challenge/task like the tide upon the shore. This she will often do on her own. She wants to be strong and self-sufficient so that she won’t have to rely on and burden others.

For all her qualities, she has her flaws and often takes her good traits a little too far. Despite her generally respectful and easy-going demeanor, her stubbornness often makes her unbelievably stubborn and inflexible in her approach. If logical arguments don’t suit her, she will just refuse to listen or even consider them. She hates not being right or being on top of things.

She’s goal-oriented and values aesthetics. Being a very sensual and physical girl, she cares much for the pleasures of life and seeks enjoyment and fulfillment in all that she does. She’s all about gratification, physical, mental or otherwise. She loves to have a good time and is not above joking, sarcastic statements and playful teasing, which can lead her into trouble. Luxuries big or small are highly valued, but in her pursuit of it, Ezra can become very materialistic/greedy and frugal, not to mention self-indulgent to the point where she becomes rude and inattentive to people’s emotions. She has a hard time finding the off button to her sensual cravings.

If Ezra isn’t motivated to do something, she’s positively lazy. She doesn’t like being ordered to do something she doesn’t want to do (or ordered around really) and she won’t move a muscle unless she decides to.

Ezra also tends to zone out a lot, or just chilling about doing nothing. Though hard-working, Ezra loves to do nothing, to be vacant and empty with little thought. It’s her way of relaxing. She zones out into her own thoughts a lot or just zones out, period. Talking to her or making her do something when she’s like that is impossible. Her pace is not one you can stress or speed up.

The biggest flaw Ezra has is her possessiveness which ties back to her materialistic tendencies. Ezra often becomes jealous and resentful of others that have things she wants which bring out her passive-aggressiveness and more cold demeanor. She can also be very judgemental of others, detrimentally so at times.

Ezra doesn’t like sudden changes, complications, criticism or the chase of guilt people are often prone to (she doesn’t like assigning blame or feeling guilty/shameful, justified or not), and she struggles to let go of or deal with her emotions. She hates insecurity, whether that be in herself or others, and also doesn’t like synthetic things or fabrics, or anything fake really.

Ezra likes writing, gardening, cooking, music, romance (she’s a hopeless romantic), high-quality clothes, chilling, using/working with her hands, eating food  (touch and taste are vital senses to her; she’s a bit of a glutton) and money. Her ambition is to get a financially good job to support her family as well as her dream of a luxurious lifestyle.

Appearance:
Ezra is of Afro-European ancestry. Her curly hair is dark brown or black depending on the light, and she has dark skin and brown eyes. Typically, her hair is in a natural afro, though she may style it a bit. She stands tall at 4’ft 10’’inches and is of average weight for her age and height.

She loves to dress in loose or fluffy clothes that are colorful and made of high-quality fabrics. Dresses, skirts or big blouses and shirts, she isn’t really too picky so long as the clothes don’t stick too tightly to her and she can fall asleep in them comfortably. Her favorite article of clothing is her dressing gown.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice, albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Petals in shades of white, blue, red, yellow, pink and purple. Rows upon rows of flowers, big and small, amid hedges and bushes plainly green or crowned with other colors. Peachleaf Bellflowers. Hardy Geraniums. Cottage Pinks. Delphiniums. Hollyhock. Lady’s Mantle. Munstead Lavenders. And so many, many more.

Wonder what their names are?

The flowers in the garden were beautifully picked and arranged, and very well cared for. They were rainbow freckles adorning the green, shimmering and popping. Their fragrance was sweet, almost cloying in their intensity.

I can taste them.

Ezra sighed softly in happy contentment, neck craned, eyes closed to the sky and the dots of cotton clouds gliding lazily in the blue sea. A mild breeze ruffled the curls of her afro and her wrinkled black robes, and the soft sound of rustling leaves and flowers broke the stillness that had settled over the gardens.

Delightful.

It was a quiet place even when classes were in recess. Or so it seemed to Ezra. It always was when she was there. Not that she spent much time planted on the grass, elbows propped behind her, but she felt secure in her belief that the gardens weren’t a place many students went to or stayed in for any significant length of time. Pass through it maybe, but spend their free time there? No. Most definitely not.

But Ezra did, from time to time. Just to get a bit of air and a change of pace from always resting in her house’s common room or in the dormitories. Those places often became noisy and it was hard to completely zone out sometimes. Ezra simply needed some peace and quiet, and time to be alone with her thoughts or just herself if her thoughts didn’t deign to join her.

That was not to be, though.

A voice close by shattered the quiet peace and Ezra’s eyes opened at the sound of it.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?" It was a boy’s voice. Ezra’s head tilted slightly to the side as she listened to the boy stomp about in the flowerbeds. He must’ve lost his pet rat, she thought and smiled in mild amusement.

Oh well, she’d gotten twenty minutes of peace. She would make do.

Ezra stood up, brushed grass off her robe and absent-mindedly tried to smoothe out the wrinkles some. A quick glance around the gardens and she spotted the boy with his head buried in some bright red flowers. Roses? Or maybe peonies? She had to suppress a giggle at the sight of him.

You won’t ever find your rat, stomping about like that.

She was just about to speak up when the boy let out the mother of all sneezes. It even disturbed the dirt! She let out an amused snort and hid her smile with her hand.

Composing herself, she opened her mouth to speak up, but the words died on her lips when the boy proceeded to wipe his nose with his sleeve in a somewhat unsightly fashion. Now Ezra didn’t mind dirt or what have you, but she thought the boy could be a bit more discreet about wiping his nose. Rowena said it was impolite to do so in the company of others as it didn’t give a particularly good impression.

As the boy was wiping his nose, he turned slightly and evidently, he noticed her, because before she knew it he was staring at her and haughtily said "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

It sounded odd through his plugged nose and she let out a breathy exhale through her nose. She could feel laughter bubbling up in her stomach, but she pushed it down. Instead, she quirked a brow at him and fixed him with an unimpressed but amused expression.

“I wasn’t staring and I’m obviously not the one in need of help. Your rat isn’t going to come to you if you’re loudly stomping around the place, disturbing the peace. Especially if it ran away from you in the first place.” She smiled, not impolitely, and pulled out a handkerchief from one of her robe’s many pockets. “Here. Don’t want to dirty your robe more than necessary.”
