Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Kira van der Beeck

Birthday: May 2

Hometown: Darley Dale

Bloodline:
Unknown

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Transfiguration

Year (pick two): 4th, 5th

Biography:
"Kira!"

It was the second time her mum had called. A small, foolish hope that her mum would give up had prompted her to stay in bed; an experienced guess that she wouldn't made her slip her feet into her worn leather boots softly and crawl out the window. The wood creaked beneath her as she took the final step, waking her big brother, but Kira didn't look back.

When her mum reached the final stair, Kira had already slipped down the thatched roof and towards the stables.

As she entered, the horses whinnied impatiently. Her feet carried her instinctively towards their small grey mare, Lady. It had been a gift from Mrs. Pampers as thanks for Kira's help in finding her son, Gerald─a ridiculous and annoying boy a couple of years her junior with freckles all over his face and the guts to tease her about hers.

He'd gotten lost in the fog the year prior. Kira knew the heath surrounding the village almost by heart from the countless times she'd gone with her mum to pluck herbs and had had the foresight to tie a rope around her waist as she went looking. When she found him, she heard him before she saw him: his snivels would have given him away eventually, she thought.

Nonetheless, she was grateful for Lady. Putting her hand on Lady's muzzle was like running it down the finest of silk─not that Kira had ever touched silk, but she'd heard from travelling traders that it was incredibly soft, and the feeling calmed her.

Only seconds after Kira had disentangled herself from her horse─

("A very fine gift," her mum had called it; Kira wasn't sure she'd liked receiving that from someone who'd only just moved to the village. Tales of Medieval witch-hunts haunted her in a way Kira had never been able to understand.)

─the stable doors opened. She didn't need to turn around to know that it was Damian.

She could tell by his footsteps.

"Are you here to tell me to let it go too?" she said angrily without looking at him. Her mum had woken her up to take care of the horses, so that was what Kira was going to do.

"No," Damian said. Kira thought he sounded out of breath.

"Kira," he said, putting a hand on her upper arm. "I'm going to help you find your dad."

She was suffocating.

When she'd been small, she'd understood well enough that all fairy tales happened in castles, and Propose to the Princess was the most popular game in her village, but after a few years at Hogwarts, Kira longed for the wide heath and the deep forests.

Needless to say, she never visited the forbidden one.

Instead, Kira had decided on a new habit: finishing breakfast early and taking a walk on the grounds. Sometimes she would visit the Quidditch Pitch and remember the first year classes. A part of her wanted to try to fly a broom again, but she wasn't very interested in the competition.

Today, however, she didn't walk ten steps until she heard someone sneeze. Turning around, she watched a boy frantically digging through the flowerbeds and diving into a mass of─

"Don't!"

Kira hurried towards him just as he sat back from another sneeze.

"It is not polite to stare."

Blinking, Kira stared for a few minutes. Then her temper flared, and she said, "Well, it isn't polite to snap at someone who was trying to help you either!"

He took too long to respond.

Kira pointed at the flowers beside them, and said more calmly, "You were touching Oleander. I was trying to tell you they're poisonous. But I guess that's too late now."
