Illowy Magnard can be a difficult book to read at times. She was brought up by a single mother her entire life, and since it was such a normality to her, she never thought much about the other part of her family, after all its hard to miss something you never had. At least in her case. Rarely did her mother ever speak about her father, much less ever mentioned to her that he had been a muggle. Illowy grew up with what she called her "Patchwork Family". Otherwise known as all the people who had come into her life and stayed; which always meant more to her then simply being bound by blood.

As the child grew, she took interest in art, music and dance; all of which were mostly self taught. She taught herself to draw and paint, as well as took a deep interest in learning how to play the violin from a young age. The only thing taught formally to her was dance, which her mother had started her at once she was old enough to put two steps together. With all these interests though, Illowy still failed socially, often preferring to be on her own then around children her own age. It wasn't that she didn't like being around other people, it was simply that she often found herself more content to be alone then worrying about maintaining relationships with people outside of her little family.

As she's grown, that aspect of her hasn't changed much. She still prefers to keep mostly to herself, though still has managed to gather a couple of friends along the way. She keeps faithful to her work, wanting to be the best witch she could possibly be and prove herself to be more then what people expect of her.

House Request: Slytherin

Personality:
Tell us a bit about your character’s personality (likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) What are they like on a good day versus a bad one? Is your character particularly cheerful? Do they hate sunlight? Though Illowy often comes across as cold, detached, and even cynical, the people who know her know that deep down she does truly care... even if she doesn't always show it in the most conventional ways. She likes to keep a strong, stoic air about herself, never wanting to look weak. Especially in times of trouble.

Appearance:
Briefly describe your character's appearance (hair color, build, stature, etc.) What effect does it have on their personality? For example, does the shy Ravenclaw girl secretly dye her hair black because she hates her natural blonde? Does the curly-haired Gryffindor use charms to hide his freckles? Illowy has long, dark hair that seems almost perminantly confused; always somewhere in the middle of wanting to be straight, wavy and curly all at the same time. Over the years of learning to deal with it, the only thing she's found to help is to pincurl it. A task in and of itself, but at least it helps her make sure her hair stays mostly uniform. She has cold, bright blue eyes, with fair skin. Illowy isn't very tall, only coming to about 5ft 2in, but what she lacks in height she makes up for in attitude. As far as her build, the girl is fairly slender with some tone from years of dancing.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Sample

Illowy shook a hand through her hair as she quietly walked down the hall towards the Slytherin common room. After years of wandering up and down the halls, one learned how to walk without annoying one's self into oblivion with the sound of echoing footsteps. At least she had. There was a stark, sour smell ruminating through the halls today. A scent she could only assume was caused by a younger student who blew their assignment, literally. Another thing that was less then uncommon at she'd grown used to. This was her normality, and it was strange to think of how it would be coming to an end before too much longer as she approached the end of her schooling.

The brunette allowed her attention to fall down to the sketches in her hand, flipping through them. She'd been working on an idea for a new painting, and thus had been working on several rough sketches to get the idea solidified before formally starting the project. When she suddenly heard a tiny voice echo through the halls, she stopping in her tracks, looking around herself. Who in the world could be down here this late?

Trekking on, the older girl found herself encroaching on a first year. A Gryffindor that could have easily been mistaken for a lost lamb. Illowy couldn't help but quietly watch the child for a moment, who was clearly about to drive herself mad with fright, "You're not suppose to be down here this late." she spoke firmly. Perhaps the tone wasn't quite right, the girl did already seem like she was scared enough, "You'd be wise to get back to your own house before you get yourself in trouble." Illowy did have some empathy for the first years, but only some. They were the most innocent beings in the school in her opinion. They could also be the most trouble, though; and often more trouble then they were worth.

Not waiting for a response, the young woman shifted her belonging in her hands before waving the girl over as she started to turn back towards the way of the staircase, "C'mon, now. The dungeons are not the place for children."
