Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Sarah Elizabeth Carter

Birthday: February 10th, 1945

Hometown: Hogsmead, Scotland

Bloodline: Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): First, Second

Biography:
Sarah was born the first (by 5 minutes) of 4 children to James and Poppy Carter. There was a time when they were happy, though she may have read it in a book. As a child, after PJ was born, all Sarah wanted in life was a little sister. Someone to play dolls and dress up with. In stories if you wished upon a star your dreams would come true, so she did. Nightly. The day Chrissy was born was one of the happiest days of Sarah’s life, but it was short-lived.

Not long after the birth of his 4th child, her father left and never returned.

Rob thought it was his fault, but Sarah knew better--she always knew better. She’d been the one wishing for Chrissy when the Carter family only had room for 5. That was why Daddy left.

After that, Mom was always sad. She’d cry when she thought no one was around to notice, but Sarah did. Then one day, Mom was gone too. There were stories about orphans, but actually being one was different. There weren’t adventures to be had, families didn’t appear out of limos to adopt you, and stories didn’t tell you how to deal with all the sadness and the grief of your siblings.

Years passed by with no new family, and Sarah was secretly grateful because it meant that they were still together. She would never express that out loud though. The fear that Chrissy or Phillip would be adopted without her or Robert was terrifying and while living in the orphanage wasn’t ideal, they still had their little family.

When the letters from Hogwarts came for the twins, Sarah was elated and hoped to be in Ravenclaw like their mother was. That was until she realized that PJ and Chrissy would be left alone. Again.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Ravenclaw

Personality:

Sarah’s personal hero is Nancy Drew. Bold, brave and ever inquisitive, she soaks up knowledge like a sponge and has a keen memory to boot. She’s been described as being a bit of a know it all--ok, a big know it all. She can’t help but correct people when they are misinformed, which isn’t always the popular option. She hates being questioned just because she’s a young girl almost as much as she hates being wrong.

To her siblings, Sarah is a bit bossy; when you have two brothers who are bickering constantly and have a penchant for stubbornness you have to be a little stern to get your point across or get things done. Sarah loves them all deeply though and puts on her best happy face for them despite her own worries. Her interest in reading became a coping mechanism after her mother ‘left’, finding it much easier to bury herself in books than to face her own sadness. She’d even read to her siblings once they were put into the system--it felt like a tiny piece of home.

While Rob is her other half and often balances her out, Sarah is also close to her other siblings as well. Because her twin often dotes on Chrissy, she has a strong relationship with PJ, but wants nothing more than for them all to stay together. They’ve been left behind enough, a fact which gives Sarah grief when attempting to reconcile her excitement for Hogwarts with being separated from her little siblings.

Appearance:
Ciara Bravo

Sarah is short for her age and all too skinny--a wisp of a thing, some might say. Her limbs feel too long and she often gets teased for being ‘bony’, as if she had a choice in the matter. Her face is round, with a gentle cleft in her chin and a pudgy little nose. While Robert is fair,  Sarah is his opposite with chestnut brown hair and large dark eyes. Her lips are thin like her brother’s,  and though she is quick to smile, her expression always holds a subtle hint of sadness.

When it comes to personal style, Sarah has none. With clothing choices being limited to donations and hand-me-downs, the young witch was thrilled that at Hogwarts you had to wear uniforms. Hers may not be the newest and sharpest, but everyone dresses the same. If she had her choice, she’d dress a little more femininely, despite being all knees and elbows.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

After the first week at Hogwarts, Sarah had plenty to write to PJ and Chrissy about. She felt as though she was acclimating well enough; she loved her classes, the other students were kind (mostly), she had her own warm, cozy bed to sleep in at night, and oh Merlin--the food was leagues better. As the quill scratched the last word onto her parchment, an overwhelming sense of guilt washed over the tiny brunette. How selfish of her to boast about at the wonders of the castle when her little brother and sister were stuck in that dreary orphanage alone? Rob would be furious with her if she sent off her letter. She’d promised she would write them, but was a little lost for words at the moment. Maybe a different perspective was needed. Crumpling up the letter, Sarah tossed it in the bin on her way out of the common room.

The first year had done a little bit of exploring on her own since arriving at the castle. Mostly just the grounds, which were beautiful in comparison to ‘home’,and the library--naturally. The young witch had discovered the gardens after dinner on the third day and found a corner that she was particularly fond of. It was quiet and sunny with plenty of colorful fall flowers, Sarah was just itching to sneak a book out here to read. It also seemed to be a good place to think.

Seating herself in the grass, the first year leaned back, enjoying the warmth of the sun on her face and the perfume of the gardens. Enjoying the quiet, Sarah’s mind began to wander back to her siblings. Chrissy would love this spot, PJ might too. The brunette would be sure to bring them here when it was their turn to come to Hogwarts too. It was then that it occurred to her. Maybe she could send a little bit of the gardens magic to them! If she pressed some bright, cheery flowers they should fit neatly into an envelope.

The brunette set off in search of the happiest looking flowers she could find. Dark eyes spotted some bright yellow blooms and when she reached out to pick a few, she noticed a small, beady eyed face looking back at her. Most girls would have screamed and run away at the sight of the rat, but when it didn’t make a move to run, neither did she. Rob was the animal lover of the two, but he’d helped her not to be afraid of the mice that were often encountered in the orphanage. She still didn’t like it when they nibbled at the few books they had though.

“Hello there.” The first year smiled, collecting her flowers when the rat edged closer instead of scampering off. She held out her hand for the rodent, which sniffed her, tickling her fingertips with its whiskers. A tiny paw was placed upon her hand before the rat climbed in altogether. Someone must have lost their pet as she was no Doctor Dolittle. A massive sneeze from behind startled the girl, but she managed to maintain possession of the rat and her flowers.

“Bless.” She said, turning just in time to see the obviously older boy wipe his nose on his robes. Gross. The stripe of snot left behind looked like a snail trail, and the tiny brunette hadn’t even noticed she was staring until she was called out for it. “Yeah, well, it’s got good manners to wipe your nose on your clothes either.”

From the looks of him, the tall boy was having a reaction to something. Why be outside then? Unless…

Dark eyes moved from the dripping student to the rat in her hand. “You lose something by chance?”

Hi Sarah, welcome to the site!

Your application looks great, there's just one thing that needs editing before we can get you accepted.

In your roleplay sample, you play the rat's actions as well as Sarah's. Whilst this is just a sample, if Hugh's post were real, your post might be considered as powerplay, as it's his rat and you're controlling its actions -- only Hugh should really be deciding how his pet reacts (e.g. it might hate people and have run away instead). If you could edit out any parts of your RP sample where you control the rat's actions, that would be great.

Once you've made the required change, please repost your entire revised application below, and we'll be more than happy to take another look. Thank you!
cherry lips, crystal skies
i could show you incredible things

stolen kisses, pretty lies
you're the king, baby, i'm your queen

“Honey in your tea might help if you have allergies.” The brunette stated without being asked, she really needed to work on that.
