Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Theodore Bercovici, or Theo as he prefers to be called, was born to Constance and Simon Bercovici in a small town in County Devon on a cold morning in December 1940. Constance, an expert in enchanting and disenchanting objects, ran a small shop for repairing magical items on the fritz; Simon worked in the Department of Magical Transporation. Theo grew up as an the only child of two people embroiled in their careers. There was little time for scheduling outings with other families or vacations; Theo turned to reading, losing himself in mystery novels and the charms books his parents had left lying around the house. The Bercovici home was a quiet one.

Matching his earlier childhood, Theo's time at Hogwarts was somber. He was lucky, having entered his Hogwarts career just after the decline of the Hexenreich and the return to some semblence of normalcy for the British wizarding community. He was quickly sorted into Hufflepuff, a match he surely found to be a mistake; he wanted quiet contemplation and the badger house offered warm conversation and loud laughter. He made few friends but many acquaintances, often called 'nice but quiet' and generally an afterthought to his peers. Theodore shied away from social gatherings, fearing the spotlight while other children feared the dark. This was complicated by his appearance: Theodore was tall and lanky, his head bobbing above the crowd of students even as he slouched his shoulder to hide away.

While failing on social fronts, Theo excelled in his studies. His parents, always finding him studious, were convinced he a naturally gifted wizard; Theo, however, simply chose to be studious rather than interact with his fellow students. His attention to detail and love of problem-solving made him a model pupil, even if he was too timid to answer a question out loud in class. Receiving top marks on his O.W.L.s and entering his N.E.W.T. level courses, Theo made a relatively startling career decision: he would apply to become an auror, a specialized investigative arm of the Ministry of Magic tasked with catching criminals and maintaining order. After a life of being the world’s sidekick, Theo wanted to be on the frontlines like the detectives from his favorite mystery novels, solving cases and saving people. Many people, ranging from his worried parents to his close (nearly non-existent) circle of friends and mentors, gently warned him against it. Aurors were steeled individuals, stoic and feared. Theodore was quiet and meek; he was a gifted wizard but had all the terrifying presence of a piece of toast. Nevertheless, he would not be talked down and applied for the training program following his graduation from Hogwarts. Against all odds, he was accepted into the program.

Theodore’s auror training began soon after he graduated, as intensive as anything he’d done at Hogwarts. He was well-suited for many of the tasks; his skills in charms and defense the against the dark arts were superb; his ability to maintain a stealthy presence was surprising for someone of his nature, but it was certainly assisted by his desire to never be seen or noticed in most cases. The area where he struggled most, to no one’s surprise, was interrogation. Theodore was meek and timid, struggling to meet people in the eye even when attempting to recover information. However, with some much-needed practicing stern faces in the mirror and some quiet leniency from his superiors, Theodore moved on to field work, still tethered to a senior auror to keep a close eye on his progress.

Option Two -
The snow had been falling steadily all morning and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Joshua Campbell scrunched his face up in a frown as he lifted his gaze to look to the sky. Snow. It really was quite a bother.

And it certainly didn't make it better that Diagon Alley seemed to be getting more and more crowded. Joshua sighed and pointed his wand at the large box that was currently placed on the doorstep of his shop. He had to get going. He had an order to deliver.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" The elderly man muttered and watched the box hover in the air for a moment. Honestly, did St. Mungo's really need that much tinsel? And with glitter of all things? He sighed again. If it hadn't been for the rather convincing stamp on the order, he would have been likely to believe it had been a prank by one of those orphaned rascals living up there.

Oh well, there was no point in waiting. Joshua deftly stirred the box down the doorstep and out onto the street, carefully levitating it above the heads of the crowd.

"Coming through! Coming through!" His voice sounded over the chatter of the crowd. "Keep out! Move ahead! Go on!" This was going way too slow. People were in the way and walking like they had all day! He huffed. Luckily the road was down hill.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!" Joshua let out a loud shout as his feet suddenly slipped in the snow and sent him, the box, and several long strands of tinsel tumbling into the person who had been walking in front of him.

"For Merlin's sake!" Joshua muttered angrily as he hurried to his feet again, red and gold tinsel now decorating his black coat. "I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" He looked apologetic at the person he had crashed into.

Roleplay Response:
Theodore glanced to the grey skies, ignoring the snowflakes that landed gently on his glasses. He pulled his coat tighter as a gust of wind tunneled between the shops lining Diagon Alley and bit at his exposed cheeks. The streets were crowded as witches and wizards of all walks pushed along the cobblestone streets, pushing past one another in search of good deals. Theo closed his eyes, taking a deep breath as his toes were stepped on by yet another careless shopper; he wanted to turned and leave through the Leaky Cauldron, apparating back to his flat for an afternoon of quiet contemplation.

There, just visible through the veil of snow, was a worn wooden sign that emblazoned Theo’s favorite bookstore. A port in the storm. Auror training hadn’t been kind to Theo; he didn’t think that anything could compete with the anxiety brought about by N.E.W.T. examinations, but he was quickly proven wrong. Stealth, concealment, and tactical planning topics swirled in his head, haunting his thoughts. Diagrams and chalkboard lectures were stained on the backs of his eyelids. However, for all of his shot nerves, Theodore was proud to be training as an auror. He long dreamed of solving crimes and catching criminals like some folk hero. He daydreamed even as he pushed through the sea of people towards his favorite store; he’d convinced himself it was a trip to buy more books on auror-related topics, but noir novels and mystery thrillers filled his head before he’d even made it to the bookstore’s door. He was just deciding on the type of book he’d want to read when there was a commotion occurring over his shoulder.

“Coming through! Coming th---arrrgh!” a gruff voice shouted. Theodore turned just in time to see a sea of red gold blur his vision. He recoiled, just in time to fall backwards into a rapidly parting crowd, landing in an awkward sitting position. He pulled the tinsel off, spitting it out of his mouth and picking it out of his glasses. He stood up, his face flooding with color as people muttered around him before returning to their shopping. Before him stood an elderly man who was himself scrambling back to his feet, recovering the box that had once held the tinsel that now littered the snow.

“For Merlin’s sake!” the elderly wizard exclaimed in an exasperated tone, picking tinsel off his dark coat. “I am so sorry! This blasted snow!” Theodore blinked, his mind still trying to push aside his embarrassment. All of his auror training and he was bested by an old man with a box. He shook the silly thought away.

“Don’t worry about it,” Theodore assured the man, remembering his manners. He bent down, helping to recover some of the tinsel that gleamed against the snow-covered cobblestones. “Are you okay?”
