Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Dorothy Wilson

Birthday: 15/4/1948

Hometown: Scarborough, Yorkshire

Bloodline:
Muggleborn / Halfblood / Pureblood / Unknown (the part-veela bit makes everything just a little bit weird)

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): Preferably fourth (mostly for continuity) but maybe 3rd? It just doesn't really make sense for her to be repeating in my eyes but I don't mind I'm sure we'll find a way

Biography:
Dorothy Wilson had had her head in the clouds, this was not an unknown fact. However, these past three years had been remarkable as although she had been noted to be found talking people's ears off, specifically most of the portraits-- for rather unknown reasons, usually due to discussing their paint and what made them move and talk. Sometimes she could be found cartwheeling on the green land outside of the school, usually spotted from one window in the library, the one right behind the charms section with the slightly chipped pane. But Dorothy Wilson had been uncharacteristically quiet, which was not entirely her fault, it was because she had discovered a new passion, entirely by accident: art.

Paint was expensive, that was for certain, but she had managed to get lucky and find some tools in a tucked away thrift store on a backstreet of town. And the art room in the East Bailey by that picture of the dancing trolls also really helped her grow in ability, as it provided a safe space to practice. She also rather liked the trees just on the outskirts of the definitely not forbidden forest, which she enjoyed looking into and sketching.

Yellow paints and messy fingers, large canvases left on the floor of the dormitory to dry out, stained blankets and paint on the walls of the shower. Letters sent home with paintings of her family, returning packages of hand me down clothes, and a stubborn refusal to wear anything pink-- rather unfortunate since it became both of her older sisters' signature colour. Rather bored of her same few models, it's time to step into something new and have fun whilst doing it, and by fun, she means chaos. Because Dorothy grew up in arguably one of the most chaotic households in Britain, and that meant that she enjoys chaos and pranking her friends!

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request: Hufflepuff if possible (just for continuity as that was where she was sorted for the first time before I poofed <3)

Personality:
Aspiring Beam of Sunlight, Dorothy is quite possibly the personification of her favourite colour: yellow. Incredibly cheerful, she allows any negativity to bounce straight off her, as instead of reacting, she prefers to ignore it. She’s also got an affinity toward baking, courtesy of her family, and enjoys (occasionally) causing chaos. Newer hobbies that she's discovered since have included painting, drawing, and photography-- preferring to be behind the lens rather than in front of it. Of course, her most used colour is yellow, specifically for portraits, but she'll really paint anyone and anything.

Appearance:
Blonde hair, blue eyes, Dorothy Wilson would be the all american girl-- if she was from america and not yorkshire. Paint stained fingers, half arsed makeup, and a slightly messy demeanour that doesn't really matter because you can't really tell with the speed she moves and talks at.

How your character kept up with their studies: Still at Hogwarts, just sort of in her own little world-- I think I tried to make her an NPC but left before the rule change that said they had to have a wiki!!

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

Option I:
She wasn't entirely sure how she'd gotten down here. Dorothy Wilson wasn't lost, no that was for certain, but was rather caught up in her own thoughts, had found her staircase moving whilst she was on it-- a punishment for dawdling, no doubt-- and now was wandering through the dungeons. She didn't mind, of course, there was something unique about the dungeons, whether it be the thick smell of damp because of the lake above them, the risk of the walls caving in, or the fact that potions had always fascinated her.

So the fourteen year old happily wandered through, searching for any new portraits that would be willing to talk to her about the wonders of painting, or any person who'd be willing to talk to her. She wasn't entirely sure she would though, mostly because people tended to avoid the dungeons, maybe it was the smell? No, that wasn't that bad, nothing compared to the docks on a hot day. Maybe the eerie atmosphere that the place allegedly had-- something that Dorothy had never found to exist, but others apparently did. The stone walls, however, were disappointingly not yielding a painting for her to find, and the blonde almost groaned, maybe the mission would be a failure.

"H-h-hello?"

Was that a new ghost? The blonde looked around, she hadn't heard anyone else walking, and the person sounded almost silent. She was lucky it was so quiet!

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

Of course Dorothy had heard of Emma Birch, any incoming firstie received the tale as a warning about the dungeons, though the scariest thing down there was the risk of drowning in the pool. Turning a corner, she found herself face to face with the source of the sound: a tiny little blonde creature.

"Well, you're not a ghost" She stated, almost matter of fact, before a grin broke out on her face, "Sorry I thought you were for a second. I'm Dorothy, not a ghost either which is very good-- no offence to ghosts of course I'm sure they're having a great time, but it's just not the sort of thing for me. Oh you're shivering!! Are you cold? Do you want my robe? I don't really get cold anymore, I'm always too hot if anything I think it's all the exploring it keeps you warm! Have you explored yet? I think it's great fun, wait, I'm not interrupting your exploring am I? I'm very sorry, see in my first year I wandered the entire castle-- got very lost, it was very fun I do recommend. You see, people let you guys slide about skipping class if you get lost because it can be very confusing, but I've found that first years-- that's you-- tend to travel in packs--" She paused, and frowned slightly, "So where on earth is your pack?"

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Dorothy Wilson

Birthday: 15/4/1948

Hometown: Scarborough

Bloodline:
Muggleborn / Halfblood / Pureblood / Unknown

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): first year (first choice), second year

Biography:
Dorothy was never supposed to be born. This fact was never made obvious to her, but she picked up on details, small ones, like the fact that her older sister had a double barrel name, Marilyn-Rose. In fact, Dorothy was pretty sure that she was supposed to be a Rose, but they weren't expecting a third child. The second point was that she had her own room, which would usually be a good thing, but her room was also the office whilst Lyn and Carrie got their own shared bedroom. She was never supposed to have a bedroom.

But, even though she knew she was an accident, she was certainly a happy accident. She was both this metaphorically and literally. A sunbeam who was always adored by her sisters, who she idolised. With an angelic face, and the classic Wilson looks. She immediately slotted into the family with ease, sharing her sisters bed when she had nightmares, or baking with Lyn, or watching Carrie do her makeup. Her dad taught her to gut a fish, and her mum taught her how to do cartwheels, flips, and baton twirling (unlike the other two, she had the fingers for it). She fit in.

Then her sister went off to a school for magicians, and she got thrust into a whole new life. Not only did she have to deal with people who were like her sister, only much meaner for reasons still unknown, but she did not belong. It was made blatantly clear by those her sister wanted her to meet, to fit in with. The closest thing was someone who she vaguely knew, but they got along, ate cupcakes.

But then Mari graduated, and the family moved. They toured all the way across America, meaning that she missed her first year at the school, and now she had to make up for it somehow. And she would make up for it somehow, that was a promise.

House Request: she’s gonna be a hufflepuff, isn’t she?

Personality:
Aspiring Beam of Sunlight, Dorothy is quite possibly the personification of her favourite colour: yellow. Incredibly cheerful, she allows any negativity to bounce straight off her, as instead of reacting, she prefers to ignore it. She’s also got an affinity toward baking, courtesy of her family, and enjoys (occasionally) causing chaos.

→ RETURNING STUDENTS.

I know she’s not an official returning student, since I never apped her but I felt like this was applicable to the situation.

How your character kept up with their studies: Whilst she was on the road with her sister, Dore was able to observe magic and began to get a slight headstart (if it could even be called that) because of this. However, they didn’t really have the time to keep up her studies, so instead, her family focused on what they knew best: muggle subjects. This is why Dore is being applied as a first year, as she is virtually completely unaware of magic, aside from a few random things. However, she learnt many stories about the school, and knows lots about the way Hogwarts works.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

Option I:
It was very damp down within the dungeons, she had never been warned that it was damp down there. She really should have anticipated this fact since the slytherin common rooms were apparently under the lake (although that must have made them very uncomfortable?). It was almost overwhelming, almost suffocating, Dore shook her head at her own stupidity-- it would not suffocate her, so she took a deep breath. And then instantly regretted it.

She found herself gagging on a sour burning smell, like someone had attempted to make a lemon tart, but had decided to cook it with the curd in it, and then had let it blacken and char, and then coated it in another layer of lemon juice. It was bad.

This was not the sort of place that you would do your gymnastics, which is why Dorothy found herself wandering near silently (so as to not disturb the smell, lest it get impossibly worse) down the corridors, a finger tracing the stone walls. Although she probably should have been scared, she found that she wasn’t. Perhaps it was the excitement of a new place, or the way that the atmosphere hinted at something new, unique, and exciting. She wanted to find out what was causing that excitement. This adrenaline caused her to ignore the cold, and instead venture further.

That was when she heard the voice, coming from around a corner. It somehow sounded rather familiar, as though she had heard it before. Maybe it was somebody from one of her classes? They must have been very quiet in all of her classes, as they were virtually whispering. Oh, she never responded, well, that wasn’t very like her. But the girl was continuing on.

“...Is Emma Birch here?”

Dorothy was not Emma Birch… wait, wasn’t that that ghost that people said lived in the dungeons? A rather evil grin came upon her face, as she attempted an incredibly bad ghost impression, whilst hidden away in her little corner.

“Wooo, yes I am Emma Birch… wooooooooooo”

And then she remembered how scared the other person had sounded, and how mean she was being to continue that fear. And so, the blonde stepped out from her little corner, and found herself staring at the other person-- a girl. A bright smile was quickly pulled on as she (quite literally) bounced down towards the other girl, her mouth opening to speak incredibly quickly, not caring if she cut others off-- a trait from her family.

“I was just kidding, I’m not Emma Birch it’s nice to meet you because I didn’t mean to scare you, though the dungeons aren't really that scary are they? Why did you come down here? I came here because I haven’t properly explored this area and it smells doesn't it? I wasn’t expecting it to smell this badly, though it is Scotland, which probably always smells like this, I can’t be sorry though, we are learning magic in a castle, which is really cool isn’t it? My sister came here, you know, what’s your family like? I’ve three sisters, only one is not magical, but she’s really cool. We like baking, what does your family do? We also model, that’s why you might recognise my sisters, I don’t like modelling though, I prefer baking-- cupcakes are really delicious, aren’t they? Do you prefer something else, some people like these things called croissants--”

Her french accent was notably bad.

“Though I don’t think they’re as good. My sister hates cakes, though, can’t stand sugar. She doesn’t even have a birthday cake!! I do, my last one was double chocolate chip with added chocolate buttercream. It was delicious! It was in America, we’ve just gotten back this year, and it was amazing, all the ocean and the sun, and the cheerleading. The cheerleading was a proper thing there, like a proper thing. It was amazing! I’m a flyer when I do it, that’s why I have the big bow, see? I think that you’re really cool, and by the way I’m Dorothy Wilson, so... what’s your name?”

Biography:

In fact, Dorothy was pretty sure that she was supposed to be a Rose, but they weren't expecting a third child. The second point was that she had her own room, which would usually be a good thing, but her room was also the office whilst Lyn and Carrie got their own shared bedroom. She fit in.

Then Lyn went off to a special school, and everyone looked at her like they were expecting something. Something unusual from her, like she was a unicorn in a human body or something. But she wasn't. Or at least, that's what she thought. Sure, tea leaves sometimes looked like suns, and she knew it'd be sunny that day, or that she always knew the perfect place to find the prettiest shells, but it wasn't much more than that. Unbeknownst to Dorothy, she was most certainly a witch, which fortunately matched her family's suspicions and led to her being made to socialise in new places with different people who wore very strange clothes, and rode brooms, for some reason...

Roleplay:
Godric Park.

One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
The sky was super duper blue, more blue than she'd ever seen in Scarborough which was usually the grey of her mum's eyes, but this sky was the colour of her crayon labelled 'sea', it was a bright blue, so blue it could be the definition of blue with a sun that was very Lyn yellow and she couldn't help but feel very very happy as she thought of that colour, the colour of sprinkles.

In the sky there were broomsticks, that were flying. Like birds, but not birds, because although birds were very super duper cool, these were even cooler, and she wanted to try one, because she was sure they had one in the house but this was a very new place to her and was the colour of the crayons in her bag, which wasn't actually her bag but rather her sister's but that wasn't important. What was important was the flying people in the park which was super duper cool.

Dorothy Wilson had brought with her many things, including: her crayons, her drawing book, a packed lunch with Wilson cupcakes, a juice box, her favourite platypus teddy bear, an apple (that would remain untouched), 4 pebbles, a piece of string, some ribbon, a piece of fluff, and a wooden bracelet. However, what she didn't bring was a super cool flying broomstick.

In fact with a whoosh that sent her hair flying back, not one, not two but three broomsticks with obviously cool people zoomed past her face and left Dore with a cheerful gawk on her face. This was just so cool, she couldn't wait to tell her sisters all about it when she got home. Flying broomsticks. Who would believe her? They would, they always did.

In fact, Dore dropped right where she was on the floor, immediately crossing her legs so that they wouldn't trip anyone up, because that'd be bad and hurt them, and she didn't want to do that, because that was mean and she wasn't mean. No, her name wasn't Dorothy Meanie, she was a Wilson, and Wilsons weren't mean. She pulled the bag off her back and pulled out her pad and crayons, beginning a drawing of the sky and the flying people so that Lyn and Carrie had to believe her when she was home.

"You! ...Do you want to play?"

Dorothy looked up and saw another girl, a bright smile on her face, as her crayons were shoved hastily into the backpack, which was thrown onto her back as she ran over to the other girl.

"YES!!!!!!!!" She exclaimed loudly, doing a cartwheel on the way. "You have one of the cool flying sticks!!!! How do they work? They go really quickly, it's just like a whoosh and then they're gone! Can you ride it? That'd be so cool!!! Do you come here a lot? I don't but I might come more, what's your name? I'm Dorothy, but you can call me Dore."
