Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Maura Olfrey

Birthday: February 4th

Hometown: London, England

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Transfiguration

Year (pick two): First or Second

Biography:
Maura Olfrey has no memory of her parents. The first home she can remember is an orphanage attached to St Mungo’s. She was very small when the Time Warp happened and she was somehow separated from her parents. At the time of the warp, she was with a muggle babysitter while her parents were out running errands. Maura was found alone by a wizard couple who assumed she was a muggleborn with magical abilities and brought her to St Mungo's. She grew up isolated from the other children, because she always had her nose in whatever books she could get her hands on, anything from Tales of Beedle the Bard to Histories of Magic. She would rarely talk to the other kids, because they assumed she was weird because she never wanted to play. She has grown up believing that she is muggleborn, based on what she’s been told. When she received her Hogwarts letter, she was confused to say the least. She thought that magic wasn’t something that she could have possessed, of all people. But in her mind, she saw it as a new opportunity to get out of the orphanage, whatever it could hold for her.

House Request: Ravenclaw

Personality:
She spends her free time reading and watching films. She likes music, sometimes laying in bed for hours to analyze the lyrics and writes short stories based off of them. She has a casually chic fashion style, and is very prideful in putting together color coordinated outfits. Maura is very sarcastic, empathetic, reserved, and loves talking about big issues and philosophical concepts. She will be very shy at first, because of her upbringing and independent, free spirit personality. But when she opens up, she will be incredibly nice and outgoing with her friends. Maura doesn't like obnoxious, brash, mean, or abrasive people. They tend to make her quieter and feel overpowered. She will not want to be around these people but will hardly ever voice her opinions. She fears genuine human connection, because it is something completely foreign to her. She just knows how to keep people at arm's length and to be polite. On a good day, Maura is very positive and almost talkative. She will talk more than usual and raise her hand in class more often. On a bad day, Maura completely draws into herself and will not be bothered to talk to anyone. Maura has no idea what Hogwarts will hold for her, but is cautiously optimistic.

Appearance:
Maura has an athletic body type with platinum blonde hair. She has light brown eyes that are hidden behind thin framed round glasses. Maura has never put much thought into her appearance, and usually just puts her hair into a loose low ponytail so it is out of her face. She is naturally pretty, and hardly ever wears makeup. When she does, it's just a bit of mascara when she feels that she looks particularly dead or tired.

You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Maura slowly stepped out of the darkness. “Hello? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you, I was just looking for the potions professor. I just had a few questions about the homework that I couldn't find in the books. I thought he would be around here somewhere, but I can't seem to find anything in this ghastly place.”
Maura pushed up her glasses and adjusted her stack of textbooks in her grip. She looked back to the trembling Evangeline and put on her best smile.
“Do you want me to help you find your way back to the common rooms? I'm sure the staircase is around here somewhere.”

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Maura Olfrey

Birthday: February 4th

Hometown: London, England

Bloodline:
Muggleborn / Halfblood / Pureblood / Unknown

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): First or Second

Biography:
Maura Olfrey has never met her parents. The first home she can remember is with her foster parents, Emily and Luke Cauffman. Her foster mother Emily was there, but always absent, sitting around the house and staring off into space. Her father Luke worked for a large business firm, so he was never home. Maura had to raise herself and take care of her mother, including cooking and cleaning around the house. Her relationship with her foster parents can be described as business at best. When she received her Hogwarts letter, she was confused to say the least. She thought that magic was just stuff that happened in movies, no way it could be real. But in her mind, anywhere was better than here. So she left a note, packed her bags, and used what little money she had to hail a cab.
