Zaniah, is Aliyah and Dominic’s second child. When the Aliyah and Dominic’s marriage had already started falling apart. For they first five years of her life, she saw two very different people trying to make their life together… and failing. Her parents are from very different backgrounds and soon they grew apart in a slightly unpleasant and border-line violent manner, which Zaniah’s young fresh mind was a witness to…

Aliyah Auriga is the only daughter and the last descendent of the wealthy, forward thinking family of Arabic investors – The Aurigas. Brought up with all the possible luxury and respect, she grew up to be a very broad-minded, well-versed lady, who decided to settle in Britain as freelance writer. It was there that she met Dominic Colton a Half-blood, born to a muggle-born father. He was immersed in muggle science under the influence of his paternal family and magical theories thanks to his education… an interest which he later grew obsessed with and it became the cause of his failing marriage.

Despite the reservation the Auriga family members had, they miraculously agreed to let Dominic and Aliyah marry. Zaniah’s parents settled down away from prying eyes, in a farmhouse that was the young girl’s home for the first five years of her life.

Zaniah was five (her brother eight) when Aliyah finally decided it was time to walk out of the relationship, it was a bold decision, but she cooked up a lie that her real husband was an Arab pureblood who died of an incurable ailment, while maintaining friendly need-based relations with Dominic.

For the last three years, Zaniah’s been living with her mother and brother in an apartment. There is a stark contrast between her brother’s calm-collected attitude and her cry-baby impulsive manners. She gives her mother quite a handful and usually demands more attention than necessary… from both her family members. Her brother has applied for admission at Salem and Zaniah knows she’s going to miss him terribly and that she is going to grow a little lonely.[/i]

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Zaniah sat under the shade of the tree. The only time she liked to be under the sun was when she was playing either Football or Quidditch. Football was a game she picked up and instantly fell in love with, on her excursions to the muggle side of London.

The dappled sunlight fell in pools of rays around her, like unclaimed spotlights. She was carrying a book that her mother had finished reading... Obviously she was struggling with it. It was called The Great Gatsby, it had lots of big words in it and she just leafed through the pages, reading whatever words she could understand. She reckoned she probably looked pretty smart with the book.

Eventually, she gave up and stopped pretending to read and understand the book. With a soft sigh she looked around to see three boys playing and passing on brooms. ‘Quidditch practice no doubt’ she thought and yearned to join them. She had an affinity for games… in general. Zaniah loved to play and Quidditch battled Football for the top spot.

But the guys looked older… and she couldn’t recognize them as Z’s friends. She stayed rooted to where she was and debated. Zaniah wasn’t shy usually, but then Z wasn’t around and neither was her mom. It was easier for her to go approach people, when her mom or brother were in the vicinity. Maybe it was just for assurance, in case the people were rude, (which never really happened) she could run back to the people, who will always love her, no matter what.

That’s when she noticed the girl who was struggling to get her toy broom to fly. Zan snickered, she couldn’t help it. She realized that really isn’t fair though; if it wasn’t for Z she wouldn’t even know the difference between a toy broomstick and a real one… Let alone know how to balance on the latter. If her paranoid mom had her way, she’d make Zan live in a world where Quidditch didn’t exist at all…

Part of Zan wanted to call out to this girl and let her know that she could never really play using that broom the other, wanted to sit and enjoy the show. She let the latter reign, and watched as the girl failed and fell to the ground and then guilt prevailed. Whenever Zan didn’t do the right thing, or whenever her inaction led to a bad result she felt guilty. She got up to check if the girl was all right.

Zaniah hadn’t even taken two steps and this girl was already off the ground. “You…” the girl said. Zaniah narrowed her eyes… That sounded more like an order. Zan smirked, looked like she’d found someone like herself. “Do you want to play?" the girl said. Zan squared her shoulders and walked right to the girl. “Sure I do…” Zan said and smiled sweetly. “But first I’ll have to teach you how to really play.” She added, her eyes widening  to associate the idea of really playing with wonder and her smile twitching to a friendly grin.

Hello Zaniah,

Your application is looking great! Before we can accept you, there's just one minor thing in your roleplay response I will need to ask you to address. You write that Janey fell off her broom, where in fact she landed quite safely.

As you can see, reading other people's posts carefully when roleplaying is quite important in order to avoid confusion. If you can just clear up that slight misunderstanding and repost your application below, we'll be happy to have another look at it.
