Biography: (100 words minimum.)

1954 - age five.

She couldn’t understand it.

They were walking along a street in their pretty dresses and smart clothes with their hair done up with bows. They wore nice, shiny shoes that she could see herself in and her tummy was full and her coat was warm.

Yet, there were people sat on the cold streets begging with dirty hands and rumpled clothing, begging for food and money.

“Mama, why don’t they have money like us?”

Fauna couldn’t remember if she got a response from her mother, just that she was shuffled along quickly and the cries of the woman on the floor was lost in the crowd’s murmurs. Any attempts at a look back were forgotten when her twin tugged at her hand at something in a shop window.

1956 - age 7

Fauna liked playing with her brothers and sister, they were fun and the house was filled with toys to play with. There were more than enough to last them their entire lives! She particularly enjoyed the puzzles and the colouring, the activities that let her sit down and focus.

“Miss Fauna!” Her head lifted from where she was crouched under the table, in an attempt to find the last piece of the puzzle she was so close to finishing - it was so pretty, with bright patterns and symbols. Their house was massive and so their parents needed help to look after it. She very much liked the house elves, they were always so polite and sweet to her. This elf in particular - Neena - that stood near the table watching her with concern, had become one of her best friends. “Nee! Can you help me find this puzzle piece please? I’ve almost finished the one we started yesterday.”

A fond smile came onto the house elf’s face as she helped the seven year old find the piece and then slot it into place.

“Thanks, Nee. I love you.”

“I love you too, Miss Fauna.”

Why couldn’t we be friends? That was a question she later asked her papa when he shouted at the elf when he found them colouring together one afternoon. He didn’t give her an answer either.

1958 - age nine

It was by this age, that she had begun to realise that she was slightly different to her other family members. They didn’t stop to think about the people who didn’t have homes, or those who didn’t have any friends to talk to.

There was nobody Fauna loved more than her family but sometimes..she wanted to expand her experiences, to have tea at someone’s house that wasn’t a mansion, to play in the park with kids she didn’t know the name of, to get her knees dirty in the mud and not care about ripping her dress.

However, that wasn’t quite possible just yet and so she would have to wait. She could wait because she loved her family and was extremely grateful for everything she was given and the opportunities that were in front of her - money couldn't buy happiness but it certainly opened up more options for activities and made it so she would never ever go without something she needed.

In the future, Fauna hoped she could give back everything that she got growing up. She wasn’t the same as her family but that was okay. Maybe she could teach them how to be nicer to people and they could teach her how to look pretty all the time and how to make people listen to her - something that she found hardly anyone did. For now, she would appreciate her wonderful life and enjoy it as much as possible.

Fauna is a young girl who wants to explore every nook and crevice of humanity. She feels emotions harshly, whether it be love or sadness, and often pays the price for tagging along with her twin sister. They were identical in every way physically and there was most certainly no chance ever in a million years of Fauna even considering not playing with her sister..even if sometimes she got shouted at or ignored.

She tries her best to behave in the whirlwind that was her siblings - Flora and Alex in particular - and this resulted in less time spent with her parents, but more freedom to read and do her own thing. Nathaniel kept her company a lot of the time, being quieter than the other half of their brood and therefore in the same situation as she, but Fauna still preferred the presence of her sister over anyone else.

Her bloodstatus and family name meant that she lived in a life of luxury, wanting for nothing and yet still feeling like she didn’t deserve it just because she was born into it. It was hard for a nine year old to come to terms with the grey areas of society and to battle the voice in her head that asked so many questions that couldn’t be answered.

Intelligent, observant and hardworking; Fauna learnt how to stick to her beliefs when she needed to and to fight for her opinion to be put on the table in any sibling discussions, or else she feared she’d get completely disregarded. Debate might have been a strong point for her, if it weren’t for her need to please her parents and agree with their requests, and the preference that being quieter was easier than disagreeing all the time. She’d leave that to Flora.

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Fauna had been allowed to stay inside and read rather than go outside with her siblings. This might have been because she’d eaten up all her breakfast and put her plate away, even though there were house elves to do so. It could have also been that she hadn’t gotten involved in any of the arguments that had broken out today and she hadn’t made any messes.

She believed that it was her mother’s way of telling her that she was noticed and that she loved her, just the same as the noisy kids who demanded her attention a lot of the time. Either way, Fauna could tell that her twin wasn’t pleased. They weren’t separated all that often and the last thing she wanted was for her sister to fall out with her.

A hug to their mama in thanks, Fauna was running after Flora as fast as she could go. She got to the park in time to see a little girl go running up to Flora and a smile tugged at her cheeks. It would be good to see Flora making friends that were actually kids and a younger one at that - she was sometimes a bit too mean for other children to handle. Fauna didn’t think she was mean though, just over dramatic sometimes.

Her legs couldn’t move fast enough to join the pair before she was nodding to the question of wanting to play whilst her twin denied it. “Sorry - she means yes, please. We’ll think of a game that’s fun for you and us, and so Flora won’t get her dress dirty either. Okay?” Her hand went out for the younger girl as her other one linked the arm of her sister.
