Biography: (100 words minimum.)

1958,
early summer

It had been a while since all three of them were home. When Arthur was at school, she was left living here with their mother, but the school year was over so her older brother would be home for a short while until he headed to summer camp. It meant that she was perpetually begging for his attention.

They had been drawing together on the floor of Arthur's room, although Arthur had wandered out briefly and when she managed to break the tip of her red pencil, Marlene was alone. She'd seen where her brother kept his pencils though, so she decided to start looking for a pencil sharpener in the boxes under his bed. The first one she opened just had a bunch of clothes and she quickly tossed it aside; the box below it did have what she was looking for, buried between odd items that were nothing like anything she'd ever seen. But she didn't pick up the sharpener, because while Marlene did not have a lot of life experience, she knew a magic wand when she saw one!

Marlene waved it through the air in front of her, mesmerised by its shape and feel. She felt like a proper fairy.

It didn't take long for her to start pointing it at stuff around the room. Eventually she twirled, giggling "Poof!" and the stick obeyed, creating a bright flash and a cloud of smoke where she aimed as the wand itself fell to the floor in pieces. Unharmed but shocked, she let go of the splinters that remained, and ran down the hallway yelling loudly for her brother. She didn't understand what she'd done, or how it was her fault. She just knew she had to apologise.

Only around two months later Marlene was walking through emptied rooms, after the decorations and belongings once on display had been packed into a few suitcases that should never be able to contain all of it. Yet it was in there, from their clothes and their towels to the desks and the couches. Even the piano that she loved to play, albeit rather poorly, was somehow in there.

It was possible, because her mother was a witch. And so was she. So as she'd been told, they were keeping themselves safe by moving to a more magical part of the world. It was odd seeing the house like this, but she could not wait.

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Marlene was running through the Hogsmeade streets as quickly as she could manage, only occasionally slowing down to check whether she was still on the right path and also to catch her breath. It was the first time that she was visiting the park all on her own, but by now she knew the way. And since the weather was relatively nice today, she wanted to spend as much time there as she could.

It hadn't been that long since they had moved here. Marlene, however, already felt at home, moving had been okay with her. She didn't have a lot of possessions, and hadn't left much behind. One thing she couldn't have brought along though, were her friends. Of course they had moved to a magical world and that was a big secret, so she would never been able to tell them, and they would never be able to visit her. She understood that. She also missed them constantly.

At least she'd had good luck so far with finding replacement friends. When she got to the park, though, she frowned as she looked around; it seemed that none of them were here today. Disappointing, for sure, but it was okay. She'd just explore a bit on her own, surely they would show up soon. And with that attitude, she started looking around.

It did not take Marlene long to find the brooms flying overhead. She stared after them, completely awestruck - those were people, and they were flying straight through the park. It was so magical that she didn't see the smaller broom lower down, at least not until she heard the girl shouting.

Want to play? Of course she did.

"Yes!" she called excitedly, "What is that thing?"
