Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Remiel and his twin didn't have the best upbringing as the only living children of Diana and Jacob Cooper.

Despite owning the family bar in Hogsmeade, the family struggled to make ends meet. It wasn't entirely the fault of theirs, but because they were unwilling to change with the time. They liked to see their regulars come in to get the same drink and food they had been doing since before the twins were born. It would eventually be the death of the business, but of course, Diana and Jacob would see no reason, especially from the kids. Their father passed away tragically in 1960, leaving Diana to take care of their small family. She worked long hours at bar and expected her children to do the same during each break, never leaving them to the care of the castle, but instead helping out.

Remiel would have graduated Hogwarts in 1967, but the matriarch met her untimely death with dragonpox in 1965. That left Remiel to take over the family's business, and doing whatever he could to make it work. After dropping out, El encouraged his twin sister to continue her education so she could go on to have a proper adulthood, something he had came to terms with not having. Even when his parents were alive, it was known he would one day inherit the bar and would be expected to run it when his parents wanted to retire. Unfortunately, life didn't always go to plan and he was obligated to continue their legacy.

Though he did enjoy revamping the aging business, El needed a break. He was looking for a partner to help run the business more effectively and help cover the costs to bring in more customers. Only time would tell if his ideas had worked or if he would fail miserably - one of his greatest fears. Because of his long hours, it was hard for him to date, but his sister had been pushing him to do so.

Maybe he would find the love of his life at his family's bar.

Nah. Probably not.

Option Two -
The snow had been falling steadily all morning and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Joshua Campbell scrunched his face up in a frown as he lifted his gaze to look to the sky. Snow. It really was quite a bother.

And it certainly didn't make it better that Diagon Alley seemed to be getting more and more crowded. Joshua sighed and pointed his wand at the large box that was currently placed on the doorstep of his shop. He had to get going. He had an order to deliver.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" The elderly man muttered and watched the box hover in the air for a moment. Honestly, did St. Mungo's really need that much tinsel? And with glitter of all things? He sighed again. If it hadn't been for the rather convincing stamp on the order, he would have been likely to believe it had been a prank by one of those orphaned rascals living up there.

Oh well, there was no point in waiting. Joshua deftly stirred the box down the doorstep and out onto the street, carefully levitating it above the heads of the crowd.

"Coming through! Coming through!" His voice sounded over the chatter of the crowd. "Keep out! Move ahead! Go on!" This was going way too slow. People were in the way and walking like they had all day! He huffed. Luckily the road was down hill.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!" Joshua let out a loud shout as his feet suddenly slipped in the snow and sent him, the box, and several long strands of tinsel tumbling into the person who had been walking in front of him.

"For Merlin's sake!" Joshua muttered angrily as he hurried to his feet again, red and gold tinsel now decorating his black coat. "I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" He looked apologetic at the person he had crashed into.

Roleplay Response:
Snow was truly an abomination from an evil source.

No one could convince El otherwise, not even his twin who seemed to adore the snow. And yet despite his distaste for the icy weather, the show had to go on. El had to run a few errands, grab a couple things for both his home and for his business. It was very rare that he had any free time to himself, something the young man had been accustomed to over the past couple of years.

Following the crowd of passerbys, El scanned the shopfronts, searching for his favorite coffee place. But a sudden push forward towards the ground caught him completely offguard. Once El collected him, just narrowly missing a faceplant, he brushed off his shoulders with a strained smile. “No worries. Snow is vicious.”

Biography: (100 words minimum.)
Miriam is the eldest of 3 children born to the only son of an English genteel pureblood farming family and the youngest daughter of an aristocratic Italian pureblood dynasty.

Miriam, her brother (Richard, 6), sister (Henrietta, 2), mother (Olivetta, 35) and father (Lucretius, 37) all lived together in the Villa Siriaca in Tuscany until a month ago. Olivetta always said she only married Lucretius because her father was going to give him the villa overlooking Florence, which was her favourite house. However, since Lucretius planted a vineyard when his wife was pregnant with Miriam and turned the villa into a place of business, they've argued constantly. Every time her mother wanted to host a party, Miriam's father would shout about it being a waste of time and money, and Olivetta would retaliate by saying the ballroom was going to waste.

When Lucretius' mother died in January, Miriam's mother announced her intention of moving to England and keeping house for her father-in-law. Her husband didn't argue, he agreed and helped make the plans. So, now Miriam, Richard, Henrietta and their mother are living with Grandpa Tristan in Devon and Miriam doesn't know how often she'll see her father; he never took them to visit grandma and grandpa very often, not like Mama taking them to visit Nonno Antonio and Nonna Grazia.

Miriam's English governess and the family's Italian cook both refused to make the move to Devon, only Henrietta's French nanny came with them. Olivetta is still trying to find someone to educate her two older children but, for the time being, Miriam spends her days following her mother around, sewing whatever her mother gives her to sew, reading whatever passage her mother orders her to read and riding the pony her grandfather gave her whenever her mother instructs her to go outside.

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
Miriam looked up from the daisy-chain she was making in surprise. However, before she could focus on the other girl her attention was caught by what appeared to be a miniature broom sticking out of the ground. Miriam frowned; Grandpa Tristan said that good girls didn't ride brooms, that she would have to wait until she became a young lady. She had tried to ask how she would know she was a young lady but grandpa had gotten all red in the face, like daddy did when he was angry, and told her to ask her mother.

It suddenly occurred to her that the strange girl had asked her something and she had been frowning at the girl's broom ever since.
"Awfully sorry," she said, trying to sound English as possible. "I don't remember being introduced. I'm Miriam Calvert. My grandfather owns the big house... over there." She gestured widely in the direction of the path that Wren had brought her down. "What was your name?" she asked before turning her eyes back down to the daisy chain.

She was hoping to make it big enough to get it over Wren's head without the pony eating it. Miriam thought the pinkish white petals would look like pretty stars against the Dartmoor pony's burgundy coat. She wished ponies would look at flowers and think 'pretty', not 'yum'.

"Where's your pony?" she asked the other girl, abruptly, after realising that she had only seen the toy-broom. "I'm sure Wren would love to play with your pony." The girl had said something about playing, hadn't she? "She and Toffee are always playing when me and Riccardo are stuck inside being productive." Miriam flushed red as she realised what she had done, looking up to gauge the other girl's reaction to her mistake. "I mean, Richard. He's my brotherino. Do you have any brothers or sisters?"

Lysander, Salazar, Bedwyr

Biography: (100 words minimum.)
14 February 1967
I am ten years old. It is a big responsibility. I promise forever and ever to do the right thing. Like Galahad. I don't always know the right thing because I'm still little and learning. I'm not big and clever like Galahad. It's okay to be little and learning. It is not okay to do the wrong thing.
*****
I went and I asked Mother what to do when I didn't know what the right thing is. She said 'Do your best, Stormy'. That's good advice. Maybe one day I'll be clever enough to know how to use it. Then we went to the sitting room and she read to me from her new book of poems. Then we did the day's numbers. I'm getting kind of good at numbers now. It's all because of her. I have a really good mum.
*****
I went and asked Father the same question as from before. He said that when I don't know, I should "Be patient. Wait until you know what you're doing". He said a lot more after that but I couldn't write quick enough to remember it all. Lots of stuff about responsibility. We have a reputation. Father knows all that stuff like the back of his hand so he's real good at saying it. One day I'll be patient enough to live up to the Oceanus reputation.
*****
For lunch Rilgo cut up a whole bunch of fruits. I ate so much apricots. My belly hurts and I'm laying by the stream. After I went silly last month I'm not allowed to be by the water on my own anymore. Rilgo's watching me. He's got big orders to take me to my room if I put even a little toe in the water. He doesn't have to worry. I learned my lesson. Besides, I'm a big kid now. I am responsible.
*****
Dinner was good. The Hammermeisters and Brosnans don't have kids so I didn't talk during dinner. Mr. Brosnan told Father he was impressed by my maturity. I grinned so big I nearly cracked my face in two. It took a bit to settle my face back to normal. I didn't understand the conversation apart from that. Lots of stuff about the ministry and import duties and something about Algeria. That's in Africa. Rilgo made roast goose and my belly hurts again.
*****
I have to be in bed in five minutes so this will be my last birthday entry. Father took me to the observatory and let me look through his silver telescope. Stars are cool. Tomorrow I'm going to write him a letter telling him how grateful I am to have a dad like him. I will have to do it before breakfast because I have another big day tomorrow. It was a good birthday and I am very lucky.
-Stormy Oceanus

Roleplay Response:
They locked eyes. The girl seemed to vibrate with all sorts of enthusiastic energy. She had things she wanted.

"You!"

"Me!" Stormy tossed back playfully. His hands assaulted the air as if he were shocked to discover he were himself.

"...Do you want to play?"

"Do I want to play?" He scanned the lightglossed space. It didn't look like any quidditch field he'd seen. He thought for only a moment.

He wanted to read, or stitch, or do some herbcraft. He wanted to stare at the clouds. He wanted to get so good at gobstones that a person from the Prophet took his picture. He wanted so many things, including the knowledge of what the girl was playing and whether she was nice.

"I do want to play." Why should he attempt to conceal the surprise in his voice? He hadn't known he wanted to play until she'd asked and he'd thought. "Do you have spare broom?"

Biography: (100 words minimum.)
The second born son to Lewis and Lucy Baker, Kit hasn’t exactly had the best upbringing. Born into poverty, Kits primary understanding of life is the objective is to… Well, not be poor. As such, school, with its lack of monetary earnings, is something he does not take seriously, instead choosing to consider his time better spent trying to figure out how to increase how much gold he has. Free spirited, smart mouthed, and a bit too clever for his own good, Kit tends to try to look out for his siblings when he can, as their unfortunate situation has led them to being fairly close. He doesn't have a great relationship with his parents, although he is somewhat sympathetic towards his mother.

Roleplay Response:

Kit wasn’t in the mood to do much today. For a number of reasons really, one major reason being that he was starving. He’d been out later than usual last night with some friends and missed whatever his siblings had scrounged up. Truth be told, he couldn’t wait to get back to school and get some decent food. For all his affection towards his brother, he was a lousy chef.

Leaning against the tree, eyes semi closed in relaxation, Kit enjoyed the nice day. Maybe tonight he-

Scratch that, some pint-sized child was shouting at him. There went his peace.

But he also knew the value of other people. Namely, that other people had things that he wanted. And right now, he wanted food. And if this child was going to serve as the conduit to that goal.. Well by all means, he’d play whatever she wanted.
“Sure. I don’t have a broom though, but if you want I can toss a quaffle high in the air and you can try to catch it.” Or whatever, hopefully she’d say it was a stupid idea and give him a sandwich.

Kit loved sandwiches.

Biography: (100 words minimum.)
Cordelia's past seemed full of mysery. Her Parents died long before she was able to remember them and her Aunt Agitha was the closest thing to a parent she has had. Her aunt while attentive was never the most loving, but Cordelia never did want much for anything. Her aunt supplied all except maybe affection. The one thing her aunt did impress on young Cordelia is that she was a Von Stein, and that was very important for some reason. The reason was never given, but it was implied. She also had overheard her aunt discuss her disgust for Cordlia's birth mother. "Never understood why Albert would marry a muggle..." she would say. Cordelia never understood what that word was or what it meant, but from her aunt's tone even though the word sounded silly it certainly wasn't.

As the years passed Cordelia was left to her own devices many a time and found solace in the books in her aunt's library. She found the books made her happy and loved to read. She would read anything she could get her hands on. Books were like the family and friends she didn't have in her real life. Se dived into stories of knights and wizards and fantasy. It fascinated her and she longed for adventure in her real life. Little did she know that soon just 3 years later after she had turned 11 she would find out the fantasy was maybe not so fantastical

Cordelia's aunt was pleasantly surprised to learn that her niece was indeed magical. The muggle blood had not made the young girl into a squib like her. When the girl showed "signs of magic ability" Cordelia was shocked by the change in her aunt. She seemed suddenly warm and caring and she seemed relieved "You can do magic!" Agitha said to the young girl. "I was so worried you'd be like me, and all the other Von Stein women. We are all Squibs..." she trailed off while Cordelia gave her a strange look. "Von Stein women are what? Squids?" she said looking at her hands and imagining suckers growing there. "No dear girl, Squibs." She said emphasizing the B,  "Witches that can't use magic. Who would think muggle blood might fix that she said trailing off" Cordelia looked at her aunt her confusion turning to intrigue "What's a muggle?" she said curiously What could the word her aunt had used as what seemed to be an insult to her birth mother actually mean? "It means a non-magical person", Agitha said nonchalantly. "Anyway, we have to get you ready for Hogwarts!" Cordelia wasn't sure what this Hogwarts was, but she couldn't help and be as excited as her aunt.

Roleplay Response:
Magic was real?... Cordelia still couldn't seem to get her head around it, but once she had started to show signs of magic ability, much to her aunt's excitement, it had all come out. Her father had been a wizard, a particuarly good one from a family who had seemed to be full of cursed witches with the unfortunate inability to use magic. Apparently they were called squibs.

Cordelia didn't think the name too kind, but did think it sounded a bit silly for something her aunt conveyed such seriousness behind. Since learning that Cordelia seemed to be the first witch in years to be able to use magic she was already feeling pressure to prove herself. She had started right away turning to her old friends in the library, books. She had absorbed all the information about the magical world she could and it had lead her here, a place called Goddric Park where she could see other young witches and wizards at play.

Cordelia noticed some young boys flying on brooms and became entranced. She stared in awe at the boys flying on thier brooms she wondered if she ever might be able to do such a thing. She was shaken from here wonderings by the rather sharp voice of a young girl beckoning to her to play. She looked at the girl with a smile, "Who me? Why yes I'd love to. My name is Cordelia, but you can call me Cordi if you want!" she began, "What did you want to play?"

When responding to the RP sample, please do not powerplay the other character in any way. If in doubt about whether something constitutes powerplay, err on the side of caution and write something else!

Please also treat this sample as you would treat a real thread and leave your response open-ended to ensure the other character has a chance to respond. This means that your character should not walk away from or otherwise end the interaction in your response.
