Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Rosemary Niamh Wolffe

Birthday: 24th May 1952

Hometown: Llanwellyn, Gwynnedshire. Wales

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Charms

Year (pick two): First year (first choice); second year (second choice)

Biography:
Rosie’s family is a big one, full of warmth and love and support. Things are tough at the moment, Bonnie’s ailment the cause of this sudden tension to a previously easy family, but it’ll all be better soon — Rosie’s sure of it.

She’s not quite sure why she thinks that. Being a werewolf isn’t exactly temporary, it’s not going to go away in a couple days as long as Bonnie makes sure to take her medicine and rest up.

Most likely, it’s just that she hasn’t properly understood what happened yet. The explanation Edmund and Irma gave the younger Wolffes was simple, with as little detail as possible to it. The change in the way Bonnie and their parents acted was noticeable even to Rosie, who’d never been particularly perceptive, and yet it often felt as if these changes were separate to her — happening at a distance, like she was watching it on TV rather than experiencing it herself.

She liked the old normal more, so she’s just going to keep pretending nothing changed. There are other, more pleasant things to think about, things like Hogwarts, and all the new adventures that will come with that.

She’ll be joining her oldest sister Moira there this term. Moira’s bold, and fearless, and Rosie looks up to her immensely. Her other siblings — Juliet and Connor and Colin and Isabella —will follow in due course, and Rosie’s sure they’re all going to do as great as Moira’s no doubt been doing.

They’ve got big shoes to fill, with one parent a HeadBoy, the other a successful CEO. If one of the seven is going to fill them though, it’s probably not going to be Rosie.

House Request: either ravenclaw or gryffindor

Personality:
Rosemary Wolffe has never had any issues making friends. It’s easy to get swept up by this whirlwind of a girl; she’s warm and she’s friendly and her living-in-the-now spontaneity can be charming — if you don’t mind being dragged around a bit that is. You’ll very rarely find her alone because of it, and that’s lucky because she’s way too used to having other people to rely on, and the prospect of being alone is terrifying to her.

She’s curious about everything. The middle of the night is for peeling through random books on niche topics (that she never finishes). Every other second of the day is for trying new things; for adventures, and dumb ideas, and making new friends. She’s creative too, and she used to think this and her collection of useless facts made her pretty damn smart, except now she’s started to get the feeling that that’s probably not the case.

The truth is, Rosie is scatterbrained and illogical and rarely makes good decisions. She’s not bright, not a bit, and she’s too restless and too easily distracted to actually work hard to make up for it. Any perceived wisdom from this girl is purely based on her never ending optimism; her ability to see the good in absolutely everything and her open minded take on the world.

Appearance:
The most striking thing about Rosie is her hair. Bright red curls fall to just below her shoulders, usually unbrushed, always messy, occasionally done up in space buns, or plaits, or with ribbons and flowers tangled up between them. Her eyes are green, and her entire body is covered in freckles — but across the bridge of her nose particularly.

Rosie is not at the age at which she really cares about her appearance yet. She wears what she wears because she thinks the patterns are cool, or she likes the colours, or the fabric feels soft between her fingers. More brighter, bold prints are favoured, but accessories are inconvenient and rare. If she’s wearing shorts or a skirt, scraped knees and bruises on her legs from adventures are apparent. If she’s not, then there’s probably grass stains instead.

She owns a lot of makeup, courtesy of her mother’s company, but isn’t very good with it. As she grows older, this will (hopefully) change: she’s already demonstrated a growing interest in the idea of being able to paint on your eyelids, and 60s makeup trends are right up her alley.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Rosemary Wolffe was staring.

She'd been staring for a while now, watching this older boy trample the pretty flowers somebody must've taken great care to plant (a bit rude of him, that), and mutter to himself. He looked a bit crazy. She would've probably gone and fetched the Head Nurse by now if it weren't for the fact that she kind of intimidated Rosie.

"Can I help you with something?"

"Oh!"

An uneasy smile slid onto her face, not quite sure how to respond to the sudden hostility.

"No?" She gave a little laugh. "Sorry— do you? Want any help, that is."

Rosie picked through the wreckage of flowers and crouched down by the boy. She peered into the mess of red and pink and green, but if his rat was anywhere here, she couldn't see it.

"I'm Rosie, it's nice to meet you."

Head of Ravenclaw
schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning
waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile
I watch her go with a surge of that well-known sadness
and I have to sit down for a while
