Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name:
Arthur Darwin

Birthday:
16-07-1945

Hometown:
Skipsea, East Riding, England

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Transfiguration

Year (pick two):
First, Second

Biography:
Born to a pureblood mother and a muggle father, Arthur is the oldest of their two children, having only a younger sister. With connections to his mother's side of the family being basically non-existent and his father being an only child, Arthur only has a small, very close family.

Knowing that children aren't the best at keeping secrets, his mother kept her magical abilities hidden from him for most of his life. Arthur followed the Muggle education, had Muggle friends, and knew magic only from stories. After a work-related accident took his father, that changed: His mother, now left to care for a six- and a one year old mostly on her own, couldn't help using magic for convenience. Still, it took some years for Arthur to notice, and even after an explanation from his mother that yes, she was a witch (and that no, he could never tell his friends, not even his grandparents), he didn't realise the possibility of him having inherited these powers.

Of course, he had to find out eventually. It wasn't his mother who told him, because for all she knew her son might have turned out non-magical, and she didn't want to get her kid's hopes up. This meant that Arthur only found out after his first experience with accidental magic (which scared him witless, and he would have appreciated a warning). Still, the idea of him being capable of all these amazing things was a whole new level of exciting.

Now, he had his Hogwarts letter and everything he'd possibly need once he got over there (including an owl. What kind of boy had an owl? Him, that's who). Soon, he'd be able to go to this Magic School. He wasn't particularly smart, but he wasn't worried. He could change that, he could learn. He'd just do the best he could.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request:
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Personality:
Getting bored rather quickly when nothing is happening, Arthur is constantly looking for things to keep him busy. Lucky for him, he's also easily amused, which kinda helps combat that. His favourite thing is the sea, mostly because he grew up near it. His second favourite thing is the seal, because he saw them a few times, and it was good.

He has an opinion about everything, and would definitely share all of them with you if he weren't too shy to just throw it out there.

Arthur isn't particularly smart. He's very dedicated to anything he puts his mind to though, and is determined to do well in classes, so that could change soon enough...

Most days he'll be friendly to anyone and everyone, though in a very cautious way. Honestly he's just being polite. He likes being helpful, though! On his bad days, he just gets grumpy and angry and would prefer to be left alone, thanks.

He doesn't really like trying new things, but if you want him to join you on something that is new/stupid/scary to him, just kinda drag him into it and he will follow! (Again, too shy to protest?)

Appearance:
Arthur has a very average build, though lengthwise he's on the small side, which doesn't exactly help his confidence. His deep brown eyes and dark brown hair never failed to remind his mother of his father, and ever since she showed him that it was possible, he wishes daily that he could use his own magic to make his hair behave. It would certainly save him some time in the morning... Arthur loves bright colours, which leads to him wearing those whenever possible (he finds those school robes horribly dull).

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Arthur was sitting on the grass in the gardens with a small pile of books at his feet, trying to utilise the time between breakfast and classes to at least get that list of colour names for Transfiguration in his head. It was going pretty well, really. He almost had it down. But not quite.

He sat there, eyes closed, his hands resting on the page he was trying to memorise, his lips making the silent mumbling motions for the beginning of his answer, though never finishing the word. Au, au, no wait, ar...

His eyes blinked open when his ears caught the sound of heavy footsteps and plants rustling, leaving him somewhat annoyed when his gaze found the answer in the book before he was able to remember it on his own. Argenteus. Obviously.

Arthur carefully placed the opened book beside him, staring at the older student. What was he even doing here? He seemed to be looking for something. Maybe someone? Arthur stood up to better see what was going on, saw the other student wiping his nose, and was spotted shortly after.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Staring wasn't polite, he could agree with the other boy on that. Still, the way he was spoken to left him speechless and staring for a little longer, while he contemplated what to do. His first reaction would have been something like 'Your tone isn't polite' or 'You're talking manners after doing that?', but he didn't know this person at all, didn't have the courage to say that back to an older student, and wasn't even currently looking to make enemies. Friends, however... He put on a friendly smile, trying to dismiss the attitude he'd just received.

"Nah, I'm good." said Arthur, "But uh, what about you? You look like you could use a hand."
