Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.
Name: Lawrence Ignatius Mallory, goes by his middle name.

Birthday: 10/31/1931

Hometown: Rye, East Sussex

Bloodline: Muggleborn

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Transfiguration

Year (pick two): 5/6

Biography:
Mister and Misses Mallory were two muggles lucky enough to win the lottery in having an all-magical litter of children. They were surprised (to say the least) when it first happened, and if they were ever asked just exactly how they were never really able to give an answer because they were never really sure. But it started with their eldest, Russell, and when James popped up 7 years later they were wrong thinking the first magical baby had been a fluke. So when Ig—born one year after James—started showing signs of magical abilities as well, the two parents were well versed in what to do at that point.

However, on that odd night the Warp hit, the Mallorys were not spared from having their little family torn apart. It left Ig suddenly parentless at only six years of age, unsure of what was going on but thankful he had his brothers, and together the three of them survived. Orphanages started to become the new normal, and as time goes on Ig has started to realize the few memories of his parents he has left are just the stories Russ tells and retells the youngest brother on the numerous nights when Ig can’t sleep.

Now, at twelve, Ig has found a home as a Slytherin at Hogwarts. Being of the quiet variety of student, it had been hard to make friends right away… But that was fine. He’d always been a bit of a loner anyway. And even though Russ had left them for life as a soldier as soon as he had graduated, James was still around to steal the food off Ig’s plate. As long as the two of them stuck together, with Hogwarts to fill up the school year and camp to occupy their summers, they would never have to go back to that damned Children’s Home. They would be fine.

House Request: Slytherin

Personality: Ig would be probably be classified as a generally unhappy camper; he sees things as half-empty rather than half-full, mulls over the dreadful, doesn't smile much. People would call him unhappy but truly he is apathetic, and doesn't care to put on a mask for others. He rolls with the punches, accepts and moves on; things Happen and he observes because there isn't much that Ig cares about-- except for his brothers. His brothers are the world to him, because they raised him, took care of him when the world threw them away, and it's with them that Ig generally shines the brightest. Panic attacks are regular occurrences, and insomnia plagues the youngest Mallory's every night, weighing him down, causing him to look and feel perpetually tired, maybe even a little slow moving/thinking as if contemplating the heaviest idea. When he can't sleep he reads whatever he can pick up, which has led him to become rather intelligent. He craves knowing more and being more than what people think he his capable of-- not that he cares, of course.

Appearance: Thin, lanky, almost-sickly looking scarecrow boy.

It was another one of those evenings where he just felt restless. He'd paced the path from dorm door to bathroom at least thirty-five times. When that ended up not being enough, he paced the hallway with all of the dorms, from the seventh years to the common room forty-eight times. Realizing that that wasn't going to be good enough either, he took to the hallways; maybe losing himself among the widing stone walls would keep his mind occupied enough.

And then he heard something. A voice.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The words echoed down the hall he'd just turned into, from a shadow he could just see more darkly than the others, and he stopped in his tracks. Ig had been thirteen when It had happened-- when Emma Birch had been killed. He hadn't really known the older girl, but... His head tilted slightly and he took a tentative step forward.

If Ig'd been more mischievous, if he had been James or maybe Kennedy or Clinton, he would have taken the opportunity to give off a wailing noise and pretend to be the girl's ghost.... because surely that was what this living being was looking for. He was not, however, that mischievous, and he could already hear Kennedy's exasperated sigh at his misuse of a perfect prank opportunity.

"You're looking in the wrong place," Ig observed as he continued his walk up to a young girl. His hands shoved deep in his pockets, he looked at her simply, not mocking or denying her inquisition because it was perfectly logical that one would start their search where she'd have a strong connection, "She died in Ravenclaw tower, where the old Transfiguartion classroom used to be. You'd might have better luck there."

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
One foot stepped in front of the other, an endless series of steps that led him on and on, until suddenly his dropped line of sight watched his beaten old shoes press into emerald grass. He hadn't been paying attention to where he was going, really; he had just been fueled with a need to get out.

But what could one do when they didn't have money to go to a shop or diner? Or when one's only friends were their own brothers... both of which were not available at the present?

Thin shoulders slumped in thought as he squinted out over the horizon, at families and clumps of children laughing and playing in the beaming summer sun. So involved in his observation of the scenes in front of him, Ig completely missed the sound of someone coming up behind him.

"You!"

Ig jumped at the sudden bark, turning to stare widely at a girl he'd never seen before.

"...Do you want to play?"

It wasn't an offer he got often.

"S-Sure?" He stammered, but then looked down at the toy she held and frowned slightly, "I... don't have a broom though. Is that-- Is that a problem?"

He and his brother's had never been able to afford one, but that wasn't something he was about to tell the girl.

"I'm Ig, by the way."
