Blanche Marchen

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
He remembers a father with hair black as night, arms made of stone, and a smile which could cleave through the darkness of night.

He remembers a sister whose face was as pink as an apple, whose laughter was so contagious that it could bring a depressed man to a smile.

And then, they were gone.

The time warp ripped Ryan's family apart, and in turn, took away his mother's smiles and songs. From the tender age of four, he had known loss and neglect. Delirious and in denial, Evangeline neglected her surviving son to the care of others, to mourn her husband and her baby. Thus Ryan grew under the supervision of neighbouring ladies, never receiving the affection a child ought to from his mother.

Times were hard, and Evangeline barely made enough to feed her son and herself. It raised tensions between them, and the boy distanced himself even more from her. This helped mould him into an independent person, one capable of braving the streets of his neighbourhood at the age of seven.

The letter arrived, as expected, shortly after his eleventh birthday. Evangeline smiled genuinely for the first time since the time warp when he showed her the letter. It was sad perhaps, that the mother and son reconciled only when he was about to leave, but Ryan stayed optimistic, enjoying the moment as his mother took him to Diagon Alley for the first time.

The head bloody screamed Slytherin after barely touching his hair. Ambition, they said, but as far was he was concerned, he didn't have any. The young Slytherin shaped up to be quite a troublemaker, but he wasn't as good at getting out of trouble. Some of his charades have given him burnt hair, bruised faces, and a few broken fingers. Nevertheless, he wears these scars like badges and retells the stories with enthusiasm.

His time at Hogwarts wasn't entirely pointless though. Through a stroke of luck and some skill, he lifted the Quidditch cup in his fourth year, and was subsequently named co-captain the following year. However, his lack of leadership skills and ambition led to the downfall of the team. He resigned from his postion and quit completely after the disaster.

He finished school without flying colours, and returned home to find an ailing mother. Winter had not been kind, and pneumonia swept through her like a knife through butter. She passed away only a few weeks after he returned.

Sadness and guilt overwhelmed him. A disappointment of a son. A failure. These words clouded his head as the funeral edged near. Although he had expected a quiet reception, he was thoroughly mistaken as the event was filled with people all bearing the same family name.

His mother's maiden name.

Under the fake tears and meaningless condolences, his maternal grandfather offered to let him bear their name, and to help him financially should the need arise. It boiled his blood to see all these people, only coming to offer help when it was already too late. These people, who ignored his mother for marrying a muggle instead of enduring a loveless marriage.

But he had nothing to his name. No money, and no home if the Kennards are allowed to have their way. Swallowing his pride, he looked deep into his grandfather's eyes, and nodded.

Roleplay:

Option Two -
The snow had been falling steadily all morning and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Joshua Campbell scrunched his face up in a frown as he lifted his gaze to look to the sky. Snow. It really was quite a bother.

And it certainly didn't make it better that Diagon Alley seemed to be getting more and more crowded. Joshua sighed and pointed his wand at the large box that was currently placed on the doorstep of his shop. He had to get going. He had an order to deliver.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" The elderly man muttered and watched the box hover in the air for a moment. Honestly, did St. Mungo's really need that much tinsel? And with glitter of all things? He sighed again. If it hadn't been for the rather convincing stamp on the order, he would have been likely to believe it had been a prank by one of those orphaned rascals living up there.

Oh well, there was no point in waiting. Joshua deftly stirred the box down the doorstep and out onto the street, carefully levitating it above the heads of the crowd.

"Coming through! Coming through!" His voice sounded over the chatter of the crowd. "Keep out! Move ahead! Go on!" This was going way too slow. People were in the way and walking like they had all day! He huffed. Luckily the road was down hill.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!" Joshua let out a loud shout as his feet suddenly slipped in the snow and sent him, the box, and several long strands of tinsel tumbling into the person who had been walking in front of him.

"For Merlin's sake!" Joshua muttered angrily as he hurried to his feet again, red and gold tinsel now decorating his black coat. "I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" He looked apologetic at the person he had crashed into.

Roleplay Response:

Ryan ran his hand through his hair, readjusted the scarf around his neck, and sighed. Snow. It's a wonder how the tiny specks could be so beautiful and irritating at the same time. It didn't help that Diagon Alley was so crowded either. Packed in like sardines, with snow covering the street, movement was almost impossible.

Diagon Alley did bring back nostalgic memories. It was here that he acquired his first wand (and the second one too), his first cauldron (and the second, third and fourth ones) and his first set of robes. Of course, they were now stuffed in a corner somewhere back home, unloved and forgotten.

His train of thought was interrupted when he heard a loud shout from behind. Out of reflex, he turned around to look, and immediately regretted it, as he was showered in glittering tinsel and knocked flat on his  behind. Swearing under his breath, he got up back on his feet and looked at the man who had tumbled into him.

"Yes, this blasted snow..." he said after hearing his apology, his eyes fixed the man's face. After a short while though, he looked away and surveyed the area around them, and sighed. The man probably had not been paying attention to where he was going.

Spreading his arms wide to indicate the mess around them, he said, with a strained smile plastered on his face, "Well, I suppose... you'll be needing a hand with all this."

Hi, Ryan!

Your app looks good so far, I just want to draw your attention to our new rules for castle dropouts. As Ryan has previously been played at the castle, he is not eligible to automatically 'bump up' his levels to Elsewhere Adult levels.

Instead, you're allowed to claim 2 levels for every term that you didn't claim levels until graduation. Ryan's level request shows you only claimed levels for 4th year, so you're allowed to claim +2 levels for Ryan's 5th, 6th, and 7th years, which is a total of 6 extra levels.

If you could let us know below where you'd like to add these (they still need to remain balanced), then we can get you (re)accepted as soon as possible. Thanks!
