CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character name: Charlene Kingston

Previous and/or Current Character(s) if applicable: Alice Swan & Pandora St Oswald

Character age: 30, 22nd March ‘29

Character education:
Hogwarts Slytherin Alumni, Class of 1947
  • Volunteer at the Hospital Wing as a Nurse (1940-1944)
  • Volunteer at the Hospital Wing as an Apothecary (1944-1947)
  • Participated in the Duelling Club (1940-1947)
  • Played in the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team (1940-1947)
Ministry of Magic, Auror (1947-Present)

Strength and weaknesses (details please): Charlie has studied long and hard to be powerful in specific spheres of magic related to her work as an Auror. She has a high affinity with Charms, especially with spells used for duelling like offensive and defensive spells. Transfiguration and Potions are both domains of magic she is comfortable with. On the other hand, Divination and Summoning and Conjuring are two subjects she didn't particularly focussed in, therefore being less comfortable with those types of magic.

Personality wise, Charlie is a very strong headed woman, which can be cause of conflict when no one sees her way. However, it can also be powerful aspect of her personality because it drives her ambition and determination. She's also more of a lone wolf, trusting herself more than anyone else. Despite this, her line of work has made her work with other people and she has no problem with that. The confidence she has in her abilities will enable to teach with no worries. As an Auror, Charlie has learned to prone justice and authority. She’s a very hard worker, always does what she’s asked and does her job with great dignity.

Physical description: At first sight, Charlene can seem like a rather intimidating person—and you're right to think so. 5'10", this woman stands tall and often accentuates her height by wearing boots with at least a two-inch heel. Her skin color is a rich mix of her father's Caucasian white and her mother's African black. Charlie enjoys styling her hair in many ways. Her dark brown hair is currently flowing like waves down to her shoulders, but don't be surprised if she arrives next class with a drastically different hair style. There are a few scars around her body from fights, duels or adventures gone wrong (like the scar of her right calf: a result of a miscalculation that caused her leg to graze a rock when she jumped off a waterfall). The most obvious one is on the right side of her face, right on top of her jawline, going across her neck and ending just below her left collarbone, a constant reminder of the lost of her brother. Finally, Charlie keeps her clothing style rather simple. If she's not in a classic blouse and jeans combo, she can be found wearing a nice suit or a flowy jumpsuit.

Personality (nice, rude, funny etc. Paragraph please.): Joyful, ecstatic, adventurous and bubbly were words previously used to describe Charlene Kingston. Today, traits like introverted, quiet, cold and serious were better employed when one talked about the woman. Charlie prefers being alone because she knows that she won't be able to hurt anyone in this case. One can often find her reading quietly in a lonesome corner, barely lifting her head to any sound unless they trigger her interest. Despite this built-in loneliness, the woman will never shy away from a conversation. She’s comfortable around people and talking to others, even if she might not be the first one to approach them. However, with great rationality and logic comes an awful sense of humor. Charlie isn’t the kind to joke around, being the direct person that she is, and don’t expect her to understand sarcasm and in-between the line jokes. She just. Doesn’t get them.

Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?: Charlene considers a job as a professor very dearly. Every day she longs to be as passionate and empathic as her brother, his brilliant qualities noticeable by anyone who crossed his path. He had an easiness with people; he could easily trust them and vice-versa. One step to acquiring those traits is for her to become who he wanted to be, a shared passion they both have: a mentor, a tutor, a teacher.

Other than this search for aspiration, Charlie has an infinite love for knowledge. Even out of Hogwarts, she dove deep into learning more about magic and how to develop her skills further. This admiration for learning is something she wishes to transcend to students. With everything that has happened at Hogwarts, Charlie considers that students aren’t protected enough, and that they’re perhaps not taught sufficiently on how to defend themselves. With her current job as an Auror, she feels not only that she can offer her knowledge to the students, but that she can herself learn from the experience and grow from it, not just magically, but mentally as well.

Biography (500 words minimum. There is never such a thing as too much.):
Lucas Kingston met Jada Kwame in 1920 when he traveled from England to Africa to teach English. Believe whatever you wish about love at first sight, but once these two souls crossed paths, they knew they were destined to be together. It wasn’t long before the couple got married and had their first child in July 1923, Emmanuel Kingston. Almost six years later, on March 22, Charlene Kingston was born.

Charlene, commonly known as Charlie (or Charles, a lovely nickname her brother often used to annoy her), had a loving childhood with her family. They left Africa when she was four years old to go back in England. Not too long after their move, Emmanuel received his Hogwarts letter which introduced the Muggle parents to the wizarding community (and also caused their worries to dissipate once they realized that it was normal for all the times their boy had produced strange things).

Charlie couldn’t wait for her own letter to arrive. In the meantime, she spent her childhood being homeschooled by her mother, and following her father in his trips abroad to teach English in international schools. Her parents’ love for teaching and knowledge had tainted on her and little Charlie would often find herself buried in books learning about every single thing she could about the muggle and the magical world.

Finally, at the age of eleven, Charlie received her Hogwarts later and she was off to Hogwarts. She was sorted into Slytherin for her determination and ambition, but she might as well could have been a Gryffindor for her courage, a Ravenclaw for her wisdom and a Hufflepuff for her kindness. Nevertheless, she was proud of her house and she quickly dove into learning magic, making friends and sharing her first year with her brother’s last one at Hogwarts.

It was in the summer of 1944 that her whole life turned around. With the creation of the Hexenreich and their rule afoot, terror reigned in the streets of London. When out at Diagon Alley, a violent dispute broke between partisans of Hexenreich and other wizards. Charlie was pushed into the whole raucous along with her brother. It all happened so fast: one second, a swing of silver struck at her neck, the next Emmanuel was fighting off the man who had hurt the innocent girl, and finally, a green flash of light and the lifeless body of her brother.

Charlie was never the same after that event. The spark of joy that always trailed her suddenly disappeared. She became cold, distant and driven to become wiser and stronger to defend herself. She isolated herself from others, spent any free time she had to train herself to become not only physically powerful, but magically as well. Before, she would play in the Slytherin Quidditch team for fun. Now, she played for competition and to win. Before, she participated in duelling simply to practice her skills. Now, she did it to use her abilities to the fullest and to beat the others. Before, she volunteered at the Hospital Wing as a nurse. Now, she preferred the closed off apothecary.

Once she graduated of Hogwarts, she very quickly applied at the Ministry of Magic to be an auror. Nothing was more important to her than protect people, to fight off the evil, and to bring justice. It was also at that moment that her parents announced that they were leaving to go back to Africa in order to escape to the hectic situation in London. Charlie simply couldn’t leave. She had a goal: become an Auror and defend the good people.

Ever since they left, Charlie was to tackle the world by herself. Twelve years later, she was still alone. She would always be so without her brother.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
(Please respond to this in third person past tense. Do not write the other characters' reactions. Only your own.)

It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with various odds and ends, with a place of honor for the Sorting Hat, and the walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses.

In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order, for the current occupant had always despised a messy desk. It was the sign of a messy mind, and she had always favored neatness.

A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.

Along with order, Anneka valued punctuality. She was a very busy woman these days. Even during the summer, she had a number of matters to attend to. Interviewing and hiring staff was only of those matters. The newest potential member of her staff wasn't making a good impression.

She paced the room, black heels clicking against the stone floor. When the door finally opened, Anneka turned, her expression reminiscent of a Russian winter. "You are late."

Explain yourself was what her face said.

Roleplay Response:
Charlene Kingston valued punctuality just as much as justice and the law, if possible. She was always ten minutes early to meetings and appointments, and always the first one to be at her office in the morning.

That was why this morning when Charlie didn't leave at the time she had planned to, she shook with anxiety.

It was all because of the damn cat. Everything was set on the table, all ready for the next morning. She had woken up feeling confident and relaxed, had dressed into the suit she bought uniquely for this opportunity and had coiffed brown curls perfectly to hang just above her shoulders. Everything was going according to schedule until she walked into the kitchen and saw ripped parchment sprawled all over the kitchen table.

It took her all morning to write all the lessons plans over again. The quill had never scribbled so fast against the paper, her knuckled turning white with all the pressure she was putting on it. Black ink droplets colored the white marble's surface, but it was no time to clean up. It was way past the scheduled time of departure and with each ticking minute, her heart crashed harder against her ribcage.

She finally arrived at the Headmistress' office after a few wrong turns and confusing herself with the bloody staircases. Before stepping in, she slowly took in a big deep breath to calm her nerves and her heartbeat.

The sight of the Headmistress' face was enough to summon back all her anxieties.

"My apologies. I promise this is not a habit of mine." She stayed in place, waiting for a signal from the woman to move forward. Considering this was her one and only shot at this opportunity, Charlie, always so respectful of authority, approached the Headmistress. "I am here to present you my lesson plans. I would love to show them to you. I promise it will not be a waste of your time."

Option Two -
The snow had been falling steadily all morning and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Joshua Campbell scrunched his face up in a frown as he lifted his gaze to look to the sky. Snow. It really was quite a bother.

And it certainly didn't make it better that Diagon Alley seemed to be getting more and more crowded. Joshua sighed and pointed his wand at the large box that was currently placed on the doorstep of his shop. He had to get going. He had an order to deliver.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" The elderly man muttered and watched the box hover in the air for a moment. Honestly, did St. Mungo's really need that much tinsel? And with glitter of all things? He sighed again. If it hadn't been for the rather convincing stamp on the order, he would have been likely to believe it had been a prank by one of those orphaned rascals living up there.

Oh well, there was no point in waiting. Joshua deftly stirred the box down the doorstep and out onto the street, carefully levitating it above the heads of the crowd.

"Coming through! Coming through!" His voice sounded over the chatter of the crowd. "Keep out! Move ahead! Go on!" This was going way too slow. People were in the way and walking like they had all day! He huffed. Luckily the road was down hill.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!" Joshua let out a loud shout as his feet suddenly slipped in the snow and sent him, the box, and several long strands of tinsel tumbling into the person who had been walking in front of him.

"For Merlin's sake!" Joshua muttered angrily as he hurried to his feet again, red and gold tinsel now decorating his black coat. "I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" He looked apologetic at the person he had crashed into.

Roleplay Response:
She didn’t want to leave the comfort of her apartment. The big gray couch clearly too big for one seemed suddenly more comfortable than it had looked a few minutes ago, the fleece blanket looked warmer and warmer the longer brown eyes stared at it, and she could almost here the fire crackling whispering her name. Albeit the temptation of sitting in front of the warm fireplace and the very real callings of the very unanimated objects, Charlene took her coat and left the building.

It wasn’t like her to venture outside when there were enough people for them to stomp on each other’s feet. The woman preferred more quiet environments, ones where she wouldn’t feel like a stranger would request her attention and where she would feel like her personal space was respected. Diagon Alley, unfortunately, was far from being serene and calm. She hoped, as she carefully dodged a crowd of people randomly stopping in the middle of the street, that the bookstore would avail to be less crowded. After all, she did go out just to purchase a book.

Charlie was pulled away from her thoughts when someone’s shoulder bumped into hers. She looked behind her, hoping to hear an apology from the person, but instead was met by a loud shout. She barely had the time to turn around that she was faced with a man and a box coming right at her. Before she had the chance to react, Charlie crashed to the ground with the man and the box.

”I am so sorry! This blasted snow!”

The woman rose a hand to her head and met the soft strips of… tinsel? She brushed away the material and rose to her feet, merely nodding toward the man as a sign of accepting his apology. Brown hues looked at the mess surrounding her and the poor man, bright red and gold colors contrasting against the white snow. “Do you need any help?”, Charlie asked as she pulled out a wand and gestured to the sprawled tinsel.
