Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Alfrida Sunneva Darwin

Birthday: August 16th

Hometown: Derbyshire, England

Bloodline: Muggleborn

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two):
First or Second

Biography:

The elders could stare at her all they wanted, Alfrida was not going to eat her brussel sprouts. Or her broccoli. Green vegetables were the horriblest (if that were even a word) and every evening there was a long and tedious war where she kept behind after dinner until she finished her food, along with the other children who didn’t care for the nasty, squishy, tree looking abominations that were constantly forced down their throats.

Even the smell of them made her gag.

And she didn’t see why she couldn’t have extra potatoes instead, or better yet, extra dessert. Then perhaps she’d consider eating all of her food instead of sneaking it upstairs to give to Diana, the runt from a litter of kittens birthed on the manor grounds. She may have been small, a little ugly too, but Alfie fully insisted on making it hers and then she'd never have to eat her vegetables again.

“Layla..” The girl Alfrida was hissing to was in fact called Lei-Li, but she liked the nickname just fine, “Will you eat my sprouts?”

Bright blue eyes gleamed with hope as she begun to slide her half filled plate across the table, not really allowing the girl to make a decision. Alfie even blinked a couple of times, fluttering her eyelashes as if that would make the decision any easier but whilst staring down the girl, she failed to notice the shadow cast down on them both from behind.

It could only really be one person and once the stern voice cut through the sudden silence, an unapologetically blatant huff escaped her before accepting her fate once again.

an hour later

There were 12 of them, all sat together in a line with their plates in front of them whilst being watched from a far. The children couldn't see them, but they could feel them, and that was enough to keep them somewhat quiet whilst they tried to force the rest of their dinner down their throats.

Perhaps it was a little severe, but the elders insisted it was for their own good and spoke of vitamins and minerals along with the strength and stamina it would give them. Alfrida didn't care and it was as plain as day on her face, however she nodded and agreed to what was said anyway as it was better than getting in even more trouble. She didn't want to spend a day in the library with Miss...Miss... Miss something she could never pronounce, who was even more bossy than she was.

And not only that, she ate liquorice so often her teeth were almost always black.

Alfie prodded a green stalk with the tines of her fork, her lips pursed in disgust as she continued to put off eating what she should have already. Some were stubborn like her, but others had already given in which called for whispered taunts and insults before the rest of them continued with their strike. On her left was Galileo, a troublemaker who almost never got caught, and on her right was Xenon, a stout lad with less common sense than her best friend.

"Go on Xe, you know you wanna." She whispered, watching him as he almost finished clearing his plate, "I'll let ya' have Vesta's dessert tomorrow."

Someone sniggered but she was too busy trying to buy her way out of what she considered to be certain death. Always dramatic, but never out of ideas.

"Why can't I have yours?" His mouth was half full causing her to roll her eyes, though she tried her very best not to visibly gag despite how plain gross she and most of the girls at The Deimos Institute thought he was, "Eh?"

"Because it's mine."

She wasn't really going to give him Vivi's dessert, but saying so sounded much more believable than so easily giving up her own. Tomorrow was the fourteenth of March, making it pie day and she'd rather freeze in an Icelandic winter than let chubby next to her eat her slice lemon meringue.

Besides, if she tried hard enough, she was sure that Vivi would let him.

"She'll sing to you too if ya' like."

The group erupted in giggles then as Alfrida wiggled her brows, the Scandinavian tones of her voice teasing the boy like many did. It was a well known fact that Vesta was tone-deaf, making her offer a deal breaker and so Xenon finished his plate and left with a scowl.

It was worth a shot, now onto the next.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Hufflepuff! Then I’ll have a baby in every house.

Personality: A loud extrovert that lacks tact. She unknowingly has ADHD, which often makes her restless, inattentive, and impulsive -- not to mention impatient! When she is feeling particularly fidgety, Alfrida grinds her teeth and bounces her leg. Ultimately, however, Alfrida is warm like the sun with a love for all things celestial and bright.

Appearance: A skinny kid with long platinum hair and bright blue eyes. You can tell she isn’t fully English due to her unique facial features, which she's incredibly expressive with. Due to being used to uniform, her personal style is casual but feminine.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Please reply to one of the Sample Roleplays below.

For a child that could navigate the stars so well, Alfrida truly lacked direction.

She had been wandering through the dungeons for twenty minutes now, first with determination but now with an absent mind as she had finally realised her escape was futile. It was undoubtedly her own fault for having been nothing but a distraction in potions, which resulted in being kept behind after class, however, she failed to realise why wanting to make friends was a bad thing.

(Sure, she had been a little loud, maybe even obnoxious, and she definitely timed her words so terribly that often she heard more often than Professor whatshername, but she meant well. That was what mattered.)

In all honesty, it wasn’t that complicated. Little Alfie just didn’t realise how many circles she had been walking in, or how many portraits she had already seen. The details didn’t stick, and everything kind of looked the same in comparison to her home in Derbyshire where there was a constant change in aura depending on where you were in the manor. She was so used to such idiosyncrasy that being somewhere considerably normal to everyone else was… unsettling.

She didn’t hate it. Really, she didn’t. She just didn’t get it.

“H-h-hello?”

If not for the eery silence of the dungeons, Alfrida wouldn’t have heard the timid sounding voice. At first she froze, questioning if she had really heard anyone at all before pulling her cardigan -- which was a tad too big -- back up onto her shoulder and following the direction she thought the voice was coming from.

And what a relief it was when she finally saw the silhouette of a fellow student.

“Hello! Is Emma Birch here?”

“Is that the dead one? Or is that the sulky lookin’ one?”

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Xavier Sr. and his wife Amelia met during a production at a theater in London. They both often describe the moment their eyes met as love at first sight, and they both cannot remember a time where they weren't in each other's lives.

This was a rare occurrence in their time, as aristocratic members of society would often marry for financial security and status instead of love but luckily their relationship was approved of and was seen as acceptable by the people around them. Amelia was an aristocratic socialite from London and Xavier was the aristocratic son of a prestigious and respectable Ministry man. Xavier also went on to be employed by the Ministry. Once approval was granted, they married at once. Xavier was 21 and Amelia was 19.

Their first child was born a year later and was named Sebastian. They soon had a second child, Xavier Jr, and a third, Theodore, after that. They were raised to be respectable gentlemen and they were expected to be determined, loyal and nothing other than what an aristocrat should be.

When the three sons graduated from Hogwarts, the eldest son Sebastian went onto be employed by the Ministry and the youngest son Theodore had taken a year off to explore his career choices. However, Xavier Jr had had a different experience at Hogwarts altogether which helped him to determine his future. Unlike his brothers, he was sorted into Ravenclaw and yet he was still expected to live up to the Slytherin reputation. Xavier Jr was stubborn but fair and treated those who deserved it with respect. His experiences within school helped him come to the conclusion that he wanted to succour the wizarding community by becoming a lawyer.

Whilst training to become a lawyer, Xavier Jr met a young lady called Penelope. She was middle-class and sweetly pretty with blonde hair and blue eyes. They grew close as friends but Xavier never intended to become romantically involved with the girl until his father insisted on Xavier getting married. It took him two weeks to pluck up the courage to ask, but when he did he had no idea that Penelope had intended on marrying Xavier all along. Simply for money and a higher status as the Duke name was well known and respected around Great Britain. It wasn't until two years after they were married that he found out the truth, and despite her bad intentions they were still great friends and found comfort in being around each other despite not being truly in love with one another.

Four years after they were married, Penelope fell pregnant with their first child who was to be named Pandora. Xavier grew very close to Pandora and has a rare but wonderful father-daughter relationship with her. 5 years after Pandora was born, Penelope fell pregnant again with their second child who was to be named Xanthos. Penelope grew a lot closer to Xanthos than she ever did with Pandora, though Xavier Jr cherished both of his children greatly.

Currently in the year 1939, Xavier works hard as a lawyer and he is very successful and respected in his line of work.  Previously he had partnered with Adrian Beauchamp - somebody who he is great friends with - and he currently supports the Wizards Alliance along with his entire family. As well as this, Xavier has made the decision to apply to the army due to feeling as if its his duty to his country and to the wizarding world.

Roleplay:

The sounds of the wizarding war were inescapable; even the bunkers were filled with the crackles and pops of offensive and defensive spell casting. Light from the spells bounced and flashed off of every surface, illuminated everything, making hiding hard, eyes sore, and sleep hard to come by.

Daniel twisted on the thin mattress he'd been laying on, his hands covering his ears as he tried, somewhat in vain, to block out the shouts of his fellow soldiers, of the enemies, drawing ever closer for the last four days. The last meal he'd had, had been some awfully plain mix of rice and beans and it settled, uncomfortable in his growling stomach.

He closed his eyes and thought of Meryl. Of his girl at home, all brunette curls and red lipstick. Her letters sat safe in the pocket of his khaki uniform, by his chest, almost over his heart and his hand flew to them as he wished.

"Man down! Move! Move!"

A good night's sleep was hard to come by on the front; he had a cruel reminder of this more often than not, and his eyes flew open to greet the sight which was far more familiar than he'd like it to be: Two men, dressed as he was in well-starched Khaki, levitating a fellow soldier, a man, a victim in between them.

He sprung into action; Their division knew, by now, to clear space to allow the healer corps to do their work. As he stood, turning to pull away his bedding and leave the surface of his mattress clear, he bumped into someone and fell sideways, spilling a cup of cold, milk-less tea over an important-looking map in the process and his own wand dropped, un-noticed, from his hoister on his forearm.

He groaned.

Roleplay Response:

Xavier did not gasp or step back, he stood in his uniform with a less than amused expression upon his chiseled face and his arms folded behind his back. After a deep inhale of breathe, the Duke looked down onto his shoes and at the map he had been holding and then looked back up to the boy who had caused the mess.

There was a moment of silence. Xavier knew his stare would be enough to wreck the boy's nerves and intimidate him completely. It was something he was well known for and it worked a treat on criminals he had worked with whilst being lawyer.

"Well? Do not just stand there, boy. An apology is in order."

More than an apology would be needed, but that was a start. Xavier only hoped the map had not been completely ruined, so he lifted it to his warm brown eyes and inspected it. Thankfully, the writing was still readable and so were most of the details.

"You were lucky this time. If you continue with such clumsiness, you'll be back here with the healers again and they might not be able to save you."

It was not a threat, but a fact. This war was a vicious one and Britain needed their best men.

Biography: (100 words minimum.)

The Valeriano family is a Muggle military family that originally resided in Verona, Italy. Lothario Valeriano joined the army at the young age of 18 at his father's request and has since worked his way up. Since his father was a lieutenant general, he worked and trained harder to prove himself and therefore became a fully qualified soldier quicker than most.

Unfortunately at the age of 20 after fighting all throughout WWI with his father, Lothario was sent home to Verona due to severe battle wounds and this was where he met his soon to be wife, Alessia De Rosa, who was a Pureblood witch. However, he did not discover this fact until their first son -- Severo -- was born.

Upon discovering that his wife was a witch, he was horrified and disgusted. Not only were the Valerianos a military family, but they were Catholic as well. Loving Alessia destroyed him and he instantaneously moved the family away to Valle d’Aosta to not only protect them but himself from his family. Three years after moving away, his own father never discovered his secret and there passed on a large inheritance to him upon passing away.

Due to this traumatic event, Lothario begun to drink. Once his wounds healed, he was back in the army where he exercised his authority as a coping method. Unluckily, this didn't stop when he went back home.

Four years after Severo was born, his second son Zeus was born and five years after he was born his third and final child, Eloisa, was born. They were an attractive trio of children who loved their parents dearly. Unhappily, despite loving them too, Lothario found it very hard to accept each of his children due to knowing they would be just like his wife.

Currently the family reside in Kent, England. Severo attends 'boarding school' - in other words, Hogwarts. Zeus and Eloisa stay at home with their mother and their father is an unstable alcoholic who is sometimes violent due to his authoritative career in the army.

OOC: Subject of abuse will not be played on due to it being a sensitive issue. It is simply mentioned due to it being part of the character's past and it shapes his character.

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Scotland was much colder than Kent and Zeus didn't like it. It was supposed to be summer, so where was the sun? His arms were crossed so tightly it was like his jumper had no other choice but to do its job and actually keep him warm. Unfortunately, this did not happen. Though, his mother probably knew a spell for that.

Unlike his younger sister, Eloisa, who was happily being pushed on the swings by his mother, Zeus was unhappily kicking stones out of his way as he walked along the path within the park. He was trying to have a good time but he found it hard to do so.

"...Do you want to play?"

He looked up and fixed his posture as soon as he heard the voice, a reflex he had learned over the years. He did not expect to be talked to at all. He hadn't even noticed the girl walk up to him.

Was it even okay for girls to play with boys in Britain? He had always been encouraged to play with the boys in his countryside neighbourhood in Italy. He met his best friend, Quirino, due to this encouragement. Zeus nicknamed him Rhino for short, as he had a short tempter. He missed Rhino very much.

"I do not know. What is there to play?" He spoke sternly with an accent. Girls were boring from what he had seen of them. They played with dolls and liked to do each other's hair. Did they even know how to play with boys?

Probably not.

Biography:

Dear Diary,

That is the proper way to start one of these things, is it not? Either way, its embarrassing. You're an inanimate object.

I have just found out that I will no longer have a private tutor and that I will be attending Hogwarts in autumn. I'm hoping that this is a cruel joke, but my mother does not possess a sense of humour. I've always wondered what my father sees in the woman when she is simply what society calls a 'gold-digger'.

The idea is absolutely preposterous. I've been in Kensington or with my family throughout my entire life. Never would I imagine to live so far away from them, my father in particular. I'm not fussed on leaving my little brother - Xanthus - and not having to see my mother would be a blessing.

Mother considers me an accessory instead of a daughter. I'm like the diamond bracelet everybody wants. Apparently so, anyway. She'll dress me like a doll to make sure I don't make her look bad, but at the same time she doesn't want me to look better than her. Vanity is vulgar. I hope I never grow up to be like her. Knowing I already look like her is an insult in its own, although even I must admit she is pretty.

Father however, I am much closer to him. He calls me Panda. Horrifically cutesy, I know. He is the only person who will ever get away with such a nickname, nobody else will hear of it.

I'm going to attempt to change my outlook on this situation. I will soon be told that this will be a new adventure, anyway. Until then, I'll have to prepare for the challenges ahead. I've been told of muggle magazines that give advice on situations like this. Is it worth the risk bringing shame on my family to prepare? Most certainly. Muggles are some what useful after all.

- Pandora

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request:
SLYTHERIN! Only the best, of course.

Personality:
Pandora is your typical daddy's girl, minus the need for pink ribbons and a pony. Most of the time, anyway. She is a logical thinker and she is slightly arrogant, but despite her impressive brain, she tends to forget to think before she speaks. This often gets her into trouble.

She is also very stubborn and possesses a dry sense of humour. She is popular in her home town and due to her cunning ways she is known for being the eyes and ears within the youth of Kensington. Due to this she can be quite relentless and manipulative.

However, Pandora is a friend for life - if you're worthy enough to gain her trust. She can be very loyal and is ridiculously protective of those she truly cares about. She isn't afraid to get her hands dirty in order to get revenge.

In her free time, Pandora is an enthusiastic and talented ballerina. She also can play the piano and the violin, although she doesn't enjoy it very much and only does so at family events. She also has the knack for charms.

The ultimate pet peeves for her are loud eating and ignorance.

Appearance:
Pandora has light blonde hair and sky blue eyes, both are complimented by her very slightly tanned skin. Due to her cute looking baby face, she is often misconceived as unnaturally pleasant and some what angelic.

On a day to day basis, she wears minimal makeup that consists of coral coloured lip stick and 'barely there' mascara to accentuate her eyes. Her mid-length hair is almost always curled and down.

Pandora is slim due to her passion towards ballet and her height at the moment is around 5'5. Her shoe size is a 6 and her clothing size is also a 6, sometimes even a 4 depending on the store she shops from. She often wears high waisted skirts and pretty blouses.

"Hey!"

Pandora ignored the voice as she furiously walked on down the castle corridor, her shoes tapping against the stone floors. The girl probably wasn't calling for her anyway, or at least she hoped she wasn't. Pandora had no interest in talking to some nobody who's life story, opinion or question was irrelevant to her current needs.

"Wait up! It’s for the paper..."

The blonde suddenly stopped in her tracks. How cute, she thought. She was almost flattered at the remark. Although, despite having little to no interest in the matter, at least they'd get a few quotes from somebody worthy.

With a turn of her heel, Pandora came face to face with another student who had the grace of a rhinoceros. Her eyes widened and her right eyebrow raised suddenly in order for the girl to continue.

"What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross."

Pandora took a moment to think before she answered. This was the first student she had come across at Hogwarts so far, so she would have to impress...or repulse. Both would be rather amusing. However she had never actually tried frogs legs - and the thought of it disgusted the Slytherin hopeful. She would have to charm her way through this one.

"You need to have an acquired taste to appreciate the French dish...one that most students here probably do not have. Its quite pointless really, you might as well stick with whatever you do serve, chips and what not." Pandora replied. Her voice had a neutral, almost uninterested tone to it. Conversely, in her head she chuckled to herself, knowing how pretentious and plain awful she must seem to the sad excuse for a reporter.

"Now if you don't mind," Pandora continued, "I have places to go and people to see. All of which I would rather do than utter another word to you." A subtle smirk appeared on her coral coloured lips before she turned to leave. Though before doing so, Pandora gave the girl a vertical scan with her pale blue eyes before speaking once more, "...But if you really want the truth, nobody is going to care about this tally you're doing. Do something scandalous like a gossip column and maybe then people will take interest in this little paper of yours."

Roleplay Response:

"...Do you want to play?"

Pandora heard the innocent voice and looked over the top of her book harshly. The girl had disturbed her peace, something she didn't get often with a family that was slowly nearing insanity.

However, she sympathised the being. Pandora looked to the sky and noticed the brooms zooming throughout the clouds and only had to guess what occurred with the little girl. Boys are so insensitive and selfish until they mature. She didn't understand their existence prior to puberty.

"Being a nuisance are they? She said with a smile so sweet it could rot your teeth. "I personally am not interested in the slightest, but I do have a younger brother around your age. He'd be delighted to play with you."

She hadn't known for sure if Xanthus would play with the little girl, but Pandora was confident that her brother knew the consequences of disobeying his older, wiser and more experienced with magic sister's requests. It had been this way since he could walk and talk, Pandora wouldn't have it any other way.

"Xanthus, you have a new friend. Father! Tell him to come and play. He did bring his broom didn't he?" She turned her pretty head to the sight of a nuclear family. However, she knew her father wasn't happy, she knew her mother was only there for status and she knew her brother was oblivious to it all.

Ignorance really must be bliss.
