Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Marius Mithras Paladin

Birthday: December 21, 1932

Hometown: York

Bloodline:
Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Transfiguration

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two): 4 (first choice), 5 (second choice)

Biography:
A son of the wealthy, well-established Paladin family, Marius enjoyed a childhood relatively unsullied by cares or wears. All his needs were duly met; most of his wants fulfilled. Pampered by his indulgent mother and approved by virtually all his relatives, he grew into the spoiled archetype that arguably predominates the echelons of pureblood society. Needless to say, there was very little in his childhood that bears remarking upon, for he was always a quiet sort, and his is the story of just about every pureblood boy.

His late childhood, on the other hand perhaps a little more worthy of discussion, as it was during this period that his life changed. When Marius was around the age of eight, there was expansion of their family branch after his younger brother’s birth, and the eight-year-old began to be steadily ignored in light of the accomplishments made by his older brother and the progression of his infant brother. Displaced and greatly deprived of the attention he was so used to, Marius contracted a severe case of ‘middle child’ syndrome that still plagues him today, and began to act out at home in hopes of drawing his parents’ gazes back to him.

Suffice it to say, all the petty outbursts and tricks that Marius resorted to over the years did gain that desired attention back; it was not, however, attention of a very positive sort: Marius’ parents, never the most open-minded of people, were convinced that their son had turned out to be a bad seed. Taking the Paladin head of family’s advice, they shipped an eleven-year-old Marius off to Durmstrang in hopes of correcting his behavior without having to deal with it themselves. In a few years’ time, they reasoned, he would be ripe to return.

As it turned out, several years at the harsh school did indeed appear to curb his behavior. He returned to England an outwardly more obedient boy, much more respectful of authority and much more like his former quiet self. Delighted by the change, his parents deemed it time for him to attend Hogwarts with his cousins.

House Request: Wherever you think he fits. c:

Personality: Still waters run deep: there is more to quiet Marius than meets the eye. A prideful and vain boy, Marius is excessively proud of his accomplishments and appearance. Of an artistic bent, he possesses a talent for drawing, playing the piano, and sculpting, and is interested in many, if not all manners of artistic expression; however, in valuing his appearance and believing in health to be vital to its preservation, he is also zealous about sport (though only sports that he feel have an aesthetic appeal, such as dancing, flying, fencing, swimming, and equestrianism).

He has an obsession with beautiful things, fancying himself an aesthete, and considers wit and grace to be more important in a person than wisdom or warmth. He has an exact beauty regimen, an obsession with taking supplements and vitamins, and a profound liking for order and cleanliness (though he is not so obsessed with those things as to not recognize that there is a time and place for dirtiness). He is awfully perfectionistic when interested in a subject or field.

Though he has various hedonistic tendencies, Marius is strict with himself at least in regards to schooling, something which can be attributed to his time in Durmstrang. He values tradition and his bloodline, very much believing in the elitist views of his parents and extended family, and disdains the lower class. Generally, Marius maintains a cold politeness or indifference; however, he sometimes shows a fierier side whenever he feels the need to mock ‘mudbloods’ and people he deems ugly, insipid, or beneath him.

When not immersed in his art, which makes him peaceful and almost pleasant, he’s quite skeptical and pessimistic. Rather two-faced and cold, he also can be disloyal, rather callous, and somewhat petty. He’s very much wrapped up in himself overall and prefers to focus on his own ambitions and artwork rather than people.

Appearance: A handsome, well-built young man with a stiff upper lip and light, flashing eyes.

Response to Option 2.

Hogwarts had about it a certain je ne sais quoi. There was to the castle a breathing quality which had been absent in Dumstrang, and he was fascinated by it—so fascinated, in fact, that he took to his sketchpad in just about any given location. But for the dungeons, each location held a place in his artistic sentiments.

The gardens were, however, one of the places he found most pleasant to observe and explore. Though the greenhouses were home to a few beautiful specimens, the gardens had many of the same plants in a much more harmonious arrangement. Their wealth of color and shape was a veritable blessing to his muse and mind.

The boy plowing his way through their flowers, on the other hand, was the exact opposite. Eyelid twitching a little, he stared witheringly at the sniveling creature, willing him to get a hold of himself and cease his senseless destruction.

When the oaf didn’t, he coughed pointedly and glared.

“Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare.”

Light eyes narrowed. “You can help me by getting out of the gardens—you’re ruining more than just the view.”
