Strength and weaknesses: In relation to his preferred position, Adrian's strength lies in diligence and care. He's unrelentingly organized. He holds dear the virtues of his house that treats the library almost reverentially. Personally, he's analytical, poised, deferential, unemotional, introspective, affluent, and unambitious. He'd honestly state that his biggest weakness is his lack of purpose, one that he'd hope a position as the school librarian could give him more than any of his previous career choices had. One he could grow old through as he uses it to frame his life while filling his leisure with writing and researching ancient histories. He is slowly getting better at speaking his mind, using sarcasm as less of a crutch, and obsessing less on the most minute of details. He also probably relies too much on his Divination skills to relate to others.

Physical description: While he has softened the very remote aura he oozes, the icy expression that you would need a chisel to try to change, it remains his general demeanor: thinned lips, sharp, shallow cheekbones, and a piercing gaze that could follow the light of your eyes to the marrow of your bones. His sleek, brown hair it just long enough to run thin fingers through, usually combed to a side. He is lean and unbending like corded iron. Adrian takes much care in his appearance. His many suits are kept pristine and perfectly cut, if slowly growing older in fashion the further he gets from his former modeling engagements. Even casual dressing has his own bit of flair and fashion, though it's not what you'd find him in while working. The only asterisk to this are the pair of suncheaters even within reach, as his eyes are sensitive to light, which he'll wear if he starts feeling a headache.

Personality: Adrian is the type of person who overthinks every word and action. He is calculating to a fault, careful with every syllable he utters. Some of it is due to an unyielding sense of thoughtfulness that lacked the good sense to die. Most is due to the ingrained lessons taught before he'd come to Hogwarts, where words were the catalyst for violence. He is very much a water spirit, a heightened breed of Pisces, whose roaring waters are kept rigid beneath sheets of ice. In that vein, he could be both direct and subtle, good-humored and humorless; the wait for a smile worth the running stream of frowns. He likes to treat others as he himself would like to be, which could be a good or bad thing as he can shut himself off when he doesn't feel like interacting or perplexed when others react in a way that doesn't make sense to him. Books have always proven to be a safe haven for him and he treats them with the care he was never afforded growing up.

Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?: In the face of a nomadic life, Hogwarts had been stalwart. It was the first and only place that felt like home to him, a feeling not at all unique to those who had lived within its heavy stone and the warmth of its fireplaces. The castle more than anything or anyone in his life had treated him without judgment, without prejudice. That communal bond is one he would relish to share in, especially now in a more mature place where he could share in some wisdom when teenage days could go from bleak to brilliant and back again.

Biography: Do the dead dare to dream?

For Adrian Alric, it took many years to overcome a lifetime of believing himself to be a mistake, a unfortunate accident like the dying light of a star; a black hole that would suppress those around him and drag them down to depths fraught with emptiness.

Those are bleak thoughts to self-actualize even for the oldest of us. For a twelve-year-old boy, it is a catastrophe. Yet, Adrian found himself believing such thing as fact, not fiction, upon being enrolled to Hogwarts-- itself another shame to add to the long list for the Helmingur who stained the ancestral purebood of his Icelandic Wizarding heritage by his very existence. That fact had been hammered into the boy by his extended family who he was forced to live with for many years before that.

That was a lifetime ago, though time itself remains a frail concept when worlds can open up through magically kept memories and books. Leaving behind the stigma of his name and the ties that bound him to his home had been the largest achievement of his life, the signature moment of adventure that changed how his prejudiced, close-minded pureblood family valued themselves in relation to the rest of the Wizarding world. Sadly, such an achievement left little room for growth once it was put behind him. Adrian was aimless. With the magical chest that opened into a dimensional vault with the vast majority of his family's accumulated wealth and the ancestral penseive with a thousand years worth of life and memories, there was little else that could take his focus or spurn the need to life a normal life. Much of the eight years since had been spent unlocking the layers that the Alricsson Penseive kept, watching the lives of others long dead play out as his own wasted away.

The last couple of years spent teaching his seminar for French purebloods, Economics of the Wizarding World, was as rewarding an experience as he'd felt since his first years at Hogwarts before everything grew too complicated and his need to clear the fog of unsolved mysteries proved too strong a temptation to put away. It gave him confidence in his own skills in relation to others, comfort in his own skin, self-assured positive thinking that have bloomed within the scorched earth of his negative thinking. He actually believed he could be liked; outside of his warped understanding of affection that had felt too possessive, too unwilling to let go.

He credited the opportunity to move forward to Sylvia Fortnum, whose presence within that time brought its own set of complications. Yet, if he was able to view her past their history, to come to know the person she was rather than the pedestal he had placed her in their youth, then it proved to him he could start anew without resentment or feeling like his tainted blood had cheated him out of a life with love. Adrian Alric was not the victim in his story. He did not have to live as one any longer.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
(Please respond to to this in third person past tense. Do not write the other characters' reactions. Only your own.)

It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with various odds and ends, with a place of honor for the Sorting Hat, and the walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses.

In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order, for the current occupant had always despised a messy desk. It was the sign of a messy mind, and she had always favored neatness.

A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.

Along with order, Anneka valued punctuality. She was a very busy woman these days. Even during the summer, she had a number of matters to attend to. Interviewing and hiring staff was only of those matters. The newest potential member of her staff wasn't making a good impression.

She paced the room, black heels clicking against the stone floor. When the door finally opened, Anneka turned, her expression reminiscent of a Russian winter. "You are late."

Explain yourself was what her face said.

Roleplay Response:

"You are late."

Adrian did not answer immediately. A slow nod at the meeting of their gazes was all he offered in the moment as he broke apart to take in the view of the office. As a student, he had seldom had a need to come here. He was the furthest thing from a rebel and fit himself within the disciplines of the castle with ease. The few times he had were easy enough to recall as the room remained much unchanged in the past decade. Subtle shifts here and there but, all in all, a familiar tone to what he would expect from the similar heritage they grew up under.

He took the open seat across the Headmistress's own, his gaze soft and rigid. Crossing over his leg and taking hold of his knee, Adrian once again nodded while taking care to keep his expression ambiguous, the line of his lips as straight as an arrow. Calculated grace had him bow his head instead out of respect.

"The castle," he started. Adrian paused to let out a deflating sigh that dropped his shoulders by an inch before an inhale fixed his posture. He began to shake his head, a smile cracking the icy demeanor that was as cold as winter's breath of northern Scotland. It was small but noticeable, lips breaking apart to flash shiny, white teeth.

"-remains as haunting as ever," was what he settled with. Adrian shifted in his seat, legs breaking off to plant his full brogues against the floor and hands clasping together over his lap. He had actually arrived rather early for his interview. Far too early by his estimation, which provided him time to roam the halls and allow his mind to wander to years past despite the unchanged shine of stone walls and magical ceilings. The grounds would prove far more reminiscent, personally so. Still, the trophy room and Ravenclaw Towers overloaded his sense of self as he could see his old friends walking beside him, hear the laughter that would follow them, feel the chill that would reside absent the warmth of students rushing from class to class.

"I would expect this to be the last time I am late with anything, I can assure you."
Funny, how I'm nervous still
I've always been the easy kill
I guess I always will
