Biography:
Alice Swan came to this world a few minutes past midnight, on February 29th. Parents who welcomed their newborn baby were usually ecstatic, crying as they held their precious bundle of joy in their arms. In this case, the Swans received Alice with open arms, yet with no tears, nor a smile. Alice was their fifth child, and the unwanted one.

The Swans were a Pureblood family, very prestigious of their heritage. The eldest child, a proud Gryffindor, always excelled in everything he did. He was the model child, the one everybody looked up to and wanted to become. Then came her sister, loyal Hufflepuff with a heart of gold. Always ready to help her parents and friends. The identical twin boys came along, ferocious little beasts with a working brain. No wonder they were put in Ravenclaw. Then there was Alice. A gap of 12 years separated her and her eldest brother and an eight years difference with the twins. She was the unexpected child, the one they hadn’t planned for. You would think that a pair of twins would have surprised them, but the Pureblood family always had four children, four being their lucky number. And here was the fifth. Born on the one day that only came once every four years. Four was supposed to be a lucky number, but not in this case. Nevertheless, the child was born within a Pureblood family and her parents weren’t fools. They were to keep her and cherish her as their own… even though she was theirs.

Alice’s childhood wasn’t the brightest one of them all, but little Alice never complained. She spent a lot of time by herself, browsing the books the Swan family had acquired over the years. She read on many subjects and was fascinated by Muggle culture. The science, the art and the stories. She dug through them all, hastily yet cautiously. Purebloods weren’t to mingle with muggles, but Alice couldn’t help the admire their way of living. She also took a lot of classes. For instance, gymnastics, dancing and piano lessons.

When she was nine years old, her family had started to believe that all the Muggle stories she read impacted on her magical abilities. At nine years old, Alice still hadn’t demonstrated any signs of magic. That ultimately changed one day when the twins had ripped her Sherlock Holmes book out of her hands and hid it somewhere in the Swan mansion. Alice was fuming, putting the twins’ room upside down as she searched for her favourite book, but to no avail. She glared at her brothers brand new school books and wished that they would disappear as well. That’s when it happened. A spark erupted on the hardcover, creating small fire that spread and damaged all their school supplies. Alice received her Hogwarts letter not too long after the incident, as well as a heavy scolding from her parents.

At Hogwarts, Alice kept to her old habits and mostly enjoyed her own company. She made a few friends here and there, managing to break down her walls a little to open up to other people. A Sherlock Holmes book under her arm and her charm book under the other, Alice was ready to conquer her last school years.

House Request: Slytherin please ♥

Personality:
Alice Swan is a rather peculiar girl. By spending much time by herself, she became a lone wolf, liking the peace and serenity rather than the crowded scenery. Nevertheless, meeting people and keeping up a conversation isn’t an issue, Alice being a social person once she’s around people. She doesn’t like to be the one that approaches others, but she has no issues to people coming over to her. When you meet her for the first time, she can seem cold and closed off. Learning that you’re unwanted in your family comes with trust issues and difficulty opening up to others unfortunately. As much as her expressions often come out as sarcastic and harsh, she also knows how to sway with words and keep people interested. Alice is rather flirtatious, liking to play with words and movements to make people put their attention on her.
Alice’s favourite character growing up was Sherlock Holmes and his behaviour tainted on her. Alice is a rather analytical person who likes to observe people’s behaviours. Her power of deduction might not be as keen as Sherlock Holmes, but Alice likes the game; discovering clues, figuring out what a person’s habits were, what they were thinking or what kind of person they were. Spending a lot of time by herself made her attentive to others ways of behaving and she enjoyed predicting how people would react to certain situations.

Appearance:
Alice has a very different appearance compared to her family. The long blonde hair contrasted with her family’s chestnut brown and her green eyes shone brightly compared to their brown eyes. Funny how genetics worked (she learned that by reading a book about “biology”). She always stands straight, with her average 5’7’’ height, and moves gracefully. This all came from the gymnastic and dance classes she used to take as a child. Alice takes very care of her appearance, always adding a dash of blush to make her cheeks rosier and red lipstick to make her lips pop with the color of her eyes.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Response:
Alice absent mindedly strutted down the corridors of the dungeon. The dungeons were always so calm, no one found the interest in hanging out here. They can’t be blamed, even though the dungeons brought a feeling of peace, where one only hears its own footsteps, they were not visually appealing. The repugnant smell that came from the potions class drove the students away quite easily as well. Nevertheless, the dungeons were a good place for Alice to be by herself when she needed her alone time.

She stopped dead in her tracks, hearing the sound of shoes hitting the stone ground.  They were not hers. Who could it be? Alice rose an eyebrow as she looked around her. It was a beautiful day outside. Who would possibly want to be down here except for a Slytherin heading to its common room or for potions class? Alice approached slowly and saw a young Gryffindor, according to the color of her tie, standing still. Looking at her face, Alice could clearly see that she was afraid. It’s not probable that she got lost, every Hogwarts student was smart enough to acknowledge the fact that the dungeons were not a great place to be around. Alice pondered and concluded that this young girl came here willingly. Then she heard her voice, resonating through the walls. Alice couldn’t help but let out an amusing sneer. Emma Birch, that silly ghost? She came down to the dungeons for a ghost? Alice rolled her eyes as she looked at the little girl’s face again. Clearly she was too frightened to come here on her own accord. Someone dared her to come.

Alice crept out of the shadows and walked towards the little girl. “You fancy yourself a visit in the dungeons for a ghost?”, she said as she crossed her arms. She couldn’t help but let out a chuckle. This poor Gryffindor was trying so hard to be brave, yet her body would not cooperate with her behaviour. Alice bent down a little, meeting the girl’s eyes. “Try again next time. Little Emma Birch only comes out to play in the dark.”, Alice said, putting a lot of emphasis on the last word and making it sound through the dungeons walls. She then walked away, without looking back at the young Gryffindor. She smirked as she exited the dungeons, thinking she probably gave that poor witch more goosebumps. Tricks didn’t pay no harm, did they?
