Hello there! Let me see if I can help you out here.  1. The birth year is not required on the application but it's a good idea to keep in mind what year your character was born (I always put the birth year on my character's apps because apps are a quick reference guide if I forget). Since time on the site moves so quickly it's sometimes hard to remember exactly how old your character currently is (especially if you add more characters in the future). If you do choose to put it in the application I would recommend that it be accurate with your first choice of the years you are requesting. If the admins are unable to put your character in your first choice year you can always just adjust their birth year according to what year they are sorted into. You'd want the year to be accurate to the character's year because you wouldn't want an eleven year old fourth year or something like that! 2. Generally, because the site tries to keep things as realistic as possible, players usually choose a real hometown (or real in the Potterverse). If making up a hometown is really something you're interested in doing I would recommend sending a Private Message to an administrator to get their opinion on the idea. 3. The application asks for two different year choices just in case your first choice year is full. The administrators cannot guarantee a placement in your first choice year (though they do try and most characters are placed in their first choice) so they ask for an alternative. Usually it's just a year below or above your first choice. Hopefully this answered your questions!

Hi Maria, and welcome! Applications for students are currently closed. They are open three months a year: April, August and December. So you're in luck! They will open again in just a few days on August 1st! To apply your student you go to the Student application template at the bottom of which is a code you can select. You would paste this code into a new topic in the Hogwarts Student Application forum with the title of your student's first and last name. A member of staff will approve your application or ask for changes if necessary and then you can start roleplaying on the Elsewhere and Summer board! You'll learn what house you were sorted into on September 1st when the castle opens up and the opening feast begins! I hope that helped!

Hello Maura!
You're coming along nicely on your application, I'd just like to have you clarify one part and edit another and then you should be all set to go!
In your biography it sounds like Maura's parents disappeared when the time warp happened. Since Maura is Pureblood, her parents most likely would not have disappeared as a result of the warp. Only nonmagical things stayed when the magical world shifted back. Were her parents squibs that were, perhaps, not in the magical community when the warp occurred? Or was there another reason for them having disappeared around the same time? If you could add a little more detail about that, that would be lovely.
Also, another thing to consider in your biography is that if she were at the St. Mungo's orphanage, small bits of magic would not be so strange, as the other children there would also be capable of that.
Lastly, in your RP sample you mention the Potions Professor, which is completely fine! However, because we RP classes and there are people playing the professors, it's better not to say a specific name. You could just edit to say she was looking for the Potions professor without mentioning a name and it'd be perfect!

Hello, John! I'm so glad you found our site, we love getting new players!
John sounds like he'll be a great addition to our site and I'm excited to see him around on the boards!
There's just one thing I'd like you to edit before we accept your application and get you playing! In your RP sample there's a bit of powerplaying at the end, which isn't allowed. Powerplaying is controlling the actions of another player's character without permission. At the end of your response you say that Hugh shrugged and went back to looking for his rat. As that is not mentioned in Hugh's post, it is considered powerplaying. If you could change that or remove it entirely, that'd be great. Another thing to consider is that you have John walk away at the end of your reply. If this were an interaction happening somewhere on the site you'd ideally want it to continue for a few more posts, at least. By having your character walk away it wouldn't give Hugh a lot to respond to. If you could edit your response to make it less final it would be perfect!
Just make those couple edits and re-post your entire application below and we'll take another look at it.

Hi Thomas!
Per our character creation guidelines: "At the Castle, all players are permitted one student character at any given time.* Additionally, should you be selected to teach, you may have a Professor character in addition to your student. However, if at some point you decide you would like two student characters, you may purchase one with your Gringotts points."
The only exception to this rule is for players who were members prior to October 2013.
If you would like to have Thomas as your student character instead of Gellert, that's perfectly fine. Just post below with your choice of which student you would like to keep in the sort and we'll either look over this application or archive it. If you do prefer keeping Gellert in the sort, you're more than welcome to apply Thomas as an Elsewhere child.

Hello Veronica! Let me be one of the first to welcome you to Hogwarts-School.net! It's awesome that you found us, we adore new players!
While your application is looking great (although quite sad; poor Veronica losing her father so young), I just have a couple of questions.
I see you are requesting first year, which is awesome! It's great starting from the beginning. Her birth year, however, doesn't fit with our timeline. Since we are currently set in 1946, an eleven year old would have been born in either 1934 or 1935 to be of school age for the beginning of this next school year. In Veronica's case, since her birthday is May 4th, she would have been born in 1935 to currently be eleven. It's nothing major, time moves oddly on the site, I just wanted to make you aware!
Next, in your RP sample, you leave it quite final. On the boards, when RPing with other players, you usually want to continue posting back and forth several times. Having your character walk away doesn't give much for the other person to respond to. Perhaps Veronica blurts out those words on accident while still standing near Hugh? Or maybe she says them on purpose, right to him, because he's trampling the lovely flowers! Whatever you think Veronica might do to keep the interaction going!
If you could just make those few adjustments, please, and re-post the entire, edited application below we'll be happy to take another look at it and get you accepted!

Before we can accept the application and get you playing on the boards, there's one thing you'll need to edit. Being a Seer is considered an extraordinary ability and needs to be special requested and approved by the admins before a character is allowed to have it. You can find all the details about how to complete a special request here, in the special request forum. Deciding on a special request takes some time for the admins, so if you'd like to get playing on the site quicker you can remove the reference from Keeva's bio and your RP sample and we can get you accepted before a decision is made. If you'd like, you can wait for a decision but there is no guarantee the request will be granted and you won't be able to RP with Keeva during that time. If you would like to go ahead with being accepted without the request, just edit out those bits I mentioned and repost the entire revised application as a reply to this thread. To say that Katherine tripped on James could be considered powerplaying James' character because the writer for James would then have to respond to that action when they may have wanted to do something else with James. Hello, Cleo! Welcome to Hogwarts-school.net! Your application is great, Cleo will make an excellent addition to the site! I'm excited to get you started roleplaying here, there's just a couple things I would like you to address before the application is accepted. 1. Per our site rating under-age sexual activity is not permitted. You don't have to change Cleo's history, I just ask that you remove the reference to her mother becoming pregnant while still in school. 2. I'd also like to know a little more about Cleo's background. Her biography has her finding her Hogwarts letter, but it's not clear how old she is when she finds it. Has she attended Hogwarts since she was eleven or was there a reason that kept her away from school until she was fifteen? If you could expand a little more on her biography that would be awesome! 3. Our site rules allow for new members to only have one student character at Hogwarts. Because you have also applied with Sebastian Mitchell I will have to ask to you to choose which of them you would like to keep at Hogwarts. I have already accepted Sebastian's application so if you choose, you could move Cleo over to Elsewhere and just tweak this application a little for the Elsewhere child application.
