Biography: (100 words minimum.)
Danielle Brooks was born to Simon and Dolores Brooks, sister to Claudia Brooks and bereft of any magical abilities that the rest of her family seemed to share. She was born a squib, and spent much of her childhood feeling alienated by the fact that she was unable to perform magic when the rest of her family could. She lived at home until the age of 18; after which she got her own apartment

In the spring of 1932, Danielle Brooks became pregnant with Theo after a drunken night with her partner at the time. Unfortunately, [NAME REDACTED] left soon after Danielle alerted him of her pregnancy, leaving her to birth and raise the baby on her own. She refused to contact her family about her newborn son and avoided phone calls from her workplace to come back to work.

Theodore Aloysius Brooks was born on Valentines’ Day and Danielle spent a week in Wellingborough Cottage Hospital before she was fully discharged, with debt in one hand and a newborn son in the other.

Despite having to spend time with her newborn son, Danielle also dedicated a lot of time to her work and bringing in as much money as possible- a lifestyle that was difficult to sustain. Danielle’s first priority was to pay off all the debt she had accumulated over her pregnancy, and she managed this impressive feat shortly after working intensively in her new position for a three-quarter year.

Now that she had paid off all her debt, Danielle took up a part-time position to spend time with her son, and brought in a steady amount of savings until Theo was four years old. By this time, Danielle had received a lucrative job offer across the pond, and she’d conjured up grand plans to travelling to America with Theo and beginning a new life. This dream was realised shortly after Theo turned five years old and she accepted the offer.

The time warp occurred shortly before Danielle and Theo moved out of Wellingborough, which tore Danielle’s muggle friends away from her and plunged her into a depression. She was resolute in moving to Queens, job offer or not, and managed the move with all her pooled funds.

They moved to Queens, New York, with very little familial support to back them. Regardless, Danielle fell in love with the blooming city and Theo grew up amongst an entire different calibre of children- all which opened his tiny little mind. His mother was an intellectual at the core, and always pushed Theo’s mind to its absolute limits. She encouraged creativity and curiosity heavily, and was immensely proud whenever Theo took home a gold star from school for his impressive intelligence.

By age 10, Theo had taught himself a variety of difficult mathematical and linguistic skills- and was offered a place at a high-end school for gifted children. Danielle was quick to accept the offer for him; it was clear to her that Theo was no longer being challenged by the concepts taught at grade school.

Theo’s magic manifested during his first term at the school for gifted youngsters, and Danielle, caught completely unawares; contacted her magical family to ask for help. She quickly learnt that Theo’s cousin, a girl called Helen, was attending a boarding school in England that was especially geared for children with Theo’s abilities. Despite her reluctance to let her son go to a school that was specifically for those with magical abilities- Danielle ultimately decided it was best for him.

Danielle swiftly packed up their things and resigned from her job, and moved back to England during the middle of the second world war- a process that was far more difficult than Danielle had intended it to be. Upon moving into her old apartment in Wellingborough, Danielle received a letter from Hogwarts School to notify her of Theo’s prompt acceptance, and everything was finalised.

Roleplay:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Theo was rather enjoying his day in Godric park, reading Orwell's latest work in the sunshine and blinking through the lingering traces of fatigue. His mother was at work and his friends were out shopping, and he was left in blissful peace to ponder over some quality literature.

Or so he thought.

A little girl, squealing holes through Theo's fragile peace, was chasing her brother over the lawn on a rather pitiful toy broom. It would have been amusing to watch were it not for the ungodly noises coming from the girl's mouth. It struck Theo that he could move, but he would rather prefer sticking a rusty needle into his eyeball. A glance at the park-goers around him revealed nothing of suspicion, but he believed that some others must be starting to get annoyed with the little girl's behaviour.

Finally, the older brother zoomed off on his broom and the little girl was left on the ground. She threw a rather spectacular tantrum, with Theo wondering whether he could roll his eyes into the nth dimension without breaking his skull- before the little creature turned on her heel and pointed a single chubby finger in Theo's direction.

"You! ...Do you want to play?"

Theo slowly put down his book and arched a single, perfectly sculpted eyebrow. Then he lifted his chin and looked the little girl up and down.  He heaved a weary sigh and dragged his hand over his forehead. "Have your parents never told you that you shouldn't talk to strangers, girl?" He asked, tilting his head slightly to the side.

He put his book aside and leant forward to brace his elbows on his knees. He shot a quick look around, wondering whether any of his elitist friends were around to watch him interacting with the little girl. She was 'lesser'- less intelligent, less seasoned; less knowledgeable. In the eyes of Theo's friends- it was perfectly acceptable for him to up and leave without another word.

But Theo was not his friends. His mother had instilled in him time and time again that propriety was key and that manners were the greatest gift. So, he stayed and urged the little girl to speak with a tilt of his head; wondering all the while whether he would pick up Orwell again today.

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Helen 'Hel' Kane

Birthday: October 14, 1934

Hometown: Cambridge

Bloodline:

Muggleborn / Halfblood / Pureblood / Unknown

Magical Strength (pick one):

Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):

Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): 4th or 5th year

Biography:

Born to two magical parents- Helen had a good childhood, bereft of any major trauma. Her situation, really, was ideal. She had two parents who loved each other and doted on her, and Hel’s relationship with her family is part of the reason she has become so fiercely loyal of the ones she loves. At age 2, Hel’s little family expanded to include her newly-born sister, Senna. She adores her little sister, and many of her childhood adventures included getting into mischief with Senna by her side. Hel’s magical abilities manifested when she was 3 years old, when she brought her father’s morning cup of tea to the boil during a particularly strong bout of anger. Her father affectionately dubbed her 'Hel' and her parents began teaching her how to channel her magic safely; seeing as Hel’s magical powers were the cause of many an accident in their household.

At age 4, Hel began to attend Charm School in favour of Muggle primary school to further hone her magical abilities, and to ensure she could check her temper. Her primary school education was fair, and she showed certifiable progress of controlling her magical abilities, but Hel's fiery temper still got her into trouble on multiple occasions. At age eleven, she received her Hogwarts Acceptance letter, and has been attending the school ever since. Her first year was by far the busiest, as she had to adapt to living away from her family in an unfamiliar place where far too many rules tried to restrict her individuality. Regardless, Hel made many friends during that first year, and found that returning home for the summer holidays even made her miss Hogwarts’ castle a little.

Her second year was one of athletic prowess. She joined her house’s Quidditch team and enjoyed her newfound ability to channel her temper and her energy into the sport- and as a result, her grades began to steadily improve. Hel was by no means remarkably intelligent, but she enjoyed playing her strengths in the classroom as well as on the pitch.

Hel’s third year wasn’t particularly noteworthy. Her grades remained constant and she stayed on her House’s Quidditch team, and her friends ensured that her stay at Hogwarts was again, an immensely satisfying one. This was the year, however, where Senna started to attend the school, and Hel did her fair share of worrying before she realised that, like herself, Senna just had to adapt, and that she would be all fine.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request: Slytherin

Personality: Hel is ambitious, strong-willed, and extremely confident in herself. She's incredibly loyal to her friends and family, but not afraid to throw a stranger under the bus to further her own means. She is civil to strangers and more personal when it comes to those she's close to. She can be extremely manipulative, and her temper is short and fiery; the combination of these things often gets her into trouble. She's quite intelligent; her strongest subjects are astronomy and charms; but Hel isn't a person who employs that intelligence in dangerous situations. Rather, she prefers charging in with her wand blazing and assessing the situation later. As such, she has difficulty conforming to a set standard and prefers to pave her own way as opposed to following someone else's- being forced to conform often triggers her temper.

Appearance: Hel is of a medium height and lean musculature, with fair skin, ash-blonde hair and brown eyes. Her hair is braided back at the temples, and then swept back into a ponytail. There's a smattering of freckles across the bridge of her nose, and her left front tooth is slightly chipped. She's meticulous about her looks and keeps her appearance well kept; her hair washed, nails trimmed, etc. She's got a set of matching scars on both elbows, which she received as a result of a particularly nasty fall when she was a child.

She wears the robes of her house with immense pride. She carries herself confidently, and favours wearing her uniform with only minor alterations to suit her personal preferences; not enough to be noticeable, but just enough to feel like she's challenging the status quo.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

Hel was only just returning to the Slytherin common room, about to open her mouth and utter the password in front of the entrance; when a tinny voice, high and very clearly uneasy, stole the words right out of her mouth. The sounds bounced off the walls and the serpent, mistaking it for Hel's password, uncoiled in front of Hel's eyes. "Falsssssse," It hissed, "Perhapssss later." Before solidifying itself back into inaction. Hel groaned inwardly, feeling her temper spark at the person who had just ensured she couldn't enter the common room for another hour, and turned around to seek out the source of the sound.

The dungeons were as familiar to her as the back of her hand, and Hel turned a number of corners before she found the thin little girl, shoulders hunched and hands clasped tight at her sides, looking about the corridors. She had a Gryffindor crest sewn onto the breast of her jumper, and Hel felt another tenuous spike of anger enter her bloodstream. Gryffindor. Of course. "Hello! Is Emma Birch here?" the little girl called, and Hel moved into the firelight to lean against the stone wall.

"She's off," Hel said, coolly, meeting the little girl's eyes. "So what are you doing all the way down here? These dungeons are no place for little girls like you- even if you are a Gryffindor."

Godric Park.

Roleplay Response:

Hel's eyebrows shot into her hairline at the little girl's exclamation. She certainly hadn't expected for so much sound to come from such a tiny little body. It almost made her laugh.

She had observed the little girl on the broomstick, already having decided that she liked the girl's tenacity. She was amused by the child's antics more than anything else; the little girl reminded her of Senna, looks and personality down to a 'T'. She hopped off the bench at the little girl's pointing and sank down to her haunches.

"I might," She said, cocking her head slightly to the side and pursing her lips like she was considering the little girl's command like it had been an offer. "But you'll have to ask me again, and perhaps a little more politely. You were a little rude, you know."
