Hometown: Füssen, Deutschland

Bloodline: Pureblood

Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Transfiguration

Year (pick two): fourth | fifth

Biography:

With both Katja’s parents always at the Hexenreich's beck and call, it was nearly impossible to gain any attention in the Mehler household. The family have always had a privileged lifestyle – having an Obliviator and a Cryptographer for parents ensured that there was always work to be done and money to be had, especially during the war and its aftermath. This also paved the way for Julia and Stefan to secure middle rank positions within the Hexenreich, allowing the family many privileges even during the height of the war.

Katja and her siblings grew up with the guidance of private tutors; they went from one to another, each having their own opinion about the war, each convincing the children that their view was the right one. Despite this they did not lack in social activities – balls and such were a luxury the German elite could still afford. Of course, these gatherings would not be complete without talks of politics and gossip.

Here, Katja learned to be critical. She learned never to take things at face value, and that actions and words are always, always, borne out of intent.

And it was in this environment that she fought for her parents’ attention. The rise of the organization took almost all of their time, and Katja soon found that if she didn't seize opportunities with a strong will she would never get anything she wanted. Being stuck in the middle of four boys was a challenge, and many times she fell into obscurity, engulfed by her dependable, adorable brothers.

It was a constant battle for recognition, and Katja did what she could to gain it. She practiced her English and Russian until Frau Schuster could reluctantly compliment her progress, and showed interest in her parents’ work by going through what she could understand of the available books in their private library. She asked them questions, letting herself become curious with their preoccupations. Eventually, her efforts were rewarded, and her parents were properly impressed by her capacity to engage them in discussion, so much so that when the possibility of sending a child to Hogwarts came, it was Katja who they had asked first.

If this would please her parents, if this would set her apart from her siblings, then there was no hesitation: she would do it.

(Option 2)

It was a good day to have breakfast outside.

Well. It wasn’t really, but Katja had decided eating outside on her own was more preferable to having breakfast with people who didn’t even bother to mask their dislike of her. It was unfortunate, since it would definitely make her stay here better if she had companions, but she couldn’t do anything about where she came from.

And anyway, she didn’t really come here to make friends.

Still. It would be nice, though, if she could.

So she munched on her pasty dispassionately, sitting cross-legged on a bench by the Gardens, when a boy came out of nowhere to launch an attack on the flower bed.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

Katja stared as she took another bite of her breakfast (not so much out of curiosity, but out of having him in her line of sight), and wrinkled her nose as he gave a sneeze.

Gesundheit.”

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

His effect of his retort was somehow lessened by his stuffy voice, and Katja raised her brow in reply.

“Well, it is also not polite to step on those poor flowers,” she said matter-of-factly. She was the one who had been there first; he was the one who disturbed her peace. “And after all that noise, I am sure your rat would have already ran somewhere else.”

At this rate, she doubted he’d actually even be able to find it.
