CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character name: Maximillian Atlas Bastian Morgenstern

Previous and/or Current Character(s) if applicable: Hermes & Co.

Character age: Thirty-Two

Character education: Private Tutoring & Einstab Hexengymnasium

Strength and weaknesses (details please): Magically speaking, Maximillian excels in Charms, with much of his studies at the Hex (as he liked to shorten it to) was focused on not only the use of charms, but the process behind each spell. He often liked to read into its history, he believed there was something to be learnt from it… there was always a reason for a spell being created. Quite fitting for the subject he’d like to teach.

None magically speaking, Max has a range of talents, strengths thanks to the image Carl (his father) had of his eldest son and heir. Taught various languages, he learnt basic subjects, non-magical, but it made him the smartest six year old. But, as Carl made a perfect image for his son and made his strengths, Carl was also able to make his son’s weaknesses. Family. Following Carl’s imposed restrictions soon after he found out about Max’s illness, Carl soon designed flaws in his perfect son.

When looking at the roots of Max; we find his greatest weakness... an inner destruction. More stable now, Maximillian, had always had an inner destruction that he has never really found. It manifested from a young age, paying homage to his father, and the way he treated his eldest son. At the first chance he had, Max had rebelled, rebelled to just prove that Carl did not have control anymore, that Carl would never have control anymore. A weakness easily exploited if anyone ever found it.

Looking at Max’s magical weaknesses, he was never able to conquer the art of Transfiguration that so many seemed to be able to do. It was this celebration among other students that drove him to try and try. However, no matter how much he tried, he was still relatively bad at the subject, and received the second lowest grade possible. Divination wasn’t much higher either.

Physical description: Tall, skinny, making him somewhat fragile; it did not help with his illness that made/makes him use a cane when in recovery. A redhead, but not fiery, he was and remains easily spottable when it comes to mixing in with the crowd, despite the teasing, there wasn’t much of it, he liked his coppery hair. Who wanted to be a clone anyway?

Personality (nice, rude, funny etc. Paragraph please.): At present, Maximilian; having ascended the Morgenstern throne just over a year ago, he finds himself composed and generally professional. However, he took more after his mother than he did his father, and having come out of a tricky patch in his life, he finds himself being able to smile more, to laugh and let his hair down. Maybe that was due to the help of his son, Finn. Although, when duty calls, he can find himself upright and asserting position.

Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?: Teaching was never Max’s idea of a profession, Max never really had a profession in mind, however, it was a suggestion from his mother that got him thinking. In order for him to pick himself up, she thought that teaching would be able to focus his mind and stop him from returning to the mess he was previously. Having inquired, he decided to apply for the post, with a strong interest in History, he finds himself rather excited about the idea. Though he has to be reminded, the decision was yet to be made.

Biography (500 words minimum. There is never such a thing as too much.):

Where does one begin when it comes to birth; the conception, or the first breath of air that filled the young babes lungs. Either points in history was full with drama. His conception followed the traditional format, his mother, Nadja, married Carl Morgenstern in the Winter, and by the Spring she was pregnant with her first child, or what would be twins. From the outset, Carl Morgenstern was destined to remain the cold, distant man, that was hoped, fatherhood would heal. The whole marriage was destined to be distant.

As for birth; Maximillian and his twin sister, Alys were born three weeks early, Nadja’s waters had broke during supper, leaving Carl to take care of the dinner guests. He found himself swallowing whiskey, smoking cigars and rejoicing at the birth of his son and heir. He very rarely cared for the girl that came along, he had his son, and it was as much as he cared for, Alys was cared for more greatly by their mother. Nevertheless, Maximillian and Alys grew closer than imagined, despite the idea of Max being favored.

However it was this favouritism of his father that would push him more into isolation. It wouldn’t be long until Max soon found resentment in his father’s favouritism, and not longer after, Carl would feel the same.

He was heir, and favouritised throughout the entire family, and society, painted to be the next Great Head, there had been only one Maximillian Morgenstern before him, he was known as Max the Magnificent in fables of history. This only gave Carl the more motivation to produce a son, an heir to be greater, more magnificent. Max’s education began earlier than Alys’, at the age of four, a desk had been put into the Castle library and Sir Gerald Prince, who had once taught at Oxford was teaching the young boy Latin, French and English, a Madam Reichter teaching him mathematics and literary studies. Alys did not join Max until they both were seven years old, Max considerably more advanced than his twin sister.

It was however, when the twins were five that Maximillian almost lost life. He was a boy; an adventurous boy that liked to play within the grounds of the Castle, for once, the sun had been shining with the sun beaming through the the mixture of trees, grown, fresh green leaves coating the branches, a strong smell of flowers as they grew throughout the grounds. Maximillian was not with Alys, but his blonde haired friend, Viktor. There was no stopping, or knowing what would happen when Max had fallen from the tree. Only a continuation of blood that was failing to clot. For the first time, Carl showed emotion, his heir was dying.

His son bundled in his arms, he carried Maximillian inside, where several healers were contacted, the families physician, along with contact from St. Mungo’s, who was one of the leading hospitals in the world. It didn’t take long for, what happened to be three healers to conclude that Max had Hemophilia type B. The healers had managed to tame the bleeding, enhanced through some spells, but did not stop the bleeding completely. It would take another two days before the bleeding stopped entirely, another three before Max could leave his bed and confines of his room.

It did not only make Nadja more protective of her eldest child, it also made Carl; and they both enforced strict rules following his recovery. The family physician was moved into a cottage in the estate, along with Max not being permitted to climb trees, scale the Castle walls, or any other type of activity that might see him fall from a certain height. This once adventurous boy, was now grounded. He was to be accompanied by somebody from now on.

Carl assigned an attendant to Max (which brought suspicion among the upper class), he was a young man of the German Cadets, Army Division named Otto Lagerfeld. He had been chosen out of a group of twenty-five, and was viewed as the best in the eyes of Carl Morgenstern to protect his son and heir. From the age of five, Otto Lagerfeld shadowed the young Max, until he was ten years old, when Otto Lagerfeld was relieved of duty, and given a pension for his work. In those years, Max had gotten to know the man well, and was upset when Otto left.

However, Maximillian had been accepted into the Einstab Hexengymnasium, where he would further his magical education, he joined his childhood best friend, Viktor. To this point in time, Viktor was perhaps the only person to fully understand the heir, whom, Max told everything too. It had been Viktor who had ran with him as they raced away from Otto and his mother, Viktor had been there to catch him when he tripped, stopping fatal blows to threaten his life. It was at school that the two boys would explore more; themselves and eachother.

When it came to graduation, the prospect for a career for Maximillian was not something he had to worry about. A political career loomed over his head as Heir; he was destined to play that dangerous game. But he was not ready for the political arena just yet, and so, he spent his first few months out of school doing what he wanted, which meant spending a long summer in the mountains, daily letters being sent to Viktor, and Viktor responding the same. One life was not destined however, one with Viktor.

His mother had always hoped that Max’s relationship with Carl would heal; damaged throughout his teenage years when he rebelled. Carl could not control Max no longer, physically, as well as mentally; he had been so confined around the Castle throughout his child, it was always predicted he’d rebel, at least by his mother. The relationship would partially heal, Carl would always find way to his son’s bedside whenever Max found himself ill, confined to the four poster bed until it was safe for him to leave.

The extended summer lasted into the first week of October, when eventually the family moved back to the Castle in the northern part of the country. Maximillian was yet to find a career he wanted to do; and it wasn’t long before the idea of a marriage proposal was being thrown into the mix. Within this period, he spent many weeks with Viktor, as if they had not yet left school, and together, to show that they were both growing up, they bought an apartment in Berlin, not long after the Nazi regime was removed from power.

It would change once more, a year later, when Viktor was engaged to marry. Max had taken it upon himself to remove himself from the situation and left Viktor to spend the rest of his life in happiness, at least Max was convinced it was what Viktor had wanted. It was not the case. Max returned to the Castle; it was then that he jumped at the chance of being able to travel to live in London, to be there for Em. It also meant that he did not have the temptation to visit Viktor; that was not to say that Max running away was the last time the two men would be together.

In London, he also engaged in a programme, to work with specialists at St. Mungo’s to establish some kind of spell that would help, but also to find a kind of cure for the disease he was stuck with. He relented to the idea of marriage, and his parents worked to find him a wife, of which they found in Rosamund Baxter. They were soon engaged. Max was growing up, finally becoming a man, something, but not exactly what his father had always wanted for him.

The day his father passed away, Maximillian had not imagined himself to mourn the man that without him, he wouldn’t be on the earth. But he did, and the funeral took place in Germany, where his father was intured at the Morgenstern Mausoleum which was located on the Castle grounds. It was here, he was reunited with Viktor, and again, at his wedding two weeks later. He could not stop his mother from inviting Viktor, she did not know anything about what Vikor and Max had been. Was? It was still confusing.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
(Please respond to to this in third person past tense. Do not write the other characters' reactions. Only your own.)

It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with various odds and ends, with a place of honor for the Sorting Hat, and the walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses.

In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order, for the current occupant had always despised a messy desk. It was the sign of a messy mind, and she had always favored neatness.

A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.

Along with order, Anneka valued punctuality. She was a very busy woman these days. Even during the summer, she had a number of matters to attend to. Interviewing and hiring staff was only of those matters. The newest potential member of her staff wasn't making a good impression.

She paced the room, black heels clicking against the stone floor. When the door finally opened, Anneka turned, her expression reminiscent of a Russian winter. "You are late."

Explain yourself was what her face said.

Roleplay Response:

He was very rarely late; but on this occasion… he had been. He wasn’t exactly sure what the reason behind it was, but he knew, he had to think of something quickly, otherwise he could kiss that job goodbye before even talking to the Headmistress. It was slowly becoming a priority, that the desire for this job was becoming stronger and stronger, as for the Wizengamot seat, Rosamund could handle that work.

They might not be in love, and that the marriage was that of convenience, he had at least thought they had become friends in the time they spent together, and therefore, she would understand as to why he had to do this, if he got the job that was. Stress at the Ministry had been one of the key factors to the… the incident. A clear break from that work would help him remain fully on track to recovery, and more than likely remaining there.

His hand trailed through the red locks of his hair, dragging the stray hands out of his eyes. Hogwarts Castle was impressive, and its impact danced across his face as if he was an eleven year old boy coming here for the first time. He had never went to Hogwarts, his education took place far away, across the English Channel. Weighing up what he knew, he still preferred Einstab… at least for now. He was open for the Castle to convince him otherwise.

Polished shoes clip-clopped across the stone ground as he hurried up the stairs, he was glad there was some elf there that was able to point him in the right direction, he had no idea where he was going. Another factor that might explain his lateness. However, he could not hide behind that, it was a pitiful excuse if an excuse at all. Truthfulness, he had to be truthful; how was lies going to be a foundation for a new relationship; pending the outcome of the meeting.

There was no need to knock, for when he found the door, eyes still wide with fascination, it managed to swing open. He swallowed. The woman was… was she older than him? He wasn’t entirely sure, but he was considerably youthful, and therefore, even if she was similiar, it was likely he still looked younger. Not that he could admit that of course. Not at all. "You are late."

A pause and he let the air settle a moment, icy cold he was not sure what to do. Well, all he could do was what he knew, and that meant, professionalism, businessman like persona. His hand went out, a smile widening across his face. “Madam Ivanova,” Would sweet talking work? Madam, a station she might not have considered. “I must offer my sincere apologies… I fear some personal issues caught me up, but it shall never happen again” He prayed it would not.

In addition to posting a completed application in this forum, we also ask that you submit a PM to Anneka Ivanova with details of your class and with the lesson plans for that class (include at least a minimum of 4 lessons). Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Born Maximillian Atlas Bastian Morgernstern, he was the eldest of twins to come, and therefore has been designated heir since birth; he put the smile upon his mothers face, the apple of her evergreen eye. Max was born in their country residence of Trier, where his mother, Nadja was assisted by several healers in the family drawing room. Due to complications, he was born three weeks early, with Nadja's waters breaking during supper in the evening. There guests were left to his father, Carl Morgernstern, who was not with at Nadja's side, Carl continued to drink, laugh and smoke his cigars. Perhaps a foreshadowing how he'd cope at being father.

He was raised with grace, manner and a thought of etiquette. He was taught at a young age how to be polite, how to speak properly, being taught by a rather pump, red face Governess, who with his twin sister Alys, teased from time to time; getting her to chase he around the nursery and hiding their pieces of parchment when it came to beginning their education. However, all boys were adventurous, and at the age of five, he began climbing a tree within the estate. The family had took to the grounds to have a picnic, where the twins, their parents, and several relatives from the Swiss Alps and Wales were in attendance. As an adventurous boy, he began climbing a tree, in which, half way up, he fell, causing him to bleed.

The bleeding did not stop. Bundled in his fathers arms (perhaps one of the only times of care he has shown his children) he was hurried back inside, where a physician was contacted. With the knowledge from the healer, trained in the United Kingdom, it was concluded that Maximillian had hemorrhaged, with a mass amount of blood loss, he had to conduct an emergency blood transfusion. A sample of blood was taking to be tested. Unlike muggle capabilities, the tests returned shortly after, and the healer was not certain that his inkling was correct. Maximillian had the Christmas Disease - Hemophilia B.

Due to his disease, his mother became more protective of her eldest son, she would monitor everything he did, for a simple paper cut could kill him. She would only allow him to play on the lawn, no climbing trees or scaling walls, this one adventurous boy, was now grounded. But she could no nothing once he began his education. He was accepted into the Einstab Hexengymnasium, a family favourite. He was educated with complete success, being a mature young gentlemen, which grew into a lovable rogue. He would attend lessons with his friends, perhaps muck about but in the end, when it came to examinations, he was okay, coming out with the highest accolade awarded to every subject, which he was astonished by.

A career for him wasn't destined. He came from a pureblood family and so all he knew he was going to be head someday, which meant a political role would follow. However, he did not at first take to the political world, with no understanding of it at all. When he graduated, his only form of career came when he played to the German National Quidditch Team. Something his mother was horrified at. She hated the notion that he could die from the violent game, let alone his condition, if he fell of a broom, he would die for sure.

When Em expressed her wish to move to London, Maximillian was at first unsure about the fact. He had not taken to the Hexenrich, at least he didn't understand their motives and so he stayed out; neglecting their propaganda attempts. Unlike his parents who did not like it, he decided that he wished to go too - his mother was easily persuaded. He'd heard of St.Mungo's, a hospital that was capable of treating him, he used his hemophilia to gain her approval, and so he was his sisters guardian. He loved his siblings, he loved Alys, Em and Matthias, he was their father figure, he protected them, he loved them dearly. When a residence was purchased in Kensington, the siblings moved, with their parents coming with them until they settled in, they would return to Trier several weeks later.

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Roleplay Response:
He strode down the street with a manner of excellence in his step, his fingers slid into his coat pockets as he managed his way down Diagon Alley. Ever since moving to London, he had not visited one of the most popular wizarding streets of London. He had not apparated in, nor had he used the Floo Network, but that of the pub; The Leaky Cauldron, he'd heard that was the ultimate experience. It was something, the street packed full of witches and wizards, young children, all draped in robes as they went about their business.

He was half way down the street when he heard the nagging voice of Amelia Nixon. He'd heard her before, seen her photograph in the Daily Prophet next to her annual column. He'd never particularly read her work, but he knew of her, his friend loved what she had to say. He was never sure if she was being sarcastic at this point. His fingers ran through knotted, dark red hair as he maneuvered past an elderly witch who was slowly going about her business. He did not have time for slow walkers today.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!”

God. She was as clumsy as he had assumed. Smiling, he let out as sigh, turning around. He was gentlemanly, he would not allow a woman lay on the floor, he wouldn't allow a young woman to be abandoned in her time of need. No matter how annoying he found her. "You wan't to be careful" He said, picking up the heel, offering his hand out to the woman. "Are you okay?" He asked, keeping his smile upon his lips.

Suggestions & Questions / Eienstab Hexengymnasium
« on: 22/02/2016 at 17:54 »
I am wanting Max to have attended the Eienstab Hexengymnasium, and I had a few questions about what the school was like.

  • Are there houses?
  • What is the Curriculum like?
  • Are there any professors/teachers/tutors?
  • An add on to that Headmasters/Mistresses
  • Is there Quidditch?

Generally just information about the school, the basics that would help with character development. What lessons he'd excel in? What lessons he'd fail? Hope someone can help.
