Biography:

The day Riley Dean Jackson entered the world, was sadly the day his mother left it.

Riley Dean was a rebellious child, purposely acting out for his work/alcoholic fathers attention. There wasn't a week where he didn't get in trouble for one stunt or another. And a month didn't go by in those four years of primary school where his father wasn't called in.

Having a father that's a workaholic was hard, but having an alcoholic father was harder. Riley hardly saw his father in those early years, and when he did, it was never pretty. That kind of thing could make a kid grow up real fast, and get some sense. Luckily, he got to visit with his uncle during the summers. He loved those days, hanging out on the ranch. He learnt the ropes really quickly.

When he was seven years old a terrible argument broke out between him and his father, resulting in Riley receiving a black eye and rib. But the physical pain inflicted by his father was nothing compared to the emotional and mental impact of being told that it was his fault his mother died. The image of hatred in his fathers eyes, and the guilt of his mothers passing, would be something he would carry with him for most of his life.

After that night, Riley ran away, heading to the only place he had ever felt safe or happy. His uncle William's ranch.

A year later, William, and his wife Abigail became Riley's guardians, and they refused to let his father anywhere near the ranch.

Those following three years proved to be life changing to young Riley, because it was on his uncles ranch, meeting a beautiful Stallion called Shadow, that he finally learnt that he had a gift. A natural empathy with traumatized, and unbroken horses. He didn't fully understand why he could calm them in such a way, and teach them, but he refused to question it. All he knew that bringing those poor animals peace, brought a little bit of peace to him.

When he finally got his acceptance to Lawhorn, he was both excited and terrified. Luckily his father and mother had confided in his uncle years ago about the possibility of Riley growing up with "special talents." So as shocked as his uncle had been, he was happy to let him go on and be apart of the world his mother was from.

Needless to say Riley enjoyed his time at the institute, what child wouldn't love to learn and use magic? Less rebellious than he was in his younger years, teen Riley still got himself in to trouble every once in a while.

He had taken Care of Magical Creatures, every year he was able to, but it wasn't until his fifth year that he learned his special gift with horses could also be used on different types of large four legged animals. During a lesson where they were introduce to a Hippogriff, the griff was spooked by one of the more idiotic students. Without think Riley walked over to the animal and began soothing it in his own way, while be respectful as the teacher had taught them. For his last two years he was the comc classroom assistant.

After graduation, Riley signed up for a placement with Lawhorn and stayed for another two years in order to take care of, train and learn all the forms of business for when a new animal was being brought in to the school on the magical exchange.

Once he had got the basic hang of how things were run, he applied to be when of the trainers with Rehabilitation of magical creatures and was accepted straight away due to outstanding references.

For the last three years, Riley has dealt with a number of traumatized, and unruly animals. Training them, and caring for them at the Houston, Texas unit, and then delivering them when they are able to go out in to the world and be subjects in humane studies.

ROLEPLAY
Reply as your character to the following:

It was impossible for Dianne to stay out of trouble. It wasn't that she was looking for trouble, it's just that trouble always managed to find her. Today she wished she could find something equally familiar but more comforting.

The five-year old girl hugged her puffskein closer to her and brushed her face in its soft fur for comfort. She had named him herself and he was always her special pet. No she was certain she had never gone down this side street before. Her anxiety increased every second as darkness fell as she walked down the road. A loud noise came to her left and she buried her face in her pet's fur completely. The scared girl bolted the opposite way slamming the both of them into the wall of the nearest building. Tottering back a few steps she found a door a few feet to her right and ran to open it. What light there was inside spilled out into the darkness and she spilled into the room.

Once in, she was caught between the impulse to curl her cloak up more tightly around her and loosen her grip on it. She wasn't alone any more but she was now among strangers instead, which was nearly as terrifying. Her puffskein had recovered from the shock of the wall and now was purring contentedly as the girl hugged it, causing a mildly calming effect on the girl. Gathering her courage, she marched up to the nearest person, pulled on the nearest clothing hem and blurted out in a loud voice:

"I'm lost and it's dark and I wanted to know where I am but I'm not scared but I am worried that Sambundeakin is scared because he's little and needs something to eat and wants to go home."

She paused to draw a breath in her nearly never-ending sentence, "He misses my and his mommy."

To explain the scared girl held up the custard-colored puffskein. Sambundeakin the puffskein, however simply purred as if nothing on earth was wrong in the world.

Roleplay Response:
After the week he'd had, Riley needed a drink. And this strange little dive was the first place he had walked in to.

The lighting was rather dim, and the entire place had a thin veil of smoke covering it. He had hesitantly stood by the entrance for a couple of minutes as he tried to figure out if the joint was in fact legit, and not one of those strange clubs that weird men wandered in to.

Thankfully, it was legit.

He took a table at the back of the room, and kept himself to, himself. The place was rather crowded but not so full that a person could feel claustrophobic, or loud so they couldn't hear their own thoughts. No, it was pleasantly busy.

Glass of whiskey clasped loosely in the cradle of his hands, Riley Dean sat somewhat slumped in his chair. His arms resting on the table as he surveyed the room under the brim of his hat.

At the feel of something tugging at his clothing, he turned his head and glanced at the girl beside him. "Well, hey there little darlin'." Who the hell would bring a kid in to a place like this?

He twisted slightly, and listened to what she was saying. His eyebrow arched at her rush of words, and a grin caught on his lips as she held the puffskein up to him.

"Well, you're in a little bit of a pickle now, aren't you?" He pet the puffskein, scratching gently behind its ears. "You're in a..." what did the English call these places? Oh... "pub sweetheart, and it ain't the type of place a little girl should be, let alone this little ball of fluff." He smiled at the creature. "He don't seem very scared, so I wouldn't worry to much about him."

He pushed his half empty glass of whiskey in to the middle of the table, and turned fully to face her. "Tell you what, how about I help you find your ma and pa?" And if the girls parents weren't in the pub, or somewhere nearby he would just have to take her to the local authorities. What type of parents let there child go wandering? The little doll couldn't be more than five years old...

Standing he held his hand out for her to take. "Now, d'ya remember where you last saw your parents? If we go there, I'm sure they will be running around looking for you."
