Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: April Pink Orchid

Birthday: April 1st 1959

Hometown: Llanddeusant, Anglesey, Wales

Bloodline: Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one): Transfiguration

Year (pick two): Firstie preferable. If not, second year.

Biography:

I have no father. Well ... I do, but ... he doesn't live with us. Long story short ... Mom thought he was into her. He was ... some sort of supervisor of her at work. Some Ministry Department. As it turns out, all he wanted was her. I don't know why. Some ... male ego stupid thing.

She was pregnant with me when she found out. She quit the same day ... not before leaving a red mark on his face. Mom has a hard slap. Hell of a throw too. Which she put to good use to her next job opportunity ... She trialed for the Harpies. Spent most of the first season on the bench because ... well, obviously why. Baby on the way. Once I was out though ... it only took a month for the coach to give her the first chance.

Rumor has it the opposing team's Keeper didn't want to play against the Harpies if she was on the pitch for the following two seasons.

Well, nowadays, she's retired. Actually, being one of the Chaser Coaches for the Harpies.

Me? I kinda like the game. But, due to my above-average height, I kinda prefer the Keeper position instead. I know Hogwarts has Quidditch. Excited about that. Mom told me what it's like over there. Seems tough. Hopefully I can do alright.

And maybe prove that I am not just Mom's girl on the pitch.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: I'll leave it to the Hat.

Personality:

April doesn't particularly have a good opinion about boys. Mostly due to her Mom's experience. Nonetheless, she tries to be as good-natured as possible. She smiles a lot. Loves to fly, even though most of her experience had been on small brooms though.

She likes being around people, talking to them. Perhaps sharing common problems with them. She figures it's helpful if people can do that. Not much of a fan of the beach, but doesn't say a definitive no to it. Forgives easily ... but not too many times. Sort of like that saying: 'fool me once ...'. You know how it goes.

She likes reading, but not all that much. It takes a while for a thing to stick with her. Nonetheless, when not in the common room, you can probably find her in the library, reading quietly in a corner. Either that or sitting in the grass in the garden with a book in her lap.

Appearance:

April is a red-head with green eyes. Long hair just past her shoulders, but sometimes she puts it in a bun or a ponytail. Slim build, but rather tall at 5 feet. Looking rather imposing for an 11 year-old. It gives her a little bit of extra confidence, particularly when coming up against some no-goodnick. Sometimes the saying 'pick up on someone your own size' does fit here.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Roleplay Response:

It was a nice day outside. Hence why April had taken the opportunity to head into the garden with the Transfiguration textbook tagging along. She was still in catch-up mode when it came to this class. It was really bothering her that some of her classmates were so good at it, while she was unable to change the color of her robe. Which should've been something easy.

The red-head had no intention of giving up though. After a few muttered niceties in Welsh, April would pick herself up and carry on. At some point, she would have her breakthrough and it would probably be the best day of that month. Until then though, work would continue towards that successful moment somewhere in the distance.

There was movement in the grass. April looked a bit startled for a moment, but the noise ceased soon enough. However, about a minute later, someone approached and apparently cursed a rat. Oh ... might've been a rat that had gone through. Or maybe something else. Anyway, the cursing was followed by a loud sneeze. That prompted April to raise her head and look towards the disturbance.

It was Hugh. And his nose was causing him problems. The red-head looked rather sympathetically in his direction, as he was wiping his nose on his robes. His comment when spotting her wasn't terribly nice. The book fell off her lap as she stood up, all 5 feet of her. Looking rather threatening.

However, what followed was completely different. Her hand moved forward towards him, holding a napkin.

"I'm sure what you meant to say was ... 'Can I borrow your napkin, please?' Here you go." She added with a polite smile, not at all condescending.

Biography: (100 words minimum.)

Noel was trouble from the start.  His mother (Eliza) had a rough pregnancy with him that revealed beyond a doubt that this father (Bancroft) was a giant - a detail slipped in her complaints and related medical issues.  Bancroft had to deal with the fact he’d lied and said his height was due to a potions accident at the same time as dealing with Eliza having a tough pregnancy.  It was a time that his parents had a mutual agreement not to bring up as his mother thought Bancroft’s lie about not being a giant should have stopped decades prior.  It only lead to arguments and everyone, including Noel, knew better than to mention it.

Noel was supposed to be born in February, but his mothers Christmas stress turned into the beginning of her labor with him being born Christmas Day.  His mother’s reaction to that was to joke that he wanted to be named after her sister Noelle - who died in the war prior to his birth.

Taking Eliza joke seriously Bancroft dutifully put the name Noel Orville Carlisle on the paperwork at the hospital to be his name.  A detail that Eliza only found out about a couple years later filling out some official paperwork and laughed.  He was supposed to be named Orville Richard Carlisle after Eliza’s grandfather and Bancroft’s father.

What he knows of his early childhood is a series of funny stories told by his parents and their friends about him.

Eliza apparently bought him all clothes that were the largest size for baby fashion and then transfigured them to be smaller.  With more than one time those clothes having the transfigurations wear off causing awkward situations.  His favorite of these stories being the time he crawled out of them at a family party.

Bancroft apparently accidentally left him on a box of wizarding fireworks and he pulled on it enough to open the box and somehow ended up triggering one of them.  Thankfully, while it caused a mess of the warehouse knocking things over, he somehow bounced a bit with a giggle as he hit the floor.  Then stumbled his first steps going after the bright charmed firework that had the shape of a dragon before his father picked him up and put it out.

Noel’s first memory is the time that someone yelled enough at his father for being a giant and further soiling wizarding blood by having him.  It was the only time he saw his father pull a wand on someone and silenced them.  Spells were shot back and forth before his father apparated away.  Noel recounts the adventure, play-by-play minus the big adult words, any time he is given the opportunity as wizard duels are the coolest thing ever to him.

Noel loves splitting his time living in both England and France.  Something his mother uses to her advantage in just switching places for a bit when Noel’s pranking gets him into too much trouble so she can pretend to punish him for it - even if she slightly encourages it.

The worst of pranks he’s pulled is setting off a charmed star firework that turns into an angle in the air during the Christmas tree lighting in the Alps magical village they have their second home in.  If he weren’t six he probably would have been arrested by the Auror’s office for setting it off so close to people - instead his parent’s French warehouse was raided and multiple products were taken.  It was the only time his mother got truly mad at him.  Then his father stepped in and pointed out while they lost stuff it was the best advertising for their products in years.

The encouragement for pranks only got worse, but both his parents set limits and ensured that he wasn’t able to reach the more dangerous products that Mallory Prank Supply produced.

Roleplay Response:

He had seen a few boys flying on their brooms and immediately ran to his fathers friend house, who was babysitting him, and begged to borrow a broom.  After a small amount of begging and they handed him one of the full sized brooms figuring he’d do less damage on a broom than if he got in his mind to prank someone.  Even though he was eight he weighed too much to use the child brooms.

He then ran back to the park excited with a broom in hand hoping the boys he saw in the air would let him join in.

”…Do you want to play?”

Before he could get in the air he saw the girl who was obviously not in the air and likely closer to him in age.  He hadn’t noticed her before just having had noticed the boys who were flying in the air.

He said “ Sure, you want to fly with me.  An extra set of hands to get that snitch I see up there wouldn’t hurt. “  As he could recognize a toy broom when he saw one and knew it was useless.  Looking at the boys he realized he was likely their size or bigger so if he girl agreed all he’d have to do is fly after the snitch. Then he could have her grab the snitch while he nudged the other boys out of the way with there combined weight on the broom.

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Hawthorne Carroll

Birthday: 15 December 1958

Hometown: Hogsmeade

Bloodline:
Pureblood? (Child of 2 pureblood squibs)

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Charms

Year (pick two): First, Second

Biography:
It was his and Holly's birthday, as it had been several times before. But this year, it would be different. It was their 11th birthday, which meant Holly would be getting her letter and he wouldn't, confirming the fact that their days together were limited. In a few months, Holly would be heading out to Hogwarts, a place no one in his family had ever had the privilege of being able to go. But Holly had shown signs of magic from a very early age. They even had to have their family friends, the Reeds, fireproof their home because of her destructive temper tantrums as a baby.

But Thorne had never shown any sign of magic. Not even the smallest ounce. It was clear he had as much magic as his squib parents. But that was okay. He didn't mind that he was a squib. He just didn't like that he and Holly would be separated for the first time in their lives.

When an owl arrived with a letter addressed to Holly, it came as no surprise. Of course, Holly was excited, and Thorne frowned slightly. But while the family was celebrating, the oddest thing happened. A second owl arrived. Carrying another letter with the Hogwarts seal. But this one was addressed to Thorne.

Perhaps there'd been a mistake? Perhaps because he and Holly were twins they just assumed they were both magical? But his parents still celebrated and never questioned it. While Thorne was of course excited, he couldn't help but feel that something would go wrong, that he'd get a letter saying they'd made a mistake, or he'd get to Hogwarts and they'd wonder why he was there. Or, something else would go wrong because he wasn't actually a wizard.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: I'll leave it up to the hat

Personality:
Thorne is very logical-minded and enjoys working with his hands. He enjoys building all sorts of things from his Lego set, and learning how things work.

Thorne is fairly quiet and prefers observing others than engaging in conversation. He enjoys being around his small circle of friends, which includes his sister, Holly, and the Reed twins, who are practically family to him, but the idea of meeting so many new people at Hogwarts is very overwhelming to him.

Appearance:
Thorne is rather small in stature and has mousy brown hair and blue eyes, similar to his parents. He thinks his looks are an accurate representation of himself. A bit dull, boring, and nothing special.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Roleplay Response:
The dungeons had to be Thorne's absolutely least favourite part of the castle. It was dark and cold and damp all the time. But he had to practice his potion brewing. He was one of the worst in his class, and eventually, the teachers would probably think he was a fraud and kick him out. And now that he'd gotten to Hogwarts, he'd decided he really really liked being here.

But he felt all the professors expected him to do well, like Holly was. After all, they were twins. Shouldn't he at least be half as good as Holly was at magic? He was good at Herbology, of course, and really enjoyed Muggle Studies, but did very poorly at his magic-based classes.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The voice frightened Thorne at first, but then he realized it sounded familiar. He turned the corner and let out a sigh of relief when he saw a girl who was in some of his classes.

"Who's Emma Birch?" He asked the girl. He figured it was another student, possibly one of the girl's friends. "Is she a Slytherin?" He asked. He knew their dorms were down here, somewhere.

Application for Hogwarts School

CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Isaac Bicker

Birthday: 01/01/1959

Hometown: Ottery St Catchpole

Bloodline: HalfBlood

Magical Strength: Charms

Magical Weakness: Conjuring & Summoning

Year: First (second)

Biography:
Isaac didn't excel in school. he did his homework most of the time and had a few close friends. Overall Isaac was not a driven or active boy so you'd expect the average boy to be just that, average. but an owl came in July of 1970 and Isaac's goals and thirst for knowledge became what could only be described as ambitious. You see Isaac is a half-blooded wizard, but until his acceptance letter came he had no idea he was a wizard. Harry's mother is a muggle named Evelin Bricker. His father, Zakaria Yaxley a pureblooded squib. Zakaria was scared that he'd bear another squib and so chose to not tell Isaac about the wizarding world in order to save him from the disappointment he endured though he would never disown the boy like his father.

Evelin Bricker and Zakaria Yaxley worked together as local Police in Ottery St Catchpole. His dad took the job in 1957 with encouragement from his family to integrate with muggles, where he met Evelin Baker, his Partner and soon-to-be wife. Evelin chose to retire to raise Isaac and take up baking.

Isaac's first instance of magic was not overt. At the age of 6, he climbed into the back of his dad's locked cursor in order to "get the bad guys with daddy" and wasn't noticed until getting to work. Isaac had 3 other accidental magic flair-ups but none of them were strong and so went unnoticed, so that by the time Isaac got his Hogwarts acceptance letter the ink on the envelope was smudged by his father's joyful tears. After a long talk and a lot of crying, Isaac finally knew that he was a wizard, he finally knew why his dad watched him so closely, and he finally knew that come hell or high water he'd find the reason behind squibs and fix it.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request: Gryffindor

Appearance:
Isaac is an unobtrusive boy. At 147cm (4' 10") he is taller than most. With long dark brown hair and brown eyes, he tends to not stand out. With his lanky build and glasses. He often looks lost in thought or is rushing from one place to another.

Roleplay Response:
"Murlin! you scared me half to death. Evangeline is that you?" Isaac rounded the doorway to find his fellow first-year "What are you doing down here? our common room is... no neverminded forget I asked that. More importantly, how do I get out of here? Who is Emma Birch, A Slytherin?"

Isaac was sure he'd heard the name somewhere before. It would be nice if it was a Slytherin because the Dungeon is a maze and he was hopelessly lost.

"Thank goodness you came by. I was looking for a ghost to talk to but got myself turned around somehow. It's hard to pay much attention to direction with it being this creepy down here."

Isaac reached out a hand in greeting.

Hi Isaac!

Welcome to Hoggies!

Your application looks great and I can't wait to see Isaac around the board. There is just one thing we'll need you to change. You mention the Muggle/Squib integration program which didn't exist in our canon at the time. Since we don't want applications to conflict with existing canon (since we write in that era) and our active Ministry, we ask that you remove that reference to the Ministry's program.  You could just say that he applied with encouragement from others.

Once you have made that change, please reply here with your entire revised application.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or another staff member.

Thanks, and I can't wait to see you around the site!

"Murlin! you scared me half to death.

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Esmeralda Rocio Alricsson Wilding Lyons

Birthday: 30th of April, 1959

Hometown: Valencia, Spain

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Conjuring and Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): Firstie! (or second i guess??)

Biography:

Esme has, for the most part, lived a very charmed life.

Her father, though perennially busy, dotted on her the most. And her mother, while sage-like and stern when she needed to be, made sure she stayed on track to be fulfilled. She grew up without a need that wasn't met or a want that wasn't appeased. She had every sort of doll, toy, and trinket a child could ask for.

And yet, it did not really define her. She had an astute understanding that things were things and, while she did favor and like them, she liked people more. That, and magic.

More than even her brother, she dreamed of the time when she could start her magical journey and become a great witch like in the stories she read growing up. She wanted to fly around on a broom and shoot spells at evil doers, defending those that needed it.

When her letter finally came, she hung it up above her bed to her calendar and started counting down the days.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Not Gryffindor

Personality: For the most part, Esme is entirely cheery. She loves to smile and loves to laugh. Rightly as well, she can get vocal and angry and loud when someone is doing things wrong. She is quite social, always having been the one to organize the girls at parties to play or instigating a game. She likes to understand the world around her, and could undercut someone with a sharp tongue without the intent to be malicious.

For the most part, Esme is always here for a good time. Even if that means a little mischief.

Appearance: She is blonde-haired, modestly bronzed skin from living on the beach. She is average height, though much of everything else about her isn't. She has a bright, dimpled smile and takes care to present herself the best way possible with rich clothes and jewelry. Takes very much after her parents.

Roleplay Response:

The dungeons were wicked.

Esme didn't mind getting lost in them. She had been told they were damp, dark, and icky. During the Opening Feast, she'd even asked what she should expect from going down there and what areas should be avoided. Even more than the Forbidden Forest, she was warned the dungeons were no place to travel along.

Now, she couldn't rightly understand why.

Sure, there was the possibility that she could find a path near the potions lab and a poorly-brewed potion might explode. Or she could fall down a chute and find herself falling into an underground pool. Perhaps one of the older Slytherins would be in a foul mood and decide to leave the wayward first-year dangling by her ankle in the air for the remainder of the day.

The rewards for her outweighed said risks. She wanted to experience everything, which included these desolate, dimly-lit corridors. The thing she hadn't planned for was someone else doing the same thing and not having her same bright outlook.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The voice sounded shaky. Esme had been happy to walk around in the darkness, but now she took out her wand and cast a, "Lumos!"

"Hi," she said in greeting, letting the light from her wand flood the space between them. She didn't know this girl, not yet at least, though she looked to be near her age. Esme smiled, hoping to disarm any trepidation that might have come from running into a stranger in the dark.

"Is that a friend of yours? Are you looking for her?" Her offer to help hung in her tone, though she didn't outright say it.
