CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Calix Glass

Gender: Female

Age: Thirteen

Bloodline: Pureblood

Parents/Guardians: Calix’s parents died of dragon pox when she was three. Her and her younger brother were taken in and raised by their aunt and uncle. Calum and Lorna Calix are well known in the highlands by the community of wizards and witches who reside there. Lorna has a reputation as the best and worst woman to go drinking with, and Calum compliments his wife with a quieter, more grounded nature. Both Calum and Lorna love their niece and nephew as if they were their own, as they never had children of their own. They never tried to replace their lost parents, but rather filled the void with empathy and guidance as they strove to raise the children as best they could.

Residence: Calix lives with her brother, aunt, and uncle in the Isle of Skye. They enjoy the pastoral life of the Scottish Highlands. Lorna owns and operates the family farm and distillery that have belonged to her family for generations. When not tending the herd of cattle, she is notorious for brewing, and generously sampling, the island’s finest whiskey. Calix and her brother grew up on the large estate, playing wildly outdoors as the shaggy heard of cattle grazed nearby.

Biography:

Lorna and Calum fostered a deep sense of kindness and compassion in Calix as a young child, and they have become a guiding moral compass for her. She has a close relationship with her brother, in spite of the difference in their ages, and she confides in him often. She loves her aunt and uncle dearly, finding solace and comfort in the easy relationship she shares with them. A small, quiet part of her longs for the fragmented, distant memories of her parents, and she will often leave small gifts for them, whether it’s knotted twigs by the river, or a river-polished stone in a soft bed of moss. A natural leader, she is quick to make friends and generally easy to get along with. Growing up in the outdoors fostered an innate fearlessness, and an almost oblivious disregard for own mortality. She risks herself needlessly, and often carelessly, with little thought to the consequences. Calix prefers to be outside, engaged in physical activities, whether it’s exploring nature, flying, or tending to the magical creatures that wander onto her aunt and uncle’s land. She will complete her school work out of sense of duty, but restlessness nags at her if she remains indoors for too long.

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Calix inhaled, savouring the taste of the clear, clean air. Movement caught her gaze, and she glanced up at the three boys zooming through the sky. A grin tugged at the corner of her mouth as their shouts of excitement drifted down to where she stood. She tracked their progress as they flew, the snitch a tiny spark of glinting gold as he fingers itched for a broom that was miles away.

John, I said wait up!” a shrill voice cried. Calix shifted her gaze to the small girl, wailing her resentment as she tugged at the broom. Calix smiled again, a mixture of amusement and sympathy twisting in her eyes. She remembered all too keenly the frustration of her own first toy broom, tethered too close to the earth when the clouds swirled so invitingly above. She stifled her chuckle as the girl was tipped to the ground.

Calix blinked as the girl fixed her blue eyes on her. You! Do you want to play?” The friendly smile returned to Calix’s mouth, and she shrugged. “Sure,” she answered simply, as she walked over to the girl. She reached out to pull the broom from where the little girl had stuck it in the ground. She winked conspiringly. “Let’s see if we can get this thing to fly a little higher.”
