Biography: (300 words minimum.)

Verona's father hails from Switzerland, where the main branch of the Dettlaff family resides. He was introverted, but sharp-witted, preferring the company of dusty books and heavy tomes. He didn't have many friends, and the few ones he had drifted away after graduation.

He quickly moved to Italy, where he found a job as an administrative assistant in the Italian ministry. There, he met Verona's mother, his wife-to-be, and (according to him) the love of his life. She was his complete opposite. She was outgoing, (obviously) pretty, and an aspiring quidditch player. However, there was a catch, as it so often happens. She was a mudblood.

Eyes met, sparks flew, and the young boy waged war with himself to swallow the elitist in him to profess his love. In the end though the heart beat the brain and a beautiful relationship began.

The pairing generated considerable backlash, but there are a few perks to being the fourth son. No one really cares about what you do. After years of courtship and ignoring letters from his father, they settled in Verona. They had their child soon after. She was named Verona after the city in which they had fallen in love.

The pink faced girl came into the world quiet as a mouse, barely struggling, and the first moments of her life foretold how she would live her life. Verona resembled her mother in appearance, but inside she was her father's daughter. Quiet, introverted with an exceptionally sharp tongue, she lived Hogwarts exactly how her father did.

The only difference from him was that she found solace in animals instead of books. During moments of recess, she would visit the Menagerie, or pretend to converse with the mer people of the black lake. She would do her schoolwork in the owlery, and eat lunch in the garden, away from people.

After she graduated, she became a Magizoologist, specialising in the sirens of the Mediterranean Sea. Her work took her to Greece, where she finally found someone she could really connect with. Agnes Remes was the first person who really understood her, and the first person she loved. Yet Verona's own insecurities caught up with her and the the words never left her lips. Agnes would say that they were best friends, but to Verona it was never enough.

Of course, this meant that her world crashing down when Agnes showed her the ring on her finger. Instead of supporting her friend, Verona selfishly pushed her away and became trapped in self-pity. She lost her job, lost her home and promptly returned to Italy, invading her home of her younger and more successful sister.

As it turns out, life actually gives second chances, and a job offer came from the British ministry of magic. With a bit of goading from her sister, Verona accepted it. A new beginning of sorts, though she knew deep down that she would squander it again.

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Roleplay Response:

The sea of wizarding folk passing through Diagon Alley was enough to put Verona on edge. The blonde kept her head down admist the swarm of people and hoped that no one would notice her. It's bad enough already that she had to wade through the crowd. Verona couldn't bear the thought of talking to some clueless person about bowtruckles or whatever.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!”

The sudden cry of help captured her attention, and Verona couldn't help but roll her eyes at whoever said it in the first place. Two reasons, mainly. One, Merlin's fog watch was too long to proper accentuate her particular predicament. Two, everyone in Diagon Alley knew magic. The witch who lost the shoe could just Accio the Reparo the thing without playing the damsel in distress.

Still, Verona reminded herself that she was here for a new start. A chance to become a better person. Tentatively, she picked up the footwear and walked towards the witch, muttering apologies at the half dozen or so people she bumped into along the way. Upon reaching her, Verona did her best effort at a smile, which probably came out as a slight frown.

"Hi. I assume this is your shoe?" she said, holding it out for the other witch. Verona quickly took note of the witch's equipment, attire and demeanour.

'A writer? Probably not, who writes in the middle of a crowded street? A ministry employee? Probable, but not really. A journalist, perhaps? Could be, judging by the quill and notepad.'

Her train of thought was cut by the realisation that she had been staring at this girl's face for several seconds. With a nervous chuckle, Verona continued the (somewhat one-sided) conversation.

"Well, c'mon. Hup hup! We can't have a star reporter like you hindered by a booboo. What if the minister is plotting with aurors to control the wandmaking monopoly?"
