Biography:
Tessa stared at the long wooden table in front of her. Her hands sat neatly folded in her lap, where they were trained to be. Sitting on the table was a cool glass of water. Tessa was more interested in the ice than the water. Her father always got angry at her for chewing ice.

To her right, sat her little brother Theodore. The child of eight years was tapping his fingers on the table, as though her were playing the drums. Tessa wished he would stop. The annoying little boy had no musical talent whatsoever, and he was just disturbing her thoughts. Theodore was always annoying Tessa. He always wanted her to play hide and go seek with him when Tessa would rather write.

Across the table from her sat her older sister Mary. The sixteen year old was a squib, and therefore considered a disappointment. She spent her days looked in the house, as though she never existed. Having a squib would bring shame among the family. It was the last think her parents wanted. Mary would give Tessa advice, as Mary read books and understood the world. Tessa would tell Mary about her life, as Mary missed out on living.

Sitting at the head of the table was all the children's father, James. He stared down at them with a firm face. Receiving affection from their father was rare. He was into politics, though Tessa had no idea what he did. The children only saw him at dinner. He left for work before they woke up, so he was absent from all their memories.

The children's mother, Rose sat on James's left. She was an artist, and stay at home mom, even though she hardly took care of the children. The woman was rather timid, and hid in her room painting all day. The children were cared for by Helen, the nanny. She was very nice to them, though she could sometime be firm. The children adored her, and considered her their real mother.

One of the maids placed a salad in front of Tessa. She grabbed her fork, eagerly. She was hungry, but wasn't allowed to eat to much food. They had a cook that made the dressing himself. They had a lot of servants that occupied their big manner. For her first two years, she was homeschooled in the manor. She hated having private tutors and no classmates. Tessa was just glad to be leaving it for Hogwarts.

The gardens reminded her of home.

They had a hole gardening staff to maintain the integrity of their beautiful landscape. Tessa was particularly fond of roses, with their beautiful exterior and sweet aroma. When she was a child, she would try to pick the roses, and result in in a cut from the thorns. Tessa liked Roses, but they didn't like her back.

It wasn't that she was homesick, it was that she missed Mary. Her squib sister was her best friend, and Tessa needed her. They would sit in the bay window and talk. They would often quarrel, but they were still friends. What Tessa missed most was sitting in the gardens with her sister. At least the flowers surrounding her emulated those memories.

And then the rat came to disturb her peace.

She watched in scurry out as a boy. Tessa didn't really mind the disturbance. People lost their pets all the time. These little beasts were fast, and easy to loose track of. Sure, it was annoying, but it was also understandable. She wasn't angry in any way.

The boy came out and chased the rat, and Tessa watched in amusement. It was like a scene from a movie. The boy turned at looked at her as he wiped his nose. Tessa held back a face of disgust.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare?"

Tessa's mouth opened in shock of the rude statement. "I.. uhh." She tried her best to force out a response, but she had nothing to say yet. Shock melted into anger and she found herself quite annoyed. "And it's not polite to loose your rat and make a spectacle out of yourself." The third year adjusted her robes and glared at him. If he apologized, all would be fine and her anger would disappear. If he didn't, she would have to keep herself from punching the older student.
