Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Artemis Marquis

Birthday: July 28th 1941

Hometown: Dublin

Bloodline: Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): FOURTH pleaseeeeeee. Or 5th.

Biography:

The legend of Polly and Artie was simple…

They were born as twins because there was simply too much energy and mischief to fit into only one person. But their bond was so strong that at times it seemed as though they really were one person. Identical sisters whose lives revolved around each other and adventure.

Artemis was very good at adapting. Their family took part in both muggle and wizarding branches of government. Which meant very little to Artie except that it meant dad wasn’t around much because he was very busy. But, unbeknownst to her, it made her comfortable around the well-to-dos of both the muggle and wizarding communities. She was no expert at behaving herself. But she was good with concealing the magical parts of her when she needed to.

If anything, having a busy family only strengthened the bonds between her and her sister. One of the many great things about having a twin was that, while they shared most everything, they had different strengths and weaknesses and they were always helping each other get stronger. Where Polly was the planner, Artemis relied more on thinking on her toes. But they learned from each other. There would come a time when Artemis would need to separate herself from her twin. At least that was what her parents told them. But she couldn’t see that happening any time soon. It was an unthinkable prospect.

Her first few years at Hogwarts were wicked and wild. The adventure junkee found all types of things to get her hands into including pranks, trips to the Forbidden Forest and dungeon exploring. Friendly and outgoing, Artie made plenty of friends and spent more than her fair share of time in detention. It was all worth it though. What was life without a little bit of trouble?

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

The dungeons were creepy, for sure. But Artie liked creepy things. Sometimes. A good scare was plenty of fun. The quickening of her pulse, the way the little hairs on the back of her neck stood up… it was a differnent kind of scary than, say, cliff diving. But she loved it all. This kind of fear was more of a mind game than anything. Once you let yourself get worked up too much?

Game over. Go home.

But it would take more than silly ghost stories to send her running for the hills. Not when a dare was on the line. She always won truth or dare. So she walked down the deserted damp corridor, fingers trailing against the stone wall, carefully keeping her head, safe in the thought that nothing really terrible ever happened at Hogwarts. Right? Emma Birch was nothing more than a myth created to keep kids in their beds at night.

It took her about two seconds to realize she wasn’t alone after all, and she ducked into the shadows, crouched down, a grin forming on her lips. This was going to be fun.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

“Yesssss,” she groaned, adding a gravelly texture to her voice as if she hadn’t spoken aloud in many many years. And then she growled louder, “WHO DARES DISTURB MY ETERNAL SLEEEEEP!?”

Hands clapped over her mouth, Artie suppressed the giggles threatening to reveal the joke.

Momma Marquis was always trying to tame her wild children but it just couldn’t be done.

Artie would put her skirt on and still climb that tree. What was stopping her?

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Artie twirled around, arms spread wide, hair flying out behind her as she spun around and around in the sunlight until she fell over into the grass. It tickled her skin and she giggled a bit as she glanced up at the sky. The clouds were spinning, or so they seemed to be. Maybe she’d overdone the twirling around bit just a little. Oh well. Dancing clouds were fun.

As the clouds slowly stopped swirling, Artie kicked her shoes off and ran her feet over the grass, still laying on her back. She just loved being outside. The only thing that would make this moment even better would be if her sister would show up. Which she very well could. Polly had a way of showing up at the randomist of times.

“You!”

“WHAT!?” she shouted, pulling herself into a sitting position and eyeing the demanding girl who’d spoken.

“…Do you want to play?”

“Oh!” Artie said, grabbing for her shoes and quickly shoving her feet into them. If the girl had a game of tag or a race in mind, Artemis certainly wasn’t going to be caught at a disadvantage, “Sure! Betcha I win though? Betcha um…” she hastily tied her laces, “12 chocolate frogs, yeah?”
