Keziah Zsofka

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Born of a heated exchange between two strangers, Zailey has lived a life atypical of her fellow witches. Abandoned at an orphanage at birth, raised by a crumbling couple, and eventually adopted by a charming couple; there is nothing about Zailey or her upbringing that would have ever indicated she was destined for great things in her short lifetime.

At the age of three, Zailey was whisked away to London by Boris and Anya Petrova. Ex-pats of Russia, they had merely returned in the search for a child of their own; a daunting yet fulfilling task. Growing up in a seemingly normal community, Zailey was a stranger to the magical world until the sudden departure of her beloved adopted parents. Unbeknownst to her, she had a magic-laden pedigree and was the only Petrova survivor of the Time Warp.

With her entire world gone and only the briefest of fuzzy memories to serve as snippets of her family; Zailey wandered for a brief period of time (scavenging to get by) until she was taken in by a lovely (magical) family that had endured their own slew of losses (mainly fostered children). It was in their home that she was welcomed, nurtured, and eventually forgot the life she had once had with Boris and Anya. It was there that she received her letter and a whole new world opened up to her.

In 1944, Zailey began attending school at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. Sorted into Slytherin, she became active in Spellbound and Quidditch. In 1946, her biological mother, Izolda, came into her life as a Professor. By 1947, Zailey had gained both a biological father, Ivan, and a twin, Zander. She graduated from Hogwarts in 1951 where she was neither a prefect nor Head Girl.

After spending her first three year's post-education abroad in Hungary, Zailey returned to London with her daughter, Keziah. Living in a small flat, she has raised the young girl entirely on her own working both muggle and magical jobs alike. Her husband, Sandor, was killed shortly after Keziah's second birthday. She has never remarried.

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Option Two -
The snow had been falling steadily all morning and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Joshua Campbell scrunched his face up in a frown as he lifted his gaze to look to the sky. Snow. It really was quite a bother.

And it certainly didn't make it better that Diagon Alley seemed to be getting more and more crowded. Joshua sighed and pointed his wand at the large box that was currently placed on the doorstep of his shop. He had to get going. He had an order to deliver.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" The elderly man muttered and watched the box hover in the air for a moment. Honestly, did St. Mungo's really need that much tinsel? And with glitter of all things? He sighed again. If it hadn't been for the rather convincing stamp on the order, he would have been likely to believe it had been a prank by one of those orphaned rascals living up there.

Oh well, there was no point in waiting. Joshua deftly stirred the box down the doorstep and out onto the street, carefully levitating it above the heads of the crowd.

"Coming through! Coming through!" His voice sounded over the chatter of the crowd. "Keep out! Move ahead! Go on!" This was going way too slow. People were in the way and walking like they had all day! He huffed. Luckily the road was down hill.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!" Joshua let out a loud shout as his feet suddenly slipped in the snow and sent him, the box, and several long strands of tinsel tumbling into the person who had been walking in front of him.

"For Merlin's sake!" Joshua muttered angrily as he hurried to his feet again, red and gold tinsel now decorating his black coat. "I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" He looked apologetic at the person he had crashed into.

Roleplay Response:
The piece of paper had been crumpled and ran through, what looked like, a pile of dirt. The brunette female slowly meandered down the street of Diagon Alley, eyeing the different buildings as she tried to relocate the club she had visited weeks before. "Was it here?" she muttered to herself, standing doubtfully in front of a blacked out window.

As quickly as she had made up her mind to enter, Zailey could hear the cries of a woman in distress and her eyes quickly moved to locate the source. Pushing her way past the crowd, she spotted Amelia on the cobblestones and gestured for her to grab onto her open hand. "Is your heel alright?" she inquired before stuffing the paper into her pocket and offering a smile.

Zailey had only been back a few years but she could've sworn she recognized her face. As people shuffled past them she lamented how London had changed so drastically and yet it also felt like it had never changed at all. "Maybe we can fix that!" She exclaimed, withdrawing her wand from the pocket of the velvet robe she wore. It would be worth the try.

SHOPKEEPER PERMIT

Shop name: Séance
Shop Type: Nightclub
Location: Knockturn Alley
Subforum? Yes

Short Description (50 words max): A opulent underground nightclub operating under the premise of a simple hotel.
Long Description (200 words min): There is nothing special about the outside of Séance, aside from the flashy sign that decorates the small space above a black wooden door. To the common rambler, Séance is just another place for the weary to rest their heads. A blip on the map of Knockturn Alley. Like most things, however, Séance is more than meets the eye.

Upon entering the establishment, patrons will be greeted by the front desk clerk. The small foyer consists of two emerald velvet armchairs and a black wooden desk; behind the desk a large board with various keys, notes, and slots for guests' mail. On the immediate left is a small kitchenette that offers pastries and beverages for guests between seven and nine in the morning. To the right, steep wooden stairs that curl up into the second floor and play host to six rooms, another set of stairs on the second floor leads up the the third floor where the owner resides.

Each room in Séance is decorated to reflect the personal style of its former owner, Viktoria Borovsky. Large black four-poster beds dressed with crisp white linens and luxurious emerald green accents are found in each room; windows are treated with flowing satin curtains reminiscent of her Slytherin days and a large chandelier illuminates the space. Each room has its own private bathroom and a private entrance into the heart of Séance, where the real fun is.

When guests are ready to indulge themselves in all Séance has to offer, they simply flourish their wand and utter the words 'primum non nocere' and a door, leading to a spiral staircase, will emerge and the festivities truly begin.

The heart of Séance is actually located beneath the foyer of the first floor; the walls have been painted black so that the acts appear to pop off the stage (some of them actually do!). In the middle of the large room, a round stage that allows viewing from a full 360-degree angle; the stage itself plays host to a variety of props and scenes. Around the stage, strategically placed tables that hold anywhere from 2-6 patrons.

Each table is lined with deep emerald linens and illuminated by clusters of candles that remain suspended in the air. In the back of the room, a full-service bar. Séance is Knockturn's best kept secret and most exclusive club; shows occur nightly and they are always looking for more talent.

What purpose will this shop serve other than selling things and being the home of your character? Why would people want to RP there just for fun? It can serve as a safe haven for those want all the dark and mystery without the dangers other locations have to offer.

Hi!

Clearly math is not our strong suit around here. It's 23, not 26. Zailey is 23. As for her levels, that is perfectly alright. :D

Thanks! <3

The dungeons had become home, Zailey found herself already morose about the thought of leaving them behind.

Carefully she sauntered down a damp corridor, fingers tracing the carefully etched surfaces of stones that had not seen the light of day for many centuries. Every nook and cranny of the dungeons explored to the best of her effort. The thought of the real world and what awaited her, or potentially didn't, sent a shiver of excitement and fear up the lone girl's spine.

Girl--she was on the verge of becoming a woman.

As she slowly slipped into a trance, the gentle trickling of water lulling her into a blissful awareness, it was then she heard the faintest of voices calling out to the ghosts of her past.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

Emma Birch, a name that hadn't crossed Zailey's mind for several years. Emma Birch, the girl who left too soon; her death had proceeded the oppression by the Hexenreich. The older Slytherin could still recall the way her body crumpled to the floor as an Unforgivable stole away the last of her life force. An entire generation would graduate from Hogwarts this year, the last generation to have had contact with the infamous Emma Birch.

"No," Zailey responded suddenly, "you won't find an Emma Birch down here. Only a one-way ticket to Detention unless you make yourself conveniently disappear."

She thought she heard quickly fading footsteps, but down here you could never tell.

« on: 02/05/2015 at 15:07 »
Blondelle had been watching and waiting, having followed the young reporter from a distance for quite some time, and knew the moment to strike was when the iron was hot. Seeing the reporter go down, Blondelle was quick on her feet to move through the crowded streets of Diagon Alley; if there was ever an opportunity to present itself, this was it. "Excuse me! Excuse me!" she called out, bumping into several people and she waded through arguments and chatter. Coming up on the young woman, Blondelle tried her best to clear a space around them to no avail. Sticking out her hand, she offered to help the woman up. By no means was Blondelle a large creature, but her German heritage had left her with a stout stance that had always come in handy when she had to show her older siblings who was really the boss of the Chantrice clan.

Blondelle offered her a warm smile. It was the kind of smile that lit up the entire face and made the eyes seem much brighter than they actually were. Her white teeth gleamed in the sunlight that filtered through the signage of Diagon Alley and Blondelle imagined, just now, that her hair must look like some kind of golden halo. "Hi.." she began before clearing her throat to continue, "I'm Ulrica..Ulrica Chantrice. You can call me Blondelle though.." Suddenly, she realized she had yet to relax her hand and blushed sheepishly as she quickly released and thrust her hands behind her back. Looking to the ground, she could feel the heat in her cheeks. She was such a klutz sometimes.

Looking back on her childhood, she could easily recognize all the signs that should have stood out but were chalked up to coincidence.

The oldest of a set of twins, Zailey has had no contact with her biological sibling and hopes that one day she will be afforded the opportunity to recognize them in the halls of Hogwarts. Her only companions growing up were a calico cat named Jack and a short-lived chocolate labrador puppy named Ella; the by-product of a migc related accident that went unrecognized for many years. Her parents, Boris and Anya, run a small Russian restaurant and bakery (Petrova's) in an older district of London; the business has thrived thanks to the settling of Russians in the community.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: No Preference

Personality: Zailey is a young, ambitious witch with an unusual streak of intelligence. Anything she sets her mind to, she can and will accomplish (even if she goes absolutely crazy doing it). At times, Zailey can come off aloof and disconnected but it is all part of her quirky charm; she will talk to anyone, about anything, sometimes at the most inappropriate times and it doesn't seem to faze her. If there is a joke to be made or an opportunity to brighten someone's day, she will seize the moment without a second of hesitation. Most would deem her outgoing, but her personality is a far-cry from 'popular'. Sometimes her sense of humor and her studious habits can take on a dark edge that some just don't appreciate.

“Oh, come now!"

Astrid Bixby’s voice carried down the corridor, the tall blonde girl not far behind. Her interviewee – or victim, depending on perspective – turned a corner and she frowned. They were always so elusive when she needed them. Sure, they would talk as if there was no tomorrow during class, but once she actually needed them to say something, they were nowhere to be found. Gryffindors.

Flustered, Astrid stopped in the middle of the corridor and stared, her parchment hanging limply from her hand. She was a good reporter, really, and she always did her best to make sure that everything she wrote was accurate. She glanced down to the quill, eyeing it with disdain. It wasn't her fault if her quill misquoted. How was she supposed to know? It made for interesting articles, at least, and if she had misquoted the Head Boy last term as saying he had a love for stuffed animals, then that gave him personality. Astrid sighed.

A pout formed on her lips as she turned away, discouraged. The corridor was mercifully empty, though the doors to The Spellbound – the school newspaper – were ominously closed. Corbridge was a mercifully sweet editor, but Astrid was terrified of disappointing her all the same. She had to come back with quotes.
Her eyes, blue, trailed her surroundings before choosing a new path, and she turned down a new corridor. A figure was ahead, and her eyes lit up, an impossibly rosy smile blossoming across her lips.

“Hey!” Astrid called, her voice light and singsong. She trotted to catch the person, her shoes clicking on the stone floor. “Wait up! It’s for the paper!” Her legs aided her admittedly poor running, and Astrid gasped as she came closer. “What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

Zailey came to an abrupt stop, her concentration ruined by the shrill 'hey' from Astrid Bixby as she jaunted towards her. Eyeing her warily, Zailey double-checked her surroundings to confirm that she was the person Astrid was actually interviewing. Had it been any other day, the young raven-haired girl would have presented the older student with a satisfactory answer; unfortunately, Zailey had been so surprised and flustered that the only words she could manage to squeak out were "disgusting" and "bloody hell". Silently, she hoped that those two phrases would not be splashed on the front page.

Gathering her wits about her, the first year managed to clear her throat before attempting to answer Astrid's question. "I-I uh, I think frog legs are a horrendous choice. What's attractive about chopping off the upper body, skinning, and cooking a creature that is unsanitary and amphibious?" She inquired, noting to herself that there were many times growing up that she had partaken in a delicacy that she now abhorred. Flushing, she stared at Astrid with a rather blank look and awaited her reply.

You see, that was the funny thing about reporters. If they could get one answer out of you, they never stopped asking. Coincidently, they would hound you to death (literally) and then turn right around and publish your obituary and a great big front-page piece about how they either witnessed or inadvertently caused this tragedy. They didn't have boundaries, or even guidelines, they just kept pursuing until they were satisfied (which was rarely ever). Zailey hoped that her blank stare and sufficient answer would be enough to put off Astrid and send her packing.
