Biography:
Humming to herself as she peers out the train window, Sophie is the picture of contentment. She sighs to herself and wonders how birds stay aloft when they aren't flapping their wings. When they are flapping? Could she fly, if she moved her arms the right way? Were her bones too heavy? Her mother had always told her that she had bird bones, but that didn't seem quite right. Shouldn't she be lighter, if her bones were that small? Bones were weird.

It was summer and Sophie was on a short trip with her parents before they decided to have her switch schools. There had been an argument that she didn't really understand at all, and anyway it didn't matter to her where she went to school. Her father had said she was vacuous, and Sophie smiled and nodded in agreement. How could her brilliant father be wrong? Her mother had yelled back at him about "Sophie is
right there" and how could he say something like that about their beautiful, accomplished daughter? Sophie smiled and nodded at her mother as well. How could her beautiful mother be wrong?

"It doesn't matter to me where I go to school," Sophie said, bright as a ray of sunshine. She would miss her friends, and she would miss her instructors, always ready to heap praise on her for being one of the most ladylike girls in attendance. If she played her cards right, they had told her, she would be Head Girl in her final year. Sophie didn't know how to play cards, but it sounded like it could be fun.

"She's already mastered charms well above her year, Harold!" her mother had snapped at him. "She gets the highest marks in her class in charms and transfiguration and herbology as well as etiquette, poise, and refinement!"

Sophie nodded, her posture impeccable.

"Amelia!" Her father sounded exasperated. Perhaps she should make him some tea. "She is an emptyheaded simpleton! It doesn't matter if she knows how to do every spell in the book, she has no thoughts of her own beyond inanities that make everyone feel uncomfortable."

"That's not true!"

"Sophie dear," her father said, all pleasantness. "What were you telling me this morning?"

"If you're waiting on a waiter, does that make you a waiter?" Sophie asked, an expression of thoughtful unconcern on her face.

Her mother sighed. Father had won. She was going to Hogwarts.

She wondered if they would about birds there.

Personality:
Sophie is an accomplished and talented witch and lady, but is often found with her head in the clouds. Her thoughts seem a but esoteric to most people, but very little troubles her. Indeed, when she is upset by something, it is expressed with a childlike innocence. Slights are almost immediately forgotten, if they even register, which they usually don't.

Appearance:
Platinum blonde with big, brown eyes and pale, almost ethereal skin.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Over lunch, someone had told Sophie about the ghost. She had been described as creepy and gruesome and someone had told her that Emma Birch would eat her heart just like her heart had been torn out by an evil shapeshifting demon!

"I bet she has an amazing moan," Sophie said brightly, finding a place where praise could be easily inserted. The scariest ghosts always had the best moans, and the dungeons would be a great place to hear them. The way sounds bounced around like little baby chicks. It would be so cute.

And so, wanting to be welcoming and friendly, Sophie set out in search of the Emma Birch. It must be lonely in the dungeon. Perhaps she would be happy to have some company. After a while though, Sophie was starting to feel like she was looking for her in the wrong place. There wasn't even a hint of a ghost down there. There was a girl though. She looked a little worried. Because she was asking for Emma Birch too, Sophie decided she couldn't be the ghost, but perhaps she needed a friend? It was a good enough reason to look for a ghost.

"I'm not sure she's down here," Sophie said as she came up behind the girl, bright and cheery as always. "Or maybe she's hiding..." Sophie wondered why a ghost would want to hide. They mist be dreadfully bored, what with eternity to live out without any friends from your real life around. Finger to her chin, her eyes glazed over a bit as she stared unconsciously up and to the right, tongue between her teeth.

It was a lot to think about.
