Name:
Farrah Reeves

Birthday:
January 3, 1936 (age 14)

Hometown:
Bodie, California

Bloodline:
Muggleborn / Halfblood / Pureblood / Unknown

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two):
1, 2

Biography:
If you are applying to be a first, second, or third year, your biography must be at least one hundred words long.
If you are applying to be a fourth year or above, your biography must be at least three hundred words long.

I was originally born in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. By the age of five I had lost my sister to a quidditch accident, and my brother in a potions accident. My family is kind of prone to magical mishaps but I am determined to be different. And I already am! When I was 7 I moved to Bodie, California in the US. My mother and father insisted on going to a place where hardly anyone lived. This is because my other sister got angry and turned a boy in our class into a warthog. I didn’t really have any friends growing up, it was just my mom, dad, sister and me. We had lost everything. My powers weren’t kicking in just yet and mother got upset. She thought I was going to be the strongest witch in the family. I went into a deep depression when I was around 10 and I had to keep my calm around my sister because otherwise my mom would yell at me for making her upset. When I turned 11 I got accepted to Ilvermorny in MA. One year, I went home for summer break and my dad wasn’t there to greet me like he usually did. I asked my mom where he went and she told me that he had left because she was mental. My mom came down with  a case of Youth Dementia, where dementia occurs much earlier in life. She told me to get out of her house the next day, because she didn’t know who I was. I tried to explain to her that I’m her daughter, but she took a knife from the kitchen, and I got scared and ran away. I still had the little bit of money  from my stash for the train rides and went and found a job. I had to tell them I was 13 when I was only twelve so they would give it to me. I went to Ilvermorny until my third year and got top grades each year. I then recieved a letter from Hogwarts asking if I’d like to enroll and now here I am, doing it. I worked very hard and now have a good fund for myself and my sister if she finds me. I still communicate with her but very rarely. I truly believe that I can bring a lot to Hogwarts and I hope that my magic will be appreciated there. I do believe my sister is applying as well, although she does not get the best grades. I do have a somewhat special talent - I know some parseltongue. I used to know it all, but my dad said it meant I was a descendant from Salazar Slytherin and wouldn’t let me speak to snakes. So I lost some of my skill but I can still figure out what they’re saying most of the time. I think this will be a great place for me to show my passion for magic and improve my skills because of the opportunities you provide for your students.

House Request:
Slytherin

Personality:
Tell us a bit about your character’s personality (likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) What are they like on a good day versus a bad one? Is your character particularly cheerful? Do they hate sunlight?
I love walks in Autumn, the trees speak to me as they blow in the wind. I like to work out, run, sports in general. I would love to play quidditch one year. I have a deep fear of confrontation and failure. I will normally be seen as moody but if you catch me on a good day there may be a smile. On good days I like hanging out with friends, going out, just overall doing stuff. On bad days… I prefer to stay home alone and do nothing, and if you talk to me I will most likely snap at you unless I really need to control myself. I would control myself in front of a professor or a parent/guardian. I don’t particularly like sunlight, but I don’t hate it…? I hate when people think they’re good wizards when they truly mess up every spell and I hate messing up while doing magic. I constantly get myself down telling myself I’m a terrible wizard but truth is… I’m the best one in the Reeves family at least!

Appearance:
Briefly describe your character's appearance (hair color, build, stature, etc.) What effect does it have on their personality? For example, does the shy Ravenclaw girl secretly dye her hair black because she hates her natural blonde? Does the curly-haired Gryffindor use charms to hide his freckles?
I have pastel lavender hair and it’s long and wavy. I have blue eyes and long eyelashes. My looks affects my personality because I hide behind the color of my hair. I think that if I have bold hair people will see me as a bold person when in reality, I’m hiding from my self-esteem issues. When I see girls in jeans I tend to say “why can’t I look like that?” but I have come to accept that that’s just the way I am. My hair is never a natural color. My favourites to die my hair are blue, purple and red.Often times people don’t recognize me after changing hair colours.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

“Hello?” Farrah responded, “Who’s there?”

“M-My name is Evangeline, are you Emma Birch?”

“No, I was hoping you were. My Slytherin ‘friends’ told me I had to come down here and find her.”

“Some Gryffindor girls did the same to me”

There was another loud bang on the wall and both girls jumped.

“Where are you?” asked Evangeline, “I can’t see you!”

“Say something and I’ll follow your voice.”

Farrah followed the sound to get to Evangeline. The two girls looked each other up and down.

“I love your hair!” said Evangeline

“Thank you so much!” Farrah responded excitedly, “You have nice eyes, they’re so blue, they’re beautiful.”

There was another loud thump and the girls jumped together. After a long discussion, they decided to go down and find out what it was to get it over with faster. They walked towards the noise and were practically holding hands. They turned the corner and…

“BOO!” it was one Slytherin girl, one Slytherin boy and one Gryffindor girl
“You didn’t actually believe the story did you?” asked the boy

“No! Of course not!” Farrah responded, obviously lying

“Yeah right! Let’s go back to the common rooms, quidditch Slytherin versus Gryffindor tomorrow. Slytherin! Slytherin! Slytherin!” chanted the Slytherin girl

They all walked back to the common rooms until the Gryffindor girl, Jillian, realized she forgot her sweater.

“Hey Evangeline, I’ll be right back, I forgot my sweater.”

“You’re going to leave me here alone? I’m coming with you!”

“No way, Evangeline. If any of the heads of houses find out, we’re both dead. You aren’t supposed to be here” explained Jillian

“Ugh fine! But hurry up, I don’t want to have to wait for you.”

Jillian ran to get her sweater and heard a loud noise and was never seen again.

Hi Farrah, and welcome to the site!

Your application's coming along nicely, there's just a few things you'll need to edit before we can get you accepted.

Firstly, you say that Farrah is 14, but request 1st/2nd year for her. If you'd like her to be 14, she would actually be going into her 4th year. Alternatively, if you'd like her to be in 1st year, her birth year would be 1939 instead of 1936. You can check our birth year guide for more details. Please decide how old you'd like Farrah to be and update her birthday/year applied for accordingly.

Secondly, You mention that Farrah fell into "a deep depression" and that Farrah's mother had Youth Dementia. Do either of these things play a significant part in Farrah's future storyline, or are they just a part of her past? If they are only a part of her past, that's fine. However, if you do plan on continuing Farrah's depression or her mother's dementia, please could you let us know how far you plan on taking these illnesses. We take mental health and illnesses quite seriously at this site, and they do need to be handled delicately and tactfully.

Thirdly, I'm a little confused about Farrah's life after she runs away. You mention that she finds a job. I assume this is just a summer job until she goes back to Ilvermorny for the next school year, but could you please clarify this? You also state that:

Quote
I then recieved a letter from Hogwarts asking if I’d like to enroll and now here I am, doing it

While future students do receive letters from Hogwarts without having to apply, it seems very unlikely that a student who is already past the age of 11 and is already enrolled in Ilvermorny would receive a letter inviting her to Hogwarts. If you could either remove this detail from your biography, or alter it so that Farrah is the one applying to Hogwarts (rather than being asked to enroll), that would be great.

Fourthly, you say that Farrah speaks Parseltongue. This is considered a special ability, which means that you would need to submit a Special Request for it. You can read more information about special requests here. If you would still like Farrah to be a Parselmouth, you'll need to fill in this form, and send it to an administrator (the staff listing can be found here). Bear in mind that your special request may not be accepted. If your request is not accepted, or if you would rather apply with Farrah as a normal student, you will need to remove all references to being a Parselmouth from your application.

Fifthly, you mention that your character has pastel lavender hair. I'm unsure whether this is dyed or 'natural', but please bear in mind our site rules, which state:
Quote
All applicants should be human in race, and should possess character features (ex: hair color, eye color) typically found in nature.

Also, while it's perfectly fine for Farrah to dye her hair whilst not in school, dying her hair in 'unnatural' colours (e.g. blue, purple) would likely not be permitted by Hogwarts staff. Could you elaborate on what her real hair colour is, and also maybe which colours she prefers to dye her hair whilst in school?

Finally, your RP sample will need a little editing. You should only be playing out Farrah's actions, and not Evangeline's or anybody else's. To play out Evangeline's actions or words is considered powerplaying. This means you cannot invent a conversation between Evangeline and Farrah, you can only have Farrah speak (Evangeline's player would then reply in her next post, and so on). Rather than introducing lots of new characters into your  post, as this can get confusing, focus instead on Farrah. You could provide a reason for why she is in the dungeons, or you could write about how she feels being down there. Please rewrite your sample, bearing these things in mind. If you're still unsure how to respond, feel free to take a look through our sample applications to see how others have replied.

Once you've made the required changes, please repost your entire revised application below, and we'll be more than happy to take another look. If you have any questions about the application (or anything else), please don't hesitate to PM myself or another administrator. Thanks!

I have pastel lavender hair and it’s long and wavy. I have blue eyes and long eyelashes. Farrah is a Slytherin who loves making jokes of first years. She constantly attempts to scare them when the tale of Emma Birch rolls around each year. Although it is Farrah’s first year, her peers have taught her enough for her to know that Emma isn’t a real spirit.

Farrah still feels nervous when she goes down into the dungeons though because she doesn’t know the way and constantly gets nervous she will get lost. It did happen one time and she had to call her Slytherin friends to go and find her. She became distracted and realized Evangeline was wondering around and Farrah was sure she was going the wrong way.

“Stop! That’s not towards Gryffindor Common rooms!!” Farrah shouted

Evangeline continued walking her way as if she didn’t hear Farrah. Farrah gave up and went back to Slytherin common rooms out of boredom.

Hi, Farrah!

Thanks for taking the time to make those changes to your application. There's just a couple more things I'd like to draw your attention to before we can get you accepted.

Firstly, you say that Farrah's depression has continued through to the present day. While this is fine, please make sure you bear in mind that any references to this in your future posts must adhere to the site rating and also that mental health needs to be handled tactfully. If you plan on taking her depression to further extremes and making it a very large part of future threads, etc., you will need admin approval.

Secondly, your RP sample needs just a little more editing. You slip into the present tense (she says, she does) at one point in your post:

Quote
Farrah is a Slytherin who loves making jokes of first years. She constantly attempts to scare them when the tale of Emma Birch rolls around each year. Although it is Farrah’s first year, her peers have taught her enough for her to know that Emma isn’t a real spirit.

Farrah still feels nervous when she goes down into the dungeons though because she doesn’t know the way and constantly gets nervous she will get lost.

Here, we write in the past tense (she said, she did). Please could you edit the passage quoted above so that it is written in the past tense, rather than the present.

You're also still powerplaying Evangeline towards the end of your post, when you state that she was wandering around and that she continued walking away. You're only allowed to play Farrah's actions and not Evangeline's, so if you could remove any references to Evangeline's actions, that would be great. You also have Farrah leave at the end of your post. In a real thread, this wouldn't leave very much room for Evangeline to respond. Instead of having Farrah leave, could you have her stick around instead? Maybe she has something else to say to Evangeline (for example, she could ask Evangeline if she's lost.)

Once you've made the required changes, please repost your entire revised application below, and we'll be more than happy to take another look. Thanks!

Farrah was  a Slytherin who loved making jokes of first years. She constantly attempted to scare them when the tale of Emma Birch rolls around each year. Although it was Farrah’s first year, her peers had taught her enough for her to know that Emma isn’t a real spirit.

Farrah still felt nervous when she went down into the dungeons though because she didn’t know the way and constantly got nervous she would get lost. It did happen one time and she had to call her Slytherin friends to go and find her. She became distracted and realized Evangeline was wondering around and Farrah was sure she was going the wrong way.

“Stop! That’s not towards Gryffindor Common rooms!!” Farrah shouted

She waited for the girl to notice her there and then continued to offer, “Would you like help finding your way back?”
