Biography: (100 words minimum.)
Though he didn’t know it Colin was born in an uproar.

Colin’s mum, Carol, had had little luck in life. At 16 she married the love of her life, and by the time she was 20 she was a widow with three daughters. Desperate for the security that came with a good husband she married quickly, too quickly. Stanley Cook seemed a nice man at first, but he liked things in his house to be done a certain way, and he was difficult and snappy when they weren’t. All the same he provided for Carol’s daughters and gave her five more. It wasn’t too bad a life, although lacking the love and family atmosphere that Carol had seen a glimpse of in her first marriage.

Carol never thought she would be unhappy enough to stray. But she underestimated the power of loneliness and fierce attraction. She began an affair with a Swedish broomstick salesman. They didn’t share a language, but they didn’t need to. Unfortunately, Carol was careless, and was caught by her husband who told her in no uncertain terms she was to end things. She did, however Carol soon found out she was pregnant. Stanley gave her an ultimatum; she could stay but not her child.

Unwilling to give up her baby, and unable to find her lost salesman, Carol left to live with her father in London, and soon gave birth to Colin.

Colin grew up with his mother and grandfather, in his grandfather’s Muggle garage in London. Spending his days with his grandfather, helping in the shop, while Carol went out to make pittance in a Muggle bar. He was full of energy and loved helping his grandfather, fetching and carrying, oiling things and, as he got older, learning how to screw bolts and other helpful odds and ends. His grandfather made him his own bike and Colin spent hours zooming about on it, playing with other kids racing the bobbys (Bad news when they caught him).

When he was with his mother Colin spent a lot of time cheering her up. She seemed sad a lot of the time so he told jokes and funny stories, made games for them to play and generally clowned around (often stepping over the line of acceptability – Colin was never good at knowing when to stop). He kept his mother on her toes, either in stitches or in a towering rage, but either way it was much better to him than her being sad. His attitude earned him the nickname Sunny, his Mum called him her ray of Sunshine.

During the summer he would see his sisters. Being the baby of the group they would tease him and treat him with general exasperation. Sunny acted up the part of the silly kid; making rude jokes and pulling pranks. He liked the attention, it made him feel like part of their sibling group.

Sunny never took anything seriously, always up to some sort of mischief. But at last there came a situation Sunny couldn’t make light of, a few weeks after his eighth birthday, he came home from shopping with his grandfather to find his Mum lying on the floor of their small apartment. At first he thought she was joking, playing him up at one of his own pranks. But she didn’t move and when Sunny called his grandfather up from downstairs he called the St Mungo’s healers at once.

The Healers came and took Carol away, and while Colin Sr. was talking to them Sunny slipped into his Mum’s room. He lay on her bed and smelled her pillows and found, tucked underneath, a letter addressed to him. The letter was from his Mum, a very long and heartfelt goodbye. Sunny hid the letter and kept it for himself, even his grandfather knew nothing about it.

A few days later Sunny’s Mum was released, physically well once more. Sunny thought life would go back to normal then, but no. His grandfather had decided he should go to day care to ‘give his Mum a rest after she’s been sick’. Sunny made a joke about it, laughing that they just wanted him out of the way so they could have one of his sisters round instead; he even went into his Mum’s room and put on a skirt and heels, swaying around the apartment, hamming it up, trying to convince them he was now Sunny the girl. They laughed. But he still had to go to day care.

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trudged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
Sunny looked enviously up at the sky. He wished he had a broomstick; fast and furious he would race through the sky, stealing policemen’s hats and knocking on apartment windows to scare people. No one would be able to stop him.

“Do you want to play?” he turned at the shouted question and saw a little girl, younger than him, with a toy broom of her own.

Sunny thought for a moment. He had promised Mrs Smith next door he’d deliver her husband’s forgotten lunch. But this sounded more fun, and besides, it would teach Mr Smith a lesson for forgetting it in the first place.

“Yeah alright,” Sunny replied, jumping down off his bike, and leaving it in the path, the late lunch sitting forlornly in the basket.

“Can I have a go?” he asked, reaching out for the toy broom. Sunny didn’t have one himself, they were far too expensive, but he was green with jealousy and determined to try – at least for a minute. Then they could play Vampires and Hunters or whatever.
