Tatianna Weathers was born in Melbourne, Australia, to a large poor but happy family. She had thirteen siblings, all muggles, each one more rowdy than the one born before. Her house was small, rickety, and full of both her siblings, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Somehow they all fit. It's stuffy and always loud, but she's learned to live off of little and appreciate what she has around her, especially the nature. There's always someone around to listen to her and hug her when she needs it. Tatianna was sent off to a small boarding school in Sydney when she finds out she's a wizard, and was excited. Even though she was away from her family, they still sent her letters and supported her in all of her endeavors.

Luis Cortéz's life was the opposite. Both of his parents were muggleborns and grew up disadvantaged, and found themselves even more of a disadvantage when they started to go to wizarding school. So they worked hard as they could and became a powerful muggle lawyer and an author. They put pressure on all of their four children to succeed. Luis was taught at home by his nanny, so he never really interacted with anyone outside his family, plus he had always had bad social skills.. No one ever really nurtured him, and he grew up feeling isolated.

They met when Luis was a twenty three year old who had just started working under his father and Tatianna was nineteen and studying magizoology aboard. The two couldn't be any more different, yet somehow they made it work and fell in love. Tatianna decided to stay in Puerto Rico permanently when they discovered that she was pregnant with their first child, a baby boy.

They moved into a large home not that far away from the mansion Luis grew up in. Over the next few years they had Mariana and her little brother.

Mari doesn't remember much about her early years, only that it was mostly happy. Her parents were busy, but her mother always tried to make time for her whenever she could. Luis's mother tutored the children in practical things they would need to succeed in the world other than magic. The house was far too large for five people and her brothers were constantly playing together and excluding her, leaving her feeling isolated, but over the years she got used to it and learned to have fun by herself. Mari's mother, besides being a magizoologist, fostered non-magical animals, so she always had something to cuddle with.

The real problems started to happen when Mari started going to school. She found herself disinterested in most of the things being taught, and would rather stare off into space than do her work. Her grades were terrible, but, somehow, she managed to barely pass. Her mother was concerned and her father, disappointed, but they decided that it was simply phase and let her be. Mari wasn't unhappy, exactly, she was just bored and found her life monotonous and most of the classes pointless. Her brothers were having fun with their friends while Mari would be alone sleeping or caring for plants.

By the end of her fourth/fifth year, her teachers stared to really get on her back about her work and she was much more close to failing than usual. Tatianna called her unmotivated, Luis called her lazy, but either way they both agreed that this had to stop. They decided on shipping her off to Luis's sister's house in England. She was the most successful person they knew, and hoped she would rub off on her.

Mari was upset, to say the least. She liked coming home over the summers, and she barely even knew her aunt. Of course, her parents gave her little choice in the matter, and she was sent off at the beginning of the summer. As soon as she got there, she decided she hated it. Her aunt didn't allow animals (Mari's mother let her take a cat, Tate, and she was livid when she learned Tate would have to stay outside) and always seemed unnecessarily angry at Mariana. Her son was an absolute snob, and her daughter never seemed to be home. She was less upset when she found out she would be away from the house all of the time - she would be sent to summer camp, then school, and when she was home, she could wander around Diagon Alley and other places.

Mari's still bitter, but she decided it won't be as bad as she thought it would be . She just has to mostly keep herself out of trouble and pass her last few years, and she would be free to do whatever as she pleased when she graduated.

House Request:

Wherever you think she would fit in best

Personality:

Mariana isn't unmotivated, exactly, she just finds it useless to put too much effort into things she doesn't find important. Mari thinks a lot of things are unimportant, really. She'll fail some of her classes, but will put incredible detail into a drawing she's doing, or will put a tremendous amount of time into making sure her flowers are growing. Mari naturally doesn't have much energy, and she feels like she's wasting it in school. She floats somewhere between an introvert and an extrovert. She isn't friendly, but she isn't unfriendly, either. She won't go out of her way to start talking to someone, but if someone makes an effort to befriend her she'll try to be civil unless they give her a reason not to. Mari's the type of person to go to a party only because she heard there will be good food there. She can be a good friend, she just isn't the most reliable person. Most of her emotional responses to things are minimal, and she has trouble sympathizing with some problems. Mari puts effort into really good relationships, however, and tries to have their back when she can. Most of the time, she's in her own head, thinking or daydreaming. Mari isn't impulsive, exactly, but she has trouble thinking ahead and seeing the consequences of her actions. Mariana figures she can handle whatever life throws at her when it comes. It's very difficult to make Mari really upset, because she can ignore or doesn't notice some things. She likes to have a voice in decisions she deems important, and hates when people try to make them for her. The only way you can get her really riled up is to talk bad about her family - she can complain about them all the time, but the moment someone else tries to say something about them she's ready to fight.

Appearance:

Mari has medium brown skin, and a birthmark below her right eye. When she gets pimples, they always seem to appear in the same area on her forehead. Her eyes are a very dark brown, and she has thick eyebrows. She's a little tall for her age with longs legs and arms that she never knows what to do with. Mari has shoulder-length black hair, which gets frizzy in the sun.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Please reply to one of the Sample Roleplays below.

Marina was not in the mood to talk. She had just gotten a letter from her parents, which would have been a happier occasion when she was younger, but now it's mostly to yell at her and remind her to do her homework, and her brothers didn't even bother to send her anything. She was sure if it were not for her mother it would be a howler - her father was absolutely merciless.

And it's not like she was upset that he was so mad at her, really, she had gotten used to being their disappointment by then, it was just a part of her life, really. Mari just didn't realize how much she missed home. There were far too many people in this school and too many problems, and the weather was mostly gross and unpredictable. Sure, her parents were always on her back, but it was much more relaxing and warm home. She probably wouldn't go back for years - she was supposed to stay at her aunt's for the holidays, and she wasn't sure if her parents would pay for her to go back home over the summer.

Normally, Mari didn't like to talk at breakfast anyway. She hated getting up in the morning. Sleeping was one of her favorite pastimes, and she was always kind of moody when she got up. Mari wasn't a talking person to people she didn't know very well, but the people in her house had never quite understood that. They were all talking to everyone, including a very grumpy Mari. The sound in there was deafening, plus Mari was extra sensitive to sound when she first woke, so she wanted to bang her head against the wall. All she wanted to do was eat, but the people in there were always doing too much. She shoveled the food in her mouth, eyes scrunched closed, and headed outside. There were hardly any people out there this early, and she was grateful for it.

She took a seat by the flowers, because they always managed to cheer her up. There's something about flowers that Mari loved, they were tranquil and the colors on them were magnificent, sometimes breathtaking. She owned her own garden at home, and she hoped her mother was watering and picking the weeds like she promised. Usually she would just sit there and watch, but she found such a beautiful one that she just had to draw. Keeping her eyes on the flower, she pulled out her sketchbook and began to carefully sketch it. She was at ease again.

There was a hard, loud, sneeze, and her head automatically jerked up in alarm, her pencil making a dark line through her drawing. It was a boy, around her age, and she was about to ignore him and go back to her drawing when he said something to her, and she scrunched up her nose. She could just not respond, but she decided against it. "Don't really care about what's polite or not," she responds, yawning, "No offence, man, but it's kind of hard not to stare when someone blasts snot in all directions."
