Merlin's Order of Defense

CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Collin O’Reilly
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Blood Status (choose one): Pureblood

Education:
1923-30: Hogwarts (Ravenclaw)
1930-32: Healer training, Wizarding hospital in Ireland
1934-35: The Central African Wizarding Community, Tanzania (Studying traditional African medicine)

Residence:
London, UK

Division:
42nd Broom Battalion - Collin is a department head at St Mungo’s and his expertise and knowledge in treating wounds and illnesses can be valuable for the Wizarding Army. His skills are mainly in healing, but he also has some experience in potion brewing and research and graduated Hogwarts with NEWTs in Charms, Transfiguration, Defence Against Dark Arts, Potions and Herbology. The 42nd Broom Battalion will also suit him well since he will still be needing to head his department at St Mungo's and therefore will attempt to spend most of his time either there or at the Barracks and keep out of direct combat as much as possible.

Rank:
Captain - With his job as a department head, being in charge and giving orders is nothing new to Collin. He is used to leading groups of healers and he knows how to teach them the do’s and don’ts of healing. He’s in charge of St Mungo’s emergency ward, possibly the closest you get to the battlefield without actually being there, and despite the rush and at times panic, he enjoys his job. He is also quickly realizing the importance of preparing and teaching the healers and field medics who are heading into war, and he is not afraid to take on the job of teaching them himself.
At the same time, he also has no problems taking orders from his superiors.

Specialty:
Healer Corps - As a healer himself, the healer corps is the most logical place for Collin to be. He is no warrior or fighter, his studies have always come before anything else, but he knows how to heal and has nearly 10 years’ of experience in that field. He is ready to teach any groups of healers or field medics that St Mungo’s takes in for training and to oversee the “safe houses” set up around Britain whenever that is needed. He might be born Irish, but his family is strong supporters of Britain and the Wizarding Alliance, and he sees it as his duty to help where he can.

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Collin was born as the second son to the heir of the O’Reilly family. That he was second, number two, not the one who was expected to take over the family, mattered everything and nothing.

Felix had always been the one Grandfather and Father paid the most attention to. From an early age he had been the one greeting the guests first, the one whose opinion was asked for, and later, the one joining Father in business matters. But that didn’t mean there were any less expectations to Collin.

He was second, but still he was expected to rise and fulfill his role, the role as a son to the heir of the O’Reilly family. He might not have been sorted into Slytherin as his parents or older brother, but he could still be the best Ravenclaw there was. And that was what Collin had strived to be. The best he could.

Family is important to Collin. It is above any other thing. His parents might disagree and say prestige, influence, power, and money came pretty high on that list too, but to Collin it had always been about family. Family and studying. He loves his books nearly as much as he loves his brothers and sister, nearly as much as he loves his parents and grandparents.

The O’Reillys is an Irish family and the main estate, which was where Collin had grown up, is just outside Cork. The family, however, has strong ties to England. Part of the branch family had relocated to England years ago, and Collin’s mother was from England. And so had Evie been.

Evie... Collin never talked much about her anymore, but she was always in his mind. How could she not be? Just a look at Baby and he was reminded of her. Her smile, her eyes, her hair... Baby was like her mother, just like she was like her father, too.

But Evie was gone, and on most days Collin worked and Baby was looked after by her nanny. It was life, but it was also what had made him return to England and closer to his birth home. Baby needed a family, and he would give her one. Even if he had no idea how to look after the infant himself.

Collin had applied to the position at St Mungo's because it was the best hospital in Europe. Yes, in all of the world, some would say.

His family had strong ties to Britain, and through the years they had supported St Mungo's and the Ministry of Magic and now the Wizarding Alliance, too. Collin's father and grandfather might be proudly Irish, but that did not mean they could not influence the wizarding community in Ireland to lean towards supporting Britain. A war was coming and it was important for them to help their British brothers and sisters.

That was the way they had raised Collin to think as well and therefore it was only natural for him to offer the Wizarding Army his support. If he could help train the young lads heading into war to be able to deal with wounds and emergencies on the battlefield, then people would be more likely to survive and England would stand a better chance of winning the war.

Roleplay:

Option 2: ”Brighton! Move over. Bed three. Stop the bleeding. Diagnose. Treat the wounds. Quick!” Collin barked out the orders to the small group, his wand ready in one hand, the chart in the other. This might only be an exercise, but in less than two week these young men and women would find themselves on the battlefield.

Except maybe the American guy, Harris. He was near hopeless and had already managed to spill half a bottle of wound healing potion on the floor. Collin suppressed a sigh. It could have been worse, though.

“Incoming patient!” The doors flung open and two of the junior healers carried in another patient. He could see the group he was training was getting stressed, but they were doing things well so far. He made a tick on the chart and scanned the room. He was proud to say that so far no one had died yet today. That was an achievement in itself.

(Even if it was only a couple of lifelike dolls they were treating.)

Besides showing their support through votes and speeches, substantial donations to especially St Mungo's had been paid over the years. The O'Reillys never hesitated to show where their support lay.

After working in Massachusetts and having excelled as the assistant to the department head, it was only natural for Collin to apply for the department head position himself. He might be young, but he had the experience and skills, and he knew how it worked.

And his family was right behind him, ready to support him in any way he needed it. A department head position at St Mungo's were not only important for Collin, it was for the entire family. It was about prestige.

"Coming through!"

The double doors burst open as the newly-minted Junior Healer shoved through, dodging the milling patients and staff and leaving behind a trail of parchment. The doors stayed open just long enough to allow a glimpse of the scene beyond - a riot of noise, colours and gesticulating arms - before closing again.

It was Archibald Forrester's first day on the job, and while his professors had warned him it could get hectic at St. Mungo's, he'd never imagined it'd be quite like this. Arms transfigured and somehow regrafted onto someone's head, an Auror coughing up rainbows after a dust-up with a gang of young hooligans in Knockturn, and oh - that patient up on the fourth floor that was running around telling people he was Merlin reborn. And that was just the cases that had come in in the last hour.

It had to be time for his shift to be over, right?

He gave up the lost bits of parchment as a lost cause and cast a frantic Tempus. One minute. Heaving a sigh of relief,  his eyes instantly began darting around to find a convenient on-duty person to hand his load over to. Shoes - bought at the nice medical suppliers and outfitters just down the street - squeaked on the floor as he weaved and skidded around corners, before finally stopping in front of the first figure he found.

"Here. Here are all the charts - the arms for the Transfig patient seem to be morphing into tentacles, and Healer Wilberforce says we need to operate now but needs a second opinion - the Auror's squad captain is outside demanding to know what's been keeping the treatment and uh - "

A few floors up, muffled thumping and howling could barely be heard, but Archie winced anyway.

"Right. Mr. Merlin's somehow gotten hold of a wand and now the entire psych wing believes in him too - for the love of all that's magical, take this, please!"

Roleplay Response:

The new junior healer barely had Collin raise his head. He’d seen it before, he’d even been there not too long ago himself, but that was just how it went. It would be okay. They would settle down and get used to the pace, get used to the work.

“Here. Here are all the charts...”

He looked up, the chart in his own hand tilting, and his eyes moved from the junior healer to the parchments. He was doing... okay. It was his first day, one had to expect a slight panic. It was only normal.

“Forrester,” Collin’s eyes moved back to the junior healer and he gave a slight nod, but muffled thumping and howling had him stop, an eyebrow raising. What on earth was that?

"Right. Mr. Merlin's somehow gotten hold of a wand and now the entire psych wing believes in him too - for the love of all that's magical, take this, please!"

“Right.” A pause and blue eyes looked around. “Jones will take over after you. Please deliver the charts to him, he should be here any minute.”

As for the arms that were turning into tentacles...

“If there isn’t anything else you need, I will be assisting Wilberforce.”
