Biography:

1 9 3 9. Britain had declared war on Germany. At eight years old, she had no understanding of the concept or what its repercussions would be. She was more so concerned about her father's sickness - tuberculsomething, they called it - and whether or not he was going to be coming home from that filthy hospital. William said that if he didn't get better soon, he'd lose his job at the ministry. Adrien told her to prepare for the worst.

Her mother always insisted that being a pureblooded wizard meant that you were superior in every way possible to the muggles. But if that was so, why did her family live among them? And how could that be true when even the doctors at St. Mungo's hadn't been able to fix her papa?

1 9 4 1. Papa died when Adelaide was hardly a decade old, and he took a piece of her heart with him. She would never know if those muggle doctors could have saved him because his hospital was annihilated during the Blitz attacks in London.

Not long afterwards, the rationing began. Her enduring mother relocated them to Charing Cross to live with her economically comfortable parents, and Adelaide often listened to her beguiling grand-père go on about the War to End All Wars being a misleading title.

She should have been looking forward to starting school at Hogwarts. Instead, she was pulled from the registrar and received home tutoring. She prepared for the worst.

1 9 4 4. Adelaide and her siblings were evacuated to the West Country. The world had become too grey for such young eyes.

1 9 4 5. Adelaide's mother plucked them from the country after a tearful reunion and brought them home on account that things were settling down- on the surface, at least.

On the second of September in that year, the war was over. William and Adrien returned to Hogwarts, and Adelaide was free to begin her schooling there with the promise of a fresh start.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Slytherin or Ravenclaw

Personality: An introvert and something of a loner, Adelaide prefers the company of books over the presence of another. During the war years, particularly while she was living in the West Country, soothing words and Charms textbooks were her only solace while her brothers were kept busy with work.

She makes a habit of asking questions because she stands firmly in the belief that inquiry equates intelligence. Adelaide is ambitious only when she wants to be and will not put forth effort if she feels the reward isn't worth it. She showcases a rocky outer shell mostly to deflect others- she has seen far too much suffering in her short life and can count the people she trusts on one hand. Inside, however, she is a sympathetic and spiritual individual and is very concerning of others, but tries not to be so as to spare herself any potential pain.

While she is confident in who she is, she is not overly arrogant and is unlike her family in that she does not believe herself superior to anyone regardless of bloodline.

Option 2

Sixteen year old Adelaide Devillier folded her arms over her chest, sharply verdant eyes drinking in the boy's demeanor. She'd seen the rat scurrying past and, having seen the desperate boy just moments after, made the connection that it was the rat he was chasing.

Furrowing her brows, she crossly said, "And it's quite gross to wipe your snot on your clothing, especially in public. Haven't you any manners?" She wasn't necessarily surprised. In her experience, boys had a tendency of being...repugnant. Her elder brothers certainly had been when they were younger.

She eyed him just a bit longer before deciding to speak. If he wasn't going to, she might as well mention his desecrating the flowers. "Could you maybe tell me why you were destroying those beautiful poppies? I know you're probably searching for that rodent but I'm rather fond of this garden and I don't appreciate anyone bringing harm to it."

Adelaide wondered why anyone would opt for a pet rat, anyways. Especially when there were Persian cats, elegant snow owls, or even toads. Couldn't you get a disease from a rat as well?

She added, "I'll help you find your little friend, but you'd better help me fix these flowers up, deal?"
