Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.
Name: Ceres Ulyssa Paladin

Birthday: September 1st

Hometown: Palatine Hall, England

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one): Transfiguration

Year (pick two): 5th (first choice), 4th

Biography:
Sweet, gentle Ceres, twin sister of Perseus, grew up to a life made pleasantly uneventful by its luxury. Born to a purist family, the young Paladin girl absorbed the social values of relatives around her but melded them with her distaste for conflict, and her lifestyle of being precious rather than political, to become a model of happiness within cognitive dissonance; all-loving but silently judgemental at the same time. Neither courageous nor ambitious, Ceres is only boldly forthright when talking to her siblings and has no major desire in life other than to always feel happy and to believe that others are happy too. She’s a sunny-faced optimist, content to have her elders control the machinery of life. For her own sake, Ceres’ interests grew in her years to include spending time with siblings, receiving and giving compliments, reading literature recommended by sister Pacifica, and telling younger Tiberius what an abhorrent prat he can be, with all her love.

As time passed and her siblings left for formal schools, however, the uneventfulness of luxury began to lean more towards sheer boredom than fun in the now young woman’s mind. From early childhood, Ceres has been homeschooled for her education thus far – in her belief, for being considered too delicate to follow Perseus to Durmstrang. No longer content to spend so much time without her brothers and sister during school terms, she concentrated her efforts on undramatically but persistently nudging her parents in an effort to convince them to send her to Hogwarts, since Durmstrang had seemed to be avoided. After a term of sugary, insistent pressing, now too late to spend school days with Pacifica or Paris, though enough time still to be with Tiberius, Ceres’ parents have relented to applying for a spot at Hogwarts castle.

House Request: Hufflepuff

Personality: Ceres is an upbeat soul, a big believer in positive thinking bringing a positive life, and a believer in the importance of kindness above all. She’s a gentle and loyal girl who will happily make friends with people from all walks of life. However, while she is horrified by overt rudeness or meanness, she is also what might be called an innocent bigot. Ceres has been raised to believe in qualities of social worth, like blood purity, and will occasionally (naively) express these as simple fact, without any intent to humiliate or criticise another person, just as easily as she might state that blue is not the same as red. When this happens, she tends to feel hurt if others consider her to be an insulting or hateful person, due to how thoroughly she thinks of herself as very loving and accepting.

Appearance: Long dark brown tendrils of hair frame Ceres’ pale face, which houses a heart-shaped jawline, smooth high cheek bones, and prominent, emotive eyes. Her body is both slender and petite, like a flexible sapling.

Option I:

Blimey, the Great Hall was packed. It seemed like everywhere a guy looked there was some clown waving around a House banner or yelling about the game.

'Can you believe it?' 'No way!' 'This must be the biggest upset in Hogwarts Quidditch history...'

Stupid Quidditch.

James flopped into an empty seat at the end of the table, shoved an empty plate out of the way, and let his head sink onto his crossed arms, squishing his freckled nose down flat against the tabletop. He wasn't sure why he'd even bothered to come here, since he definitely wasn't hungry. He'd probably never eat again, in fact. He didn'tdeserve to eat. He hadn't stopped in the locker room to change out of his muddy, sweaty uniform after the game either, because he was pretty sure he probably didn't deserve to be clean too; and anyway he couldn't stand to see the looks on his team mates' faces after he blew their chance at winning one of the biggest games they had ever played.

Just one lousy shot. That's all it would have taken. If he could have just got that one stupid foul shot to go through that one stupid hoop, they could have won and he wouldn't have been the biggest blockhead in the entire school.

As if to prove the point, half the people at the next table suddenly broke into a loud victory chant. James pressed his face further into his arms to hide the bright red blotches he could feel creeping up his cheeks. That was it. He was just going to have to run away and move to Nova Scotia. He'd just cost the three-year-in-a-row Champions the Quidditch Cup! How do you ever live that one down for crying out loud? He was only a second year and he was going to spend the rest of his life as 'that dumb cry-baby kid who dropped the Quaffle!'

It felt like every set of eyes in the room was boring into him, and James couldn't stand it anymore. He jerked himself back up from the table and stomped right back out of the Hall the same way he had come in. As he stormed into the quieter hallway outside, he could hear footsteps somewhere behind him. James rounded on the sound and began to shout, his brown eyes shining with tears. "WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"

RP Response

A silver fork in a small hand picked at fruits and strips of meat while, up above each arm, the girl’s thin shoulders jiggled a contented rhythm, as if the effect from her mouth eating her selected treasures was akin to the experience of hearing music for the first time. Ceres Paladin chewed her food slowly, with her eyes fixated on the colourful ceiling stretching overhead; a baby blue tarp punctuated by cotton-like clouds. She chewed slowly on a sliver of chicken and examined a cloud shaped like a heart that was slowly drifting above the Ravenclaw table.

When she had finished eating, Ceres withdrew her legs from the long dining bench before she made her way to the Main Hall. Her legs skidded to the side to avoid the large, sweaty body of a staff member passing through the crowd in the opposite direction. She peered at the person’s dirty clothes. “Groundskeeper” was the word someone had called the person. Ceres supposed that meant they were the castle’s resident peasant for outdoor services.

Hogwarts seemed more homelike that she’d initially imagined.

Crowds gave way, deeper into the school’s hallways. Ceres made a game of getting a foot to the middle of a stone block with each step, avoiding the lines, absent-mindedly hopping like a foraging bird with her movements. Then a dragon-roar of drama exploded in her face.

"WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"

The slender Paladin girl reflexively took two steps back as the boy’s voice belted out from his mouth like a hurricane. Her brain quickly worked to retrace its position in the last few moments but shock had stopped all thought. Her lower lip trembled, a light rapid quiver that became a long steady wobble. Ceres’ face became a mask of terror from lack of understanding. “I didn’t know I was supposed to already know you’re a loser,” she said sadly. “Why would you yell at me for that?”
