Biography:

la famille.

Adeline was born the younger sister to Clement de Vauquelin, and regrettably female, which would continue to haunt her well into her teens. She was doted on by her mother, but only knew her in the two years after her birth, after which her mother died giving birth to Henri, the third and final child.

It marked a noticeable shift in the family, with Adeline's father prioritising the rearing of his sons far more than his daughter. Adeline clamoured for her father's attention but only ever received it in part, and thus sought friendship amongst the French aristocracy and her brothers to leaven her need for companionship.

Adeline was closest to Clement during her childhood, with her older brother filling an instrumental gap in her development. She studied and practised her magic with him, and would spend hours at a time in conversation and debate. Clement, unlike their father, did not believe in her female inferiority, and encouraged her to constantly change the aristocracy's opinions about what women could and couldn't do.

Sent off to military school for polarising mood-swings and intense bouts of anger, Henri de Vauquelin was always the strangest brother. Adeline always suspected there was something wrong with his intense eyes and unnatural stillness. She barely ever saw her brother when he was home, and thus only ever cared for him by association.

When Clement died following a freak accident, Adeline was heartbroken. She became increasingly alienated from the family throughout her final years at Beauxbatons, with her father raising Henri to become his heir despite the boy's woeful unpreparedness. Adeline stayed little in France following the conclusion of her studies, and to this day, she communicates very little with her father.

la personnalité.

Born firmly within the French Pureblood aristocracy, Adeline has always grown up with the ability to hide her emotions and never truly reveal what she feels. She was taught at a young age that feelings tend to be weaknesses, and so spent the majority of her childhood learning to hide them. She is poised, polite and perfunctory, and believes the aristocracy to be a society that other wizards should aspire to partake in.

In being highly elitist, she's a staunch defender of the class system within the Wizarding society, and would gladly see Muggleborns removed from positions of power- believing that those are reserved for those with a Magical pedigree. While not completely dismissive of the Halfblood society, she does see them as inherently inferior because of their muddied bloodlines.

Her specific upbringing and family dynamic has instilled in her a belief that the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. She is much more likely to gravitate towards bonds she's created, as opposed to the family she has left behind. She is generally receptive to all forms of contact, although her belief in class dictates the kinds of conversations she perpetuates and connections she maintains.

Adeline fights heavily against the gender-imbalance in the Wizarding and Muggle societies. She aims to ameliorate the respect deficit amongst men, especially towards women, so that she may live in a society where it's just as socially acceptable for women to be matriarchs of the family and household, rather than servants.

Fiercely intelligent, Adeline is respectively attracted to all forms of intellect, and loves the heat of debate and conversation. She is fiercely proud of her research and can happily talk about everything she's discovered, not to mention the places she's been able to travel and the languages she can speak.

Roleplay:

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Roleplay Response:
Ink. What a completely banal and trivial thing to require.

Diagon Alley was a far cry from the gilded halls in her father's Versailles manor-house; London's depressing weather a mere figment if she were only in France, where Apollo's sun shone freely and she wasn't in need of something as mortal and material as ink.

The cobblestones clinked merrily beneath her heels but her hands tightened her coat around her. It was infernally cold thanks to the recent (and reoccuring) rain, another infuriatingly-boring English oddity she'd never gotten used to. Perhaps that was why all the English she'd met were so dreadfully bad-tempered. She'd tasted the Gods' gifts in golden Morocco and sun-drenched Spain; how could this ever compare?

She was pulled out of her thoughts by a woman's voice, calling through the crowd. Adeline was wont to simply get her stupid ink and escape back to the recluse and relative luxury of her apartment, but she noted with pointed interest that no one else seemed to notice. Certainly not the men. Adeline bit back a huff of exasperation. For all their talk of 'chivalry' and 'good intentions', English men were not different from the French in the slightest.

Inferior, the lot of them.

She drew closer until the crowd parted around a red-haired woman, clutching notebook and quill and broken heel in her hands. Adeline drew her wand and muttered a duo of spells; one to recover the lost shoe and another to repair it. She handed the heel back to the woman without a word, then decided the better and offered her hand to help the woman up.

"You must be more careful," she said, not unkindly, "You'll get yourself hurt."

Hi, Adeline!

Your application looks great, there's just one tiny thing I'll need you to edit before we can get you accepted.

You mention in the 'La Chronologie' section of Adeline's biography that she was valedictorian. In 1939, Beauxbatons was actually a played board on our site, which means that there were played characters taking classes there. In order to keep things in line with our site history, please could you remove that detail from her biography?

Once you've made the required change, please repost your entire revised application below, and we'll be more than happy to take another look. Thanks!
