Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Elizabeth Arnett

Birthday: Feb 14

Hometown: London

Bloodline: Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Div

Magical Weakness (pick one): Charms

Year (pick two): 4th (original yr - preferred),  3rd (still left back one)

Biography:

Pre-Hogwarts Years

“Can you believe we did it?  We got the highest scores on the eleven plus exam in our school.  Can you imagine what a difference going to one of those fancy grammar schools can do?  No factories for us.” - Zach Dumont (NPC Muggle)

“I know.  We could be anything.  Did you hear some kids who graduated from that grammar school went on to one of those oddly named Oxford colleges?  Just getting into one of them is a golden ticket to doing anything, and we could do it.” - EA

“You’d make a good lawyer as you win half the time when arguing in class and maker our teacher look things up.  Are you going to go for that?  I’m going for Doctor. “ - Zach Dumont (NPC Muggle)

“Doctor Dumont.  Just because I’m always right and smart enough to argue with dumb Mr. Henderson doesn’t mean I like doing it.  I’d prefer if he actually read the textbooks he was teaching from more often.  I think I'd like to do something like learning to decode cyphers as imagine solving puzzles for a career, plus I could go into the Womens Auxiliary Air Force after graduating from one of those fancy Oxford colleges. ”  - EA
____

“Arnett.  Get that those two practice snitches.” shouted loudly followed by in a quiet voice as Sarah MacDonald flew by “No idea how they were the best in Hogwarts but between you and me they aren’t making the team. “ - Sarah MacDonald (NPC Quidditch coach)

“ Got it.  To stiff on the brooms, and even though they look like there leaning correctly they are pushing to much weight forward. “ - EA

“Going to be just like your mother after you graduate aren’t you.  What house you think you’ll get? “ - Sarah M.

“No.  I plan to have nothing to do with quidditch after I graduate.  I just hope it isn't Ravenclaw as the last thing I'd want is to be stuck with bookworms for seven years.“

Hogwarts Years

“How do you really feel about having been sorted into Ravenclaw?” - James Leighton

“I think the sorting hat put me there purely because of my coffee addiction.  Probably was afraid if I didn’t have my morning coffee I’d do something like transfigure the staircase into a slide when I turned into a seventh year just to get my coffee faster.  Naturally if I ever figure out how I’ll do that at least once.  Don’t worry you’ll be there so you can go down the slide first with me.  Though to be honest, I was hoping for Slytherin like my dad though as if I could come on top of that it would certainly deliver a message for the rest of my life.  However, they don't have coffee in the common room so l think the sorting turned out for the best.“ - EA
____

“E.  Where were you this year?  If you hadn’t written that letter back at the start of school I’d of thought you were caught in a bomb.” - Zach Dumont (NPC Muggle)

“My parents were worried about the war, and sent me to some school in the country.  Only cool thing about it was the castle it was in.  I once borrowed one of the smaller sets of armor and stood as a statue then moved about to scare people.” - EA

____
“Why didn't you want to come to Hogwarts?” - Ruby Lazuli

“It isn’t that I don’t want to be here.  I mean the castle is neat, but I have better opportunities outside these walls.  Seriously, everything they teach here could easily be learned by reading a book.  It’s how we learn it anyways so I could learn more real world stuff by being in the real world. “ - EA
____

“Forbidden Forest Freakout, Shrieking Shack Sleepover or Starlight Skivvies Swim in the lake?” - Irma Scrivner

“How does the second Thursday of term sound?  We can sneak into the forest before curfew, and explore as late as we want. Then head over the the shrieking shack to tell ghost stories all night, followed by a morning polar bear swim in the lake.  I’ll grab some others and we can make it a party.” - EA

“Wot do you fink you could get away wif?” - Irma Scrivner

“Anything it is all about proper planning.” - EA
____

“Doesn't coffee stunt your growth?” - Adrian Alric

“That is not only the silliest thing I’ve heard today, but also it is the silliest thing I’ve ever heard from you.  Not only doesn’t it stunt your growth it makes one able to focus and think better.  I’ve done studies.  Only reason you’re taller is you’re a boy not your comparative lack of coffee consumption.“
____
“How do you fit into those tiny little crevices?” - Maggie Harkiss

“I only drink coffee and eat scones which keeps me small.“ - EA

“Is there anything you wouldn't do on a dare?” - Maggie Harkiss

“Haven’t found one that I haven’t done yet that wasn’t sure to kill me.  So not yet.“ - EA
____

“What sort of broom do you prefer flying? “ - Xerxes Gerder

“Nimbus.  My mother gets the new model to test it, and they are the best.  I tried the model for next year and it turns better than the latest cleansweep model.  I think it will be the choice of professional seekers soon. “ - EA
____

“So, how pure are you?  Wot generation?” - Irma Scrivner

“No idea.  I’m not an inbreed though as my grandfather was probably a muggle as when I ask my mother about him she can’t remember much.  Though, only thing purity is good for is the connections they keep giving each other as they are all cousins somehow.”
____

“What do you think we'll be like when we're old...as old as our parents?” - James Leighton

“You’ll be so successful you won’t even need a mirror in your office.  As for me I don’t know.  Even though all the professors teach is useless things I could read in a book failing a year probably looks bad.  Though maybe I’ll manage to convince them to let me skip a year eventually so no one will notice.  After all, I was near top of my classes this year and we both know I spent about half the year exploring the castle.  I know I can fly, but I don’t want to be a quidditch player like my mother or worse sell cauldrons like my dad.  Hopefully I manage to become an arithmancer. As I'd go batty with a boring job.  You won't let me go batty right?  Ohh, and kids I want at least two. “ - EA

Note: All questions not submitted by an NPC were submitted by the roleplayers that play the characters mentioned.  For a more traditional biography see Elizabeth Arnett’s Firstie App.  Only updates from that was she spent her first year in the castle trying to escape as she secretly wanted to go back to the really fancy grammar school she managed to test into by getting the highest grades in her school on the eleven-plus exam. Unfortunately her magical inability combined with the fact she spent so much time trying to escape Hogwarts resulted in her getting left back.  She spent her second year in the castle sulking about being left-back, and grumbling how books could teach her more than her professors.  Then finally her third year she realized the only viable escape plan would be graduation so she attempted to hand in both second and third year work hoping they'd skip her.  Plus, she realized that after Hogwarts having failed would look bad and if she was going to be stuck with a wizarding world education she wanted to look good.

Her footsteps softly echo’ed in the dungeons as she walked around confidently.  After all, there was nothing in the dungeons that compared to her old walk to school.  There wasn’t the fear of an air raid siren going off and having to slip into the nearest bunker.  There wasn’t any of the rougher kids who sometimes tried to take ones lunch money - which they hadn’t gotten in the last year and a half she was home and never since she’d started Hogwarts.  There wasn’t even the fact that she always had to look over her shoulder to ensure she didn’t get followed as it used to be illegal to be in the muggle world.  All the dungeons had was a slight dampness to the walls, so she made sure she had cuffed her pants.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?”

She’d naturally heard what happened years ago.  She made it her business to know as much as possible about Hogwarts and events prior to her starting.  After all, knowing such things could confuse people into thinking she was older which was always advantageous, especially now that she was closer to being a fifth year and they sometimes had parties.  With a smirk she decided that she needed a break from thinking about how to get out of Hogwarts faster.  Who knew if her attempts to hand in both second and third year work last term would equal being a fourth year next.  So she said “ I was waiting for you.  You remember the rules you are only allowed to send sparks and whatever part of your body gets hit you can’t use. “

Then she chuckled thinking her game was rather great.  Wouldn’t ghosts play games?  They must get bored.  They certainly loved to groan in her ear distracting her during classes and making her unable to sleep at night.  So for once instead of being annoyed by them she’d actually have a bit of actual ghost free fun at there expense.

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.
Name: Elizabeth Arnett

Birthday: Feb. 14.

Hometown: London

Bloodline: Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one): Charms

Year (pick two):

Biography:
Most the people she had met up until this point of her life fell into two groups one who knew her parents, or ones from the muggle elementary school she went to.  Naturally there were some exceptions, but they were few and it was never acknowledged.  So in an odd sense she had two identities the combined to form the person she was.  Identities that came complete with there own sets of paperwork, the muggle ones forged, and there own set of friends.  This opposing mix of influences has dramatically shaped the person she is, and caused her to in some respects compartmentalize things within her life.

Elizabeth Arnett - Wizard in Training

Her mother was either a professional quidditch player or coach depending on the day of the week and which people she was playing with.  Either way she had watched people play quidditch all her life from whatever stand, bench, or field he mother left her in until she was old enough to fly.  When she became old enough to fly she got delegated to the role of quaffle retriever, and bludger fetcher by her mother to help out when she was coaching.  Elizabeth was never sure what her father did, beyond it being boring.  At one point she was dragged to a cauldron shop that he apparently worked at, but was out the door exploring before he could tell her what he did.  Nothing fun could come out of a shop piled high with cauldrons and odd potion ingredients with less burners than they had on the stove at home.

Naturally the people who knew her parents expected her to be like them.  Her mother existed in a perpetual state of childhood and expected everything responsible to just work out.  A state that she suspected her father made actually work out.  Naturally she didn’t know it was actually her uncle Helios, who wasn’t actually her uncle, that made the important things work out for her mother like her first professional quidditch contract.  As such when she was younger she fell into those traits of being laid back, calm, and was confident everything would work out.  Except for her it often didn’t as unless she spoke up her mother would just drag her about so as she was getting older she became more outspoken than either of her parents.  A state that shocked most when they encountered her loud mouth.

Elizabeth Arnett - Muggle Imposter

At the muggle elementary school it was understood she couldn’t talk about her parents beyond them existing.  Her mother thought it was important that she be exposed to muggles as there were far to many wizards who couldn’t manage outside of there small world.  So she was her own unique person there and developed into a confident, and somewhat boisterous young lady.  There she learned that being laid back got one stepped upon, so instead she spoke up for herself and her friends.

As for how she got tossed into it, her mother practically considered it free babysitting and they didn’t look to much at the paperwork her mother handed them.  The advantage of her mother choosing a school in a lower working class neighborhood that was close to the dividing line separating the wizarding world near where she actually lived.  The fact that it was illegal on both the count of the forgery of muggle papers, and the interaction with the muggle world when the Ministry had such restrictions didn’t bother her mother so much.  After all, the wizarding world was acting so isolationist at the time she wondered if her parents were planning to give her an out of it if the prejudices got to bad.  Plus, it wasn’t like the Ministry was providing an education for children under eleven so the muggle schools were her best free option.

Though now the world had changed, minus the statue of secrecy which still kept her lips sealed, to be one where it wasn’t as risky to wander into the muggle world.  At least they were now allowed to interact with muggles.  Which was the hardest thing about her dual identity and how she almost felt like she was a muggle.

The Merging of Elizabeth Arnett

The year she turned eleven turned out to be the most monumental of her life so far.  At the beginning of the school year she sat the entrance exam for muggle grammar school something called the eleven-plus exam.  It was uneventful as unlike her muggle friends she knew she’d be going to Hogwarts and they’d never see the exam.  After all, Hogwarts would likely never be told she had a muggle education period as what her mother did forging paperwork was probably illegal and certainly not something one advertised.  So the scores wouldn’t be worth the paper they were written on - especially since failure was almost certain considering the lower class primary school she was in.

It wasn’t a forgery, a joke, a mistake, she Elizabeth Arnett had managed to score high enough on the entrance test to go to a grammar school along with only two other students from her school.  It was more than a shock to not only her but her friends, as her grades while good weren’t the top of the class as she was more known for focusing on having fun and socializing.

Then there was her Hogwarts letter that predictably came on her eleventh birthday.  She never bothered to mention her ticket to grammar school figuring it was a back-up just incase she were a squib.  After all, with months of trying she couldn’t get more than sparks out of that wand she acquired she was rather certain she might be one.  Though now with both in her hands she hesitated realizing the path of Hogwarts might not be the one that lead her to greatness.

Choosing one’s Identity

The first was the one in the wizarding world.  It was what she was raised with.  The base expectations for her life were that she’d go to Hogwarts then graduate and become a member of wizarding society.  Her whole view of the world was based on this very concept as her excitement of receiving her Hogwarts letter revealed.  Yet, the simple fact was all she could do was sparks out of the wand she acquired which didn’t give her the confidence she’d be a great wizard.  Plus she wasn’t immune to the words that had been tossed her way with respect to her blood status.  She knew that would always hold her back, as those badges proved, and there was nothing she could do about it.  Even if she could be great in the wizarding world, she’d have to fight harder and still be pushed down by a now invisible badge.

The second was the one in the muggle world.  The only part of her life there that was a forgery was her address, and parents occupations.  Her accomplishments like passing the eleven-plus, getting into grammar school, and the friends she had were hers.  Unlike the wizarding world she had an independent identity and wasn’t looked at as an extension of her parents, or worse her blood status.  Yes, the muggle school she went to was in a lower working class neighborhood, however her grammar school would be likely in a different part of London.  A better part of London and she was confident she could grab a couple of nice hand-me-downs to make people think she belonged.  Or convince her mother to buy her some new clothes, she wouldn’t have to buy Hogwarts supplies after all.  All it would require of her were appearances, and working hard.  If she could score so high on her exam she was certain that if she worked hard she could really make something of herself.

Following one’s Ambition

It was the obvious one considering the fact her mother, who had been head girl and had good NEWT scores, only amounted to being a quidditch player which only required skill.  A skill she didn’t have, nor was interested in pursuing.  Even if she was one of the better bludger fetchers, even better than some of the paid summer interns the teams occasionally got.  As for her father she was so bored by whatever he did combined with the fact it didn’t seem as respected as other things that it didn’t really manner.  Most the things in the wizarding world that were important almost required being pureblood and that wasn’t something she could change.  Nor would she want to as unlike most wizards she could make it without magic, which made her feel like she was superior.  Even if she could never say anything.

She didn’t have a good starting point in either world, yet she had managed to push ahead based on her own skill in the muggle world.  Either way she’d be separated from friends which she had gotten used to with the many friends she had over the years who were evacuated to the country side due to the war.  However the few wizarding friends she had weren’t enough to make her want to go to Hogwarts.  Most of them were practically family and she knew that even if she were a squib there friendship would last.

She was ambitious and knew if she were to become great her odds were better in the muggle world.  So she choose to go against the grain and attend a muggle grammar school instead of Hogwarts.  She wasn’t going to count on things working out for her she was going to make them work out for her.  This would be her first step.

The problem was her parents had choose Hogwarts.

Naturally the only problem was she couldn’t even get sparks from her wand.  However, she knew a real squib wouldn’t be trying to point that out so she had to fail in the least hurtful way possible.  Hopefully her planned failures would lead David to telling her parents she was a squib.

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
"You!”

She had seen this scene so many times with so many different people in her life.  The younger or less popular kid being left out as the other ones played.  When it was her she pushed herself into the action, or left.  She wasn’t the type to observe unless she had to like when her parents took her to things.  Which wasn’t today.

Today was hers to explore Hogsmeade while her mother was doing something with her friends as this was a place that was apparently safe enough for her to just wander.  She wasn’t going to explore looking up at quidditch players she did that enough.

"...Do you want to play?”

She said “ No. “  Though she didn’t look at the girl she looked at the boy in the air as that was the real game.  After all, she didn’t have a broom so she’d be settling for the lesser game and the boy would just see her as her little sisters playmate.  Even worse she’d be looking up at people playing quidditch which she was stuck doing to many days for her taste.

Elizabeth said “ Next time push one of them off there broom. “  She was the type to stick up for her friends, but she didn’t know the girl so felt not reason to.  With a shrug she pointed at one and said “ His form is a bit wobbly to the left so you pushed from that side once he was hovering it would probably work. “

That was as close as she was going to get to helping the girl.
