Biography: (100 words minimum.)
Danielle Brooks was born to Simon and Dolores Brooks, sister to Claudia Brooks and bereft of any magical abilities that the rest of her family seemed to share. She was born a squib, and spent much of her childhood feeling alienated by the fact that she was unable to perform magic when the rest of her family could. She lived at home until the age of 18; after which she got her own apartment

In the spring of 1932, Danielle Brooks became pregnant with Theo after a drunken night with her partner at the time. Unfortunately, [NAME REDACTED] left soon after Danielle alerted him of her pregnancy, leaving her to birth and raise the baby on her own. She refused to contact her family about her newborn son and avoided phone calls from her workplace to come back to work.

Theodore Aloysius Brooks was born on Valentines’ Day and Danielle spent a week in Wellingborough Cottage Hospital before she was fully discharged, with debt in one hand and a newborn son in the other.

Despite having to spend time with her newborn son, Danielle also dedicated a lot of time to her work and bringing in as much money as possible- a lifestyle that was difficult to sustain. Danielle’s first priority was to pay off all the debt she had accumulated over her pregnancy, and she managed this impressive feat shortly after working intensively in her new position for a three-quarter year.

Now that she had paid off all her debt, Danielle took up a part-time position to spend time with her son, and brought in a steady amount of savings until Theo was four years old. By this time, Danielle had received a lucrative job offer across the pond, and she’d conjured up grand plans to travelling to America with Theo and beginning a new life. This dream was realised shortly after Theo turned five years old and she accepted the offer.

The time warp occurred shortly before Danielle and Theo moved out of Wellingborough, which tore Danielle’s muggle friends away from her and plunged her into a depression. She was resolute in moving to Queens, job offer or not, and managed the move with all her pooled funds.

They moved to Queens, New York, with very little familial support to back them. Regardless, Danielle fell in love with the blooming city and Theo grew up amongst an entire different calibre of children- all which opened his tiny little mind. His mother was an intellectual at the core, and always pushed Theo’s mind to its absolute limits. She encouraged creativity and curiosity heavily, and was immensely proud whenever Theo took home a gold star from school for his impressive intelligence.

By age 10, Theo had taught himself a variety of difficult mathematical and linguistic skills- and was offered a place at a high-end school for gifted children. Danielle was quick to accept the offer for him; it was clear to her that Theo was no longer being challenged by the concepts taught at grade school.

Theo’s magic manifested during his first term at the school for gifted youngsters, and Danielle, caught completely unawares; contacted her magical family to ask for help. She quickly learnt that Theo’s cousin, a girl called Helen, was attending a boarding school in England that was especially geared for children with Theo’s abilities. Despite her reluctance to let her son go to a school that was specifically for those with magical abilities- Danielle ultimately decided it was best for him.

Danielle swiftly packed up their things and resigned from her job, and moved back to England during the middle of the second world war- a process that was far more difficult than Danielle had intended it to be. Upon moving into her old apartment in Wellingborough, Danielle received a letter from Hogwarts School to notify her of Theo’s prompt acceptance, and everything was finalised.

Roleplay:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Theo was rather enjoying his day in Godric park, reading Orwell's latest work in the sunshine and blinking through the lingering traces of fatigue. His mother was at work and his friends were out shopping, and he was left in blissful peace to ponder over some quality literature.

Or so he thought.

A little girl, squealing holes through Theo's fragile peace, was chasing her brother over the lawn on a rather pitiful toy broom. It would have been amusing to watch were it not for the ungodly noises coming from the girl's mouth. It struck Theo that he could move, but he would rather prefer sticking a rusty needle into his eyeball. A glance at the park-goers around him revealed nothing of suspicion, but he believed that some others must be starting to get annoyed with the little girl's behaviour.

Finally, the older brother zoomed off on his broom and the little girl was left on the ground. She threw a rather spectacular tantrum, with Theo wondering whether he could roll his eyes into the nth dimension without breaking his skull- before the little creature turned on her heel and pointed a single chubby finger in Theo's direction.

"You! ...Do you want to play?"

Theo slowly put down his book and arched a single, perfectly sculpted eyebrow. Then he lifted his chin and looked the little girl up and down.  He heaved a weary sigh and dragged his hand over his forehead. "Have your parents never told you that you shouldn't talk to strangers, girl?" He asked, tilting his head slightly to the side.

He put his book aside and leant forward to brace his elbows on his knees. He shot a quick look around, wondering whether any of his elitist friends were around to watch him interacting with the little girl. She was 'lesser'- less intelligent, less seasoned; less knowledgeable. In the eyes of Theo's friends- it was perfectly acceptable for him to up and leave without another word.

But Theo was not his friends. His mother had instilled in him time and time again that propriety was key and that manners were the greatest gift. So, he stayed and urged the little girl to speak with a tilt of his head; wondering all the while whether he would pick up Orwell again today.

Without waiting for her to reply, Theo snapped his book shut and folded it under his arm. He tossed the little girl another throwaway look before walking off, mentally shivering as he thought about the damage the little girl could have done to his reputation. The very thought of being seen with that lesser lifeform was chilling.

His first year at Hogwarts was one of curiosity and wonder. This was quickly followed by a second year during which he made plenty of friends and not-so friends.

His third year was one of intense concentration, as he finalised his electives and began working towards the bright glimmer of a future. He realised that the third year was integral in preparation for the O.W.L. exams at the end of fifth year, and therefore wholeheartedly threw himself into his studies.

The fourth year passed in a very similar manner- rendered slightly askew by new hormones and a surprise growth spurt; and an awareness to girls that he’d never been completely sure of. Now that the time has come for his fifth year, and the O.W.L. exams at the end- Theo simply wishes to leave all his problems behind him and focus on his studies.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request: Ravenclaw/Slytherin

Personality: Theo possesses superior intellect and an unfortunate lack in maturity, so he tends to wander around the castle like he’s got a stick firmly lodged up his backside. He looks down his nose at any and everyone, and acts like the kind of person who believes himself to be inherently superior because his IQ topped out at an impressive 183. As such, he always believes himself to hold the moral high ground- in any situation.

Theo is also complete and utter realist. He’s painfully rational and, frankly, a bit of a fun sponge. He’s got no time for frivolity or games- not when he has to procure the best grades possible. He prefers books and instruments and dusky classrooms to physical exercise and the outdoors; he despises Quidditch in all its forms. His future is strict and regimented, and leaves very little room for improvisation. He could well do with a bit of ‘loosening’ up- but God knows how well that will go. The nature of his life thus far has ensured that he’s rather self-assured and quite egotistical- seeing as he’s never before had to care for a sibling, or a pet.

What Theo does possess, however, is an infinite reserve of patience- and a capability to be kind rather than cold. He is fiercely passionate about practical and theoretical magic in all its forms, and is more than willing to pass on his knowledge to students that are willing to learn it. In such a fashion- one can see Theo’s haughty facade melt away and be replaced by something far warmer and far more caring.

Theo’s blood status is to be disputed. His mother is a squib, though there is a definite presence of magic in the bloodline. The unknown blood status of Theo’s father is another factor to bear in mind- though Danielle cannot remember exactly the details of the man she slept with that night. As a result, Theo is rather accepting of all blood statuses, and will believe himself to be superior simply on the basis of his intelligence alone.

Appearance: Theo’s looks are rather average for a boy his age, something he grudgingly admits to. He’s tanned, a tone that deepens in the summer, with an addition of small moles and sunspots along his arms. His eyes are chocolate brown, complementing mousy brown hair that has been styled into a neat combover. Theo is built thin and slender, standing at 5’9” with neither a lot of muscle or fat- perfectly average.

Of course, puberty brings the onset of pimples, but Theo is lucky to not suffer from acne and only ever wrestles with some pimples every now and then. He’s also farsighted, which dictates that he wear reading glasses whenever he’s doing schoolwork.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Sample Roleplay ii

Theo was having an absolute whale of a time.

Not.

He was just setting his gardening tools away after digging up some foxgloves to use for a couple of potions he’d been perfecting (pompion potions were always rather difficult)- when a shout from someone outside shattered one of the glass panes of the greenhouse, spooking him five feet into the air and subsequently hitting his head on an overhanging light.

Great.

To make matters worse, he’d dropped his gardening shears on his beautiful batch of foxgloves, squeezing all the juice from the petals and rendering the flowers useless; which meant that he had to grow them from scratch. Again.

Theo poked his head out of the greenhouse to yell at whoever had shattered his perfect bubble of peace, only to find a boy messily wiping his nose on his sleeve. Theo stared at the boy and the boy stared at Theo.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Theo looked at the mussed-up garden bed at the boy’s feet. “It’s not polite to mess up other students’ garden beds- but here we are,” He said drily, arching an eyebrow and lifting his chin, waiting for the boy to respond. He was hardly worth Theo’s time, anyways.
