Application for Hogwarts School

Biography: Dhalia was born to a Middle-class family. Her father, Robert, was a dentist, and her mother worked as a secretary at a local solicitor's office for the past couple years. Even though her mother didn't stay at home all day, Dhalia couldn't ever remember their house not being spotless. Her mother was fastidious like that. Dhalia always kept her room clean, knowing she would be in for it if her mother ever saw it out of sorts. Though Dhalia kept her nose to the grindstone at school and made good marks, she couldn't help but feel that she was different from the other kids. She would often catch herself staring out the window, daydreaming of far off places. She would get teased about nearly everything, from the cut of her hair to the color of her shirt that day. Often she would hide, only to discover that whatever she had been being teased about had changed somehow. She could never really explain what was going on, and the other kids started calling her weird for changing her shirt or the style of her glasses. Though her hair suddenly being longer after her mum had given her a bowl cut usually earned her a smart bottom once she got home. It wasn't until someone came to explain to her parents about a special school for her the Summer before she turned 11, that the odd changes started to make sense.

Personality:
Dhalia is a bit withdrawn at times. She's been teased so much by her peers that now she takes a while to warm up to people. She can have moments where she gets really anxious, especially in new situations or around groups of people she doesn't know. She can easily get caught up in the emotion of an event, though, so she's more likely to be happy and warm during celebrations. She fears rejection and being left entirely alone above all else. There is a constant nagging fear in the back of her mind that people just interact with her because she's in their general proximity and they are just trying to be polite, rather than actually wanting to talk to her. The last thing she wants to be is a burden to anyone around her, so it is a mark of pride to her to be considered low-maintenance. She loves to read, and enjoys most creative endeavors, though she doesn't feel like she is very good at much of anything. Despite this, she is optimistic. She believes that, no matter what she faces, it will usually work out for the better.

Appearance:
Dhalia is a bit short for her age, and isn't likely to be over 5'3" by the time she's done growing. At current she stands at 4' 9 1/2". She has hazel eyes, and dark brown hair. She hates her hair, which her mother routinely cuts around a large wooden mixing bowl. She's been teased so much about her hair cut, that she's accidently made it all disappear once or twice by wishing so hard that she could just shave it all off.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."




"Hmmm?" Dhalia blinked as the boy came into focus. She hadn't even noticed he was there before he sneezed, and it had made her jump with a small squeak. It wasn't that she was easily scared, she had just been watching a honey bee as it buzzed from one flower to the next, being the awesome little pollinator that it was.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't actually staring at you." She began to explain. He was a lot bigger than she was, though, and he seemed really angry. She lowered her head, her eyes focusing on the ground right in front of her so that she wouldn't accidently look at anyone else. "I was watching a bee and...."

At the edge of her vision she caught some sort of movement, although she was a little afraid that it might have been the boy lashing out, she look at what had moved anyway.

"Is that your rat?" She didn't know if it was or not. Truthfully, she didn't even know if he was really looking for a rat, or just wanted to smell the roses and had discovered just now that he was allergic.
