Alumni of Koldovstoretz School

Strength and weaknesses (details please):

In terms of magical skill Clementine is perfectly adequate, in her opinion, at most branches of magic, with a little more expertise in medical charms than other areas due to her years of travel nursing. However, she likes to challenge herself and therefore often looks to expand her skills and knowledge in all areas.

Beyond magic alone, Clementine’s real strength is remaining calm and critically thinking when under pressure. It is a skill she has developed slowly, but with great strength, and while she doesn’t show any outward level of pride in the skillset, she does know that it will hold true for most situations.

Her weaknesses are often social in nature. Clementine has little patience for small or idle talk, will often speak with the honesty of what is on her mind and struggles to find genuine connection with other people. This, along with many of her more Russian raised traits, can raise the risk of coming across cold and apathetic to most people.

Physical description:

Clementine is still considered to be well in the prime of her life. She is a small witch, both short and thin, although has a lithe strength where needed. Born to a Russian mother and an English father, most of her features - pale skin, dark hair and eyes, even the unimpressed turn to the corner of her lips come from her mother’s line. Clementine’s high cheekbones are a picture of her maternal grandmother.

From the Lovell side of her family she inherited her lack of height, long and slender fingers, and the long dark lashes that also seem to grace all of her muggle half siblings.

She is often seen wearing neutral colours, black skirts with white blouses, loose enough for movement but synched to give herself some shape. Clementine’s dark hair grows fast, and she will often cut it short on a whim, leaving it to curl at the top of her shoulders, just long enough to tie back if she was working, or concentrating.

Personality (nice, rude, funny etc. Paragraph please.):

Clementine can often come across as cold. She has a tendency to get to the point in a conversation, and the way she chooses to get that point across can be quite abrupt. Sarcasm and many forms of humour will go straight over her head, and will incur a level of disdain if she manages to catch on. On the rare occasion that she tries to crack a joke, they will often be flat and missing a correct punch line, that is, if they even make sense. It can be difficult to make Clem Petrova laugh.

She is not nurturing in nature, and has no particular feelings either way about children and teenagers but Clementine has a sharp underlying intelligence, and a peculiar interest in both gory and dangerous things. Often scheduling herself to work on the night of a full moon, or particularly busy holidays for emergencies for the fascination of what damage she might see. She appreciates intelligence and drive in others. If you spark her interest enough, Clem may debate a topic with you for hours. It may take some time to convince her that she is wrong, should that occur.

Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?:

Often finding herself restless and not staying in any particular place for too long, whether it be a shift in work assignment or an entire change in location by moving to a new country, Clementine Petrova is now looking for a way to challenge herself. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry appeals to her as a place where not only her limits could be tested but where she might find exposure to keen minds and sharper tongues.

While she has no particular desire to shape the students of the school into better people, she does think that many of the inhabitants of the world fail to meet the basic critical thinking skills to survive an emergency or the world around them as they grow up. Never one to brag, Clementine would not state that she might have a profound influence on anyone she taught. Although she confesses to having had profound mentors of her own throughout her twenty five years of life. However, the witch does believe that she can bring something to a classroom that might offer them room for extraordinary development.

Biography (500 words minimum. There is never such a thing as too much.):

Clementine Nadiya Lovell Petrova was raised as the daughter of divorcees, and lived between the home of her Russian mother in St Petersburg, and her father's residence in England. Neither of her parents were particularly attentive or nurturing people when it came to Clementine, her mother was a healer, who specialised in neurological damage and sellwork. Often the woman was busy, and found herself with little time to spend with her daughter. The time they did spend together was often filled with harsh reprimand and general disappointment. A workaholic who is obsessed with the status of her career, Taya Viktorova was distracted for long periods of her daughter's life, often shipping her off to the United Kingdom for months on end under the guise of bonding with her ex-husband, but more pointedly unwilling to indulge herself with the whim of raising a child she had only half wanted in the first place. As every successful woman must have a protégé or heir.

Peter Adrian Lovell, in turn, was a muggle man who had been introduced to the world of magic by his first wife, but as their marriage crumbled before his daughters second year of life he decided that magic was nothing more than pure evil. He turned his back on the concept of magic altogether, admitting it’s existence only in the means of vilifying it completely. He returned to England, where he found a calling and new life as the pastor for a church in a small country town. Peter remarried quickly, and went on to produce a small, preferred family of his own. He and his second wife had two sons and a daughter, each of them, much to the man’s relief, magic free.

He allowed his eldest daughter home, when she was sent to him, out of a belief that it would make him bad in the eyes of his God to disown the girl born as his mothers namesake, completely. Yet Clementine never quite found the Lovell household a welcoming place, she was forbidden to speak of magic, and over the years, forced to lie about larger and larger aspects of her life to keep her half-siblings in the dark to any wonders or potential positives of being a witch. Where her father sat at the head of their dinner table and described witches as the demon spawn of hell sent to corrupt the world, Clementine would need to school her face into passive acceptance, unwilling to find the patience, or the courage to stand up to her father and prove the wonders of magic to her half-siblings. Instead, as the years passed she simply despised them for merely accepting his word, his beliefs on the matter of magic and witchcraft.

Her primary schooling years involved bouncing between a private magical junior school in St Petersburg, and a small public school by her father’s place. She felt like a broken piece of a jigsaw puzzle, a child who did not fit neatly into either aspect of her life. This left her with a scattered level of skill and aptitude for both the magical and mundane sides of her heritage, with not enough magical knowledge for her mother’s liking and too much for that of her father.

At age eleven, she left for Koldovstoretz, deep in the heart of Russia, spending her school years there learning and developing magical skill. She would spend the winters at the school, forcing herself into uncomfortable and risky situations only to work her way back out of them. Through the summers she was forced to return to England for the summers where she was forced to deny that entire side of herself. Often feeling torn in half, Clemintine grew to be a very blunt, awkward adult. She struggles with small talk, failing to see the point behind it and often taking very little interest in others. Often she has a tendency to be too honest, and simply speak her mind with no filter.

By the time Clementine graduated she had found two things. She followed in her mother's footsteps with an aptitude for the healing arts, so she started working in a russian magical hospital, undertaking her training in their ‘Urgent Medical Aid’ department. It was here that Clemetine learned that she could undertake normally stomach turning medical tasks without finding it phased her too much. She also realised often able to cope well under pressure and unaffected by the emotions of others, acting efficiently in an emergency and when the trauma response teams were called out into the field for horrific mass trauma.

Secondly, she found that after a lifetime of being uprooted, she could not settle into a life in one place, and still struggled to make friends. This contributed largely to her leaving Russia once she finished her medical training, to work as a travel healer. Clementine started taking only short term contracts and staying in one place only long enough to become bored or uncomfortable. She explored most of Europe and ventured deep into Asia and Oceania. Before she decided to come back to her father’s home of England, she found herself deep in brazil working in triage clinics and caving in her free time. Occasionally, Clem would stay in one place for as long as possible, to test the boundaries of her restlessness and the longest amount of time she lasted was eleven months.

Clementine has routinely undertaken contracts in England or Russia, even now still striving for the approval of her parents. Neither of which could care less. After much deliberation she is determined to try and settle somewhere, now that she has turned twenty-five, and make any sort of meaningful connection, and develop herself.

She sought a challenge, and thought this foreign school with rumours of bad lack and dangerous circumstance might be the place to find it.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
(Please respond to this in third person past tense. Do not write the other characters' reactions. Only your own.)

It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with various odds and ends, with a place of honor for the Sorting Hat, and the walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses.

In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order, for the current occupant had always despised a messy desk. It was the sign of a messy mind, and she had always favored neatness.

A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.

Along with order, Anneka valued punctuality. She was a very busy woman these days. Even during the summer, she had a number of matters to attend to. Interviewing and hiring staff was only of those matters. The newest potential member of her staff wasn't making a good impression.

She paced the room, black heels clicking against the stone floor. When the door finally opened, Anneka turned, her expression reminiscent of a Russian winter. "You are late."

Explain yourself was what her face said.

Roleplay Response:

This was Clementine Petrova’s first time inside of the gargoyle guarded, looming structure of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was most unimpressed to realise that it closely resembled a game her half-siblings had played in childhood, about a maze developed for catching mice. The hallways seemed to hold no true order, and with a groan of great effort the stairs were inclined to move from one position to another. This occurred with a shudder of stone until the dark haired little witch found herself half way up them and then finding herself facing the complete wrong side of the castle.

By the time she located Headmistress Ivankova’s office, she was sure her heels had clicked along every stair and stone within the castle. Displeasure pulled at the corners of her lips, for Celemtine knew she was late, and that was one thing she loathed to be.

Nonetheless, the witch lifted her head, shaking her hair and adjusting the sleeves of her billowy white blouse before she strode into the room. Anneka Ivankova looked at her with all the blistering cold of Moscow itself, somewhat reminiscent of that unimpressed looked to be when it was put on her mother’s face. Clementine’s own pale features smoothed out into a picture of calm, even as her stomach twisted into a knot at the reminder of her mother, a witch she was always looking so hard to please.

The witch did not apologise. It would not have been genuine and Clementine Petrova would not apologise to Anneka Ivanova for the sake of platitudes and stroking whatever ego the older witch might have. She had already lost time in her interview, she would not lose more to pretending to be someone she was not.

“Then it seems I have five less minutes to impress you with my plans for the position,” The witch stated plainly the roll of her russian accent curling on the edge of her well-dictated English words. Dark eyes cut over the Headmistress, before she cleared her throat gently. Clementine had faced her own fears often, facing this interview, she reminded herself, coud be no worse. Interviewing for the hospital was a matter of skill, a trial, this was a matter of conversation. Social niceties where she often fell short.

“Shall we begin?” The question was brisk, and the witch settled herself into the chair, straightening her posture and settling her hands into her lap. For a beat she waited, silence swirling as Clem analysed the best approach to take with the force of Russia in who ran this castle. “I believe you may like the concepts I wish to bring to your school...”
