Messages - Vera Cole

Pages: [1]

Character name: Vera Hudson Cole

Previous and/or Current Character(s) if applicable: Julia Cole, Olette Clarington-Dupont, Ren Cole

Character age: Forever 34

Character education: Hufflepuff class of '74 ('36)

Strength and weaknesses (details please): Vera is always there to be a listening ear to whoever may need it and offer advice in return. However, she can be a bit over protective of her children and stubborn at times.

Physical description: In life, Vera had fair skin, bright red hair, and blue eyes. However, now she's a transparent bluish color, but her caring, motherly expression is always there.

Personality (nice, rude, funny etc. Paragraph please.): Vera is very caring and protective of her family (and would be of her students as well). She is very much a mother hen type. However, she can be ruthless if she feels any of her little chicks are being threatened, and will make sure all her young'uns stay in line.

Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?:
Vera has decided it would be best to be a resident ghost at Hogwarts. However, she is still very motherly and helping raise kids to be better versions of themselves is something she loves to do. And if she's going to reside at Hogwarts, she'd probably be bored just floating around doing nothing.

In life, she had a great passion for art as well, though can't do much with it now. However, that doesn't mean she can't share her passion, and live vicariously through other young artists. She hopes to also be approachable as a teacher to offer assistance or guidance to students with any difficulties they may have, in or out of the classroom.

Biography (500 words minimum. There is never such a thing as too much.):
Vera was born October 16, 1955 to Anthony Hudson and Ellen Pearce. She came from a very Catholic family, and was the third of seven children. Her father was in the military and moved around, and when Vera was 9, they moved to France. As Vera grew older and received her Beauxbatons letter, her parents disapproved, but Vera’s maternal grandfather convinced her parents she should go, revealing that his sister had also been a witch.

Vera spent her first two years of magic school at Beauxbatons, until they moved back to England when Vera was thirteen, sending her to Hogwarts. There she was sorted into Hufflepuff, and through her adventurous nature made many friends of all houses. She often worked in the Infirmary and also was a Beater in Quidditch for a couple of years. She participated in Dueling Club as well, and eventually became a Hufflepuff prefect.

After many lost loves, Vera met a Gryffindor around her 5th or 6th year, Asher Cole. He was a year ahead of her and graduated to become an Auror. During her 7th year, he proposed and she said yes. During this year, she made plans with her younger sister, Rosemary, to meet for coffee and discuss wedding plans. Vera was closest with Rosemary of her siblings, and she was going to be her maid of honor. However, once at the coffee shop, there was an explosion. Vera made it out, but Rosemary didn’t.

After Vera graduated, she became a nurse. She and Asher got married, and shortly afterwards was the Time Warp. At first, it was very upsetting to Vera, being years behind the rest of her muggle family, but as time went on, the memories of the event faded. To her knowledge, her father died in war, and her siblings and mother died in other acts of war.

About a year after the time warp, Vera gave birth to her first daughter, Julia. When Julia was about two, the family moved out of muggle London and into the magical community to try to escape the war. Vera would try to teach Julia about the muggle world, but it was difficult. Vera feared losing what little family she had left and never let Julia go too far from her sight.

About 2 years after leaving the muggle world, Vera had another daughter, Miranda. When the British Force happened, Vera didn’t know where else to turn. It suddenly wasn’t safe anywhere. She homeschooled Julia and Miranda and didn’t let them participate in any activities outside the home. Due to this, the two girls became socially inept. When Julia’s Hogwarts letter came in, Vera was terrified, but Asher reassured her that Julia would be safe at Hogwarts. Vera reluctantly agreed with Asher that Julia needs to learn how to properly use magic, and Asher convinced Vera to try to get out more herself and apply to St. Mungo’s.

Vera has become a bit more lax as she's gotten older and the war has faded. In addition to Julia and Miranda, she also had a son, Ren, another daughter, Dahlia, and one final daughter, Mara. Her pregnancy with Mara was difficult, and she wound up dying giving birth. However, since she has spent most of her adult life fearing her family being separated, or her kids losing a parent like she had, she became a ghost.

Since becoming a ghost a year ago, she has stayed at home to help her family adjust, and make sure her newborn was getting proper care. But it's been heartbreaking to not be able to hold her baby, or hug her toddler without the small girl crying because 'Mommy's cold'. Her smaller children of course don't understand why, so she decided the best course of action for her was to watch over her children at Hogwarts. So she plans to go with Miranda in the fall and reside there.

It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with various odds and ends, with a place of honor for the Sorting Hat, and the walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses.

In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order, for the current occupant had always despised a messy desk. It was the sign of a messy mind, and she had always favored neatness.

A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.

Along with order, Anneka valued punctuality. She was a very busy woman these days. Even during the summer, she had a number of matters to attend to. Interviewing and hiring staff was only of those matters. The newest potential member of her staff wasn't making a good impression.

She paced the room, black heels clicking against the stone floor. When the door finally opened, Anneka turned, her expression reminiscent of a Russian winter. "You are late."

Explain yourself was what her face said.

Roleplay Response:
It had been about 17 years since Vera had been on the Hogwarts grounds. And here she was, once more. She had always figured if she was going to teach at Hogwarts, she’d be the Head Nurse, or teach Charms. But now she was limited. She couldn’t cast spells anymore. To be fair, she couldn’t paint either, but she’d find a way around it.

She made her way through the hallways. No one gave her any odd looks, and she passed a few other ghosts on the way. She just remembered the ghosts back during her days being rather boring. And now she’d be around students who probably found her boring as well.

Was she sure she wanted to do this? Be away from her babies? But being near them broke her heart. The tears in her toddler’s eyes because Mommy couldn’t pick her up. And her baby, never knowing the warmth of her mother. No, this was for the best. Asher was a good father and would be there to cuddle the younger ones. She’d be there to guide the older ones through their school years.

Finally she reached the Headmaster’s Office. She had never been in there before. She floated outside the door and raised her hand to knock, but realized it was pointless. But it’d be rude to just float in, right?

She floated there for a bit, trying to decide the best course of action, when a passerby noticed her and opened the door. “Erm, thanks…” Vera responded to the man. Perhaps it was common for other ghosts as well.

As she entered the room, Anneka looked impatient. ”You are late.”

She didn’t look terribly happy with her. In her years at the school, she had never dealt with her terribly much, as she had been the Slytherin Head of House. But she knew she had become Headmistress only a few years after she had graduated school.

“Oh, I didn’t realize! Sorry, no watches.” Vera held up her arms to show. She hadn’t had a need to keep up with time for the past year, and wasn’t used to it. “I’ll promise I’ll work on it, but let’s not waste any more time, shall we?”

In addition to posting a completed application in this forum, we also ask that you submit a PM to Anneka Ivanova with details of your class and with the lesson plans for that class (include at least a minimum of 4 lessons). Also, please be sure to check the Available Positions thread located in this forum to make sure the class you want is available before applying.

Ack, just realized I posted using the wrong account and can't figure out how to delete the post

So, I want to bring Vera back (haven't played her in 4 years). She was a student who graduated then went to elsewhere, but I no longer have access to Elsewhere. Do I need to re-apply in the sorting hat?
