Hometown: Falmouth, Cornwall

Bloodline: Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Biography:
If you are applying to be a first, second, or third year, your biography must be at least one hundred words long.
If you are applying to be a fourth year or above, your biography must be at least three hundred words long.

Andrew's mother is a Healer and his father is a chaser for the Falmouth Falcons Quidditch reserve team.  His parents call him their "little Christmas miracle," though he doesn't understand; he was born in the middle of September after all.

Andrew has always been a curious boy, trying to figure out how everything works.  Though he doesn't remember the incident, his parents love recounting the story of his seventh birthday where they got him his first real broom, a Cleansweep Five ("To be used only when one of us are with you," they told him).  After Andrew took all his new toys up to his room, his father decided to invite Andrew on his first real broomstick ride, only to find, upon entering Andrew's bedroom, that Andrew was in a mess of twigs, examining the runes carved on the now bare broom handle.  His father was understandable upset and let his mother lecture him, for what he could only assume was the hundredth time, that he needed to ask them before taking things apart.

In the end, there was only so much he could gather about how the broom worked, without a wand or any real knowledge of how charms worked.  His favorite birthday gift ever is the Potions Experiment Lab ("Safe, Thrilling Adventures in Potioneering!" reads the box) from his aunt on his seventh birthday.  The instruction booklet is full of notes and many of the small glass bottles of ingredients are near empty.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Ravenclaw

Personality:
Tell us a bit about your character’s personality (likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) What are they like on a good day versus a bad one? Is your character particularly cheerful? Do they hate sunlight?

Andrew loves to take things apart, see what makes them work, and then put them back together again (though he isn't very good at that last bit).  His father is always trying to get him into quidditch, but Andrew has never had much interest in the sport.  Andrew has a generally optimistic disposition.  While not exactly anti-social, Andrew does often prefer to spend time on his latest pet project rather than attend a party.

Appearance:
Briefly describe your character's appearance (hair color, build, stature, etc.) What effect does it have on their personality? For example, does the shy Ravenclaw girl secretly dye her hair black because she hates her natural blonde? Does the curly-haired Gryffindor use charms to hide his freckles?

Andrew has straight dark brown hair he wears in a caesar cut.  He is just below average height at 4' 7".

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Andrew had decided to go exploring.  Though he wasn't the adventurous type, he had gotten lost one too many times on his way to class.  Lost, just like he was now.  How was he supposed to learn the hallways of the castle if he didn't even know where he currently was?

The environment was damp, so Andrew reasoned he was probably underground.  There was also a smell that reminded him of when he accidently mixed eel eyes and rat spleens from his Potions Experimentation Lab kit.  His parents had to cast air freshener charms for days after that incident.

Andrew remembered some advice an older Ravenclaw had given him earlier, "If you're ever lost, just ask a portrait.  They know the castle better than anyone."  Andrew looked around the corridor for any portraits.  There were a couple canvas backdrops, but it seemed like their occupants had gone visiting elsewhere in the castle.

Andrew began absent-mindedly thwacking his wand against his pants, while he pondered what to do.  The common advice if you were lost was to stay put, but Andrew figured that was more for if you were lost in the woods or people were looking for you.  He didn't plan to stay here until some hapless student came along.

Suddenly a voice rang out in the corridor, though it was too faint for Andrew to make it out.  But then, much clearer, was "Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

"No," he replied, looking around for the source of the voice, "Who is Emma Birch?  I'm just a lost first year."
